My congratulations to the whole team on the conclusion of a truly epic journey. I remember when in April 2011, the whole IXEG team was in Frankfurt to fly the Lufthansa Full Flight Sim and they came over for dinner afterwards. Jörg (of vasFMC fame) and me treated the IXEG team to german bread and sausages, french cheese and asparagus salad. It was an unforgettable dinner full of tech and plane talk, and of course bragging about what our add-ons can do. That was roughly one month before the CRJ first came out. At that dinner table, they projected the IXEG 737 to be released "soon after the CRJ". Little did they know what lay ahead of them. So here we are, five years later, finally about to put the chocks under the wheels after an epic long-haul flight. Well done, guys, and congratulations on pulling this off. Philipp15 points

I have updated the list in post no. 1 of this thread to todays status. While mostly removing things, I had to add that the PROGRESS page didn´t quite make it into 1.0. I also considered adding: a totally bug-free experience with no soft-crashes as something that will NOT be in 1.0. While we worked hard to find as many faults as possible, we are fully prepared to receive a flurry of reports (both real and due to lack of understanding) over the next few days. We will be hear to listen, help, catalogue and fix them - and it is our goal to get an update to fix any critical problems to you VERY swiftly. Happy landings, everyone, Jan9 points

75 $ ??? Really ? I allready told my girlfriend i´d be spending 100€ for an Virtual Airplane on Saturday to piss her off now its just 66€ ?? .. Man she buys shoes for 200€ every month and now i wanted to at least challenge her. srsly guys, you are great! i think that is a VERY fair price! Cant wait anymore!9 points

for grins, I couldn't help but wonder if other "big releases" deal with such issues.....so out of curiosity, I compiled a list of all the update items for PMDGs NGX since its release.....TEN pages long!...with one as recently as a year ago...ish. and the first patch repaired several CTD issues. We have defintiiely NOT seen an x-plane crash in I don't even know how long. Oh well, we keep improving, one foot in front, that's how we got here in the first place. Back to work for me! -tkyler8 points

Captains, As is the usual tradition here, we now have our official preview video ready for you to view. As per usual, a special thanks goes to @redpiper1. There's not much to say here, other than we hope you enjoy! She'll be all yours soon.4 points

I'm late to the party as usual! I've got countless aircraft that I don't fly because they have one or two "killer" omissions. I thought it would be ok to work around them but in reality it just really ****** me off. It almost made me give up flight simming altogether. I thank you for your honest approach and I see things on your list already crossed off. I'm going to wait till people have actually flown the plane before I buy it (probably :-) but reading between the lines I don't doubt your commitment and passion. Best of luck with the release and try not to kill the internet on saturday!! Jim Harris (grizzly old cynical flight simmer)4 points

do as i do guys... fly your airplanes you have in the hangar, I think you won't touch 'em for a while after Saturday.. it will keep you from watching the clock or calling up X-aviation.com every five min. that's what i do ;-)4 points

Having engineered 737,s for 37+ years and the 300 for about 15 all I can say is this looks outstanding, Simply the best? we all hope so.4 points

Updated September 2023, Version 1.5 Hi everyone. While it seems to be the economically "smart" thing to do to NOT talk about the shortcomings of your product (and then sometimes to just ignore the complaints after you cash in the money), we are trying to run things a bit differently here at IXEG. I would therefore like to share a list of things that will NOT be in version 1.5, and also give a little background of why, and wether we are planning to add it later. I will try to make this list as encompassing as possible, if I forget something, please don´t sue me! I will add/remove from this list as warranted. Aircraft visual 3D model Ancilliary vehicles (catering, fuel truck, loading crew) - this is now accomplished by using the XP11 native ground vehicles, the docking locations for those are correctly added in planemaker. Cockpit keypad entry mechanism Omitted due to security reasons. Deployable emergency slides.Omitted due to time constraints, planning to add later. Deploying oxygen masks. Omitted due to time constraints, planning to add later. Sound effects/visual model for passengers and their (assumed) behaviour. Too complex a simulation off it´s own, most likely won´t be added for fear of having something repetitive or cheesy. Cabin crew voice interaction. You can communicate via menues that are invoked by pressing the cabin call button, though. FMS Pilot entered HOLDS. While we have database-inherent holds (like at the end of a missed approach), we won´t feature the HOLD page where you could enter all sorts of HOLDS. Omitted due to time constraints, definitely planning to add later. RTA feature. Omitted due to time constraints, planning to add later, but low priority. OFFSET feature. Omitted due to time constraints, planning to add later, but low priority. ABEAM points (after shortcutting route, for example). Omitted due to time constraints, definitely planning to add later. You CAN enter stuff in the FIX page, and "find" a PBD point that way (enter a fix, enter a radial and a distance to see the green radial and distance-circle) Entering descent wind forecast (normal wind entry on PERF INIT page possible). Display of "RTE DATA" on EHSI/map, i.e. showing ETA and restrictions next to waypoint. You can see that on the LEGS page, for now. Omitted due to time constraints, definitely planning to add later. Automatic entry of performance data (weight, etc.). We might include that for the "ready to fly" scenario, not decided yet. For now it must be entered manually, if FMS performance assistance is desired (not mandatory). Fully working PROGRESS page - we started to code it, but much of the things shown are placeholders. We expect this to be one of the first things we will add soon after release. Full VNAV functionality for descents with speed and/or altitude restrictions. The FMS gets confused by changing the cruising altitude while enroute and multiple descent restrictions and restrictions of a certain type. Basic unrestricted descents work, though. GUI Dedicated flight-planning software. We feel that this is not necessarily within the scope of our add-on. We model the plane like you get it after delivery from Seattle (+ free lifetime fuel!). There are plenty of flight-planning solutions out there, we include a basic "ballpark" fuel calculator. Complex and visually appealing load+trim software. We feel that clicking empty seats to fill them and pulling sliders to load cargo is fun for a few times - but really all you get is a weight and a center of gravity. And you might just as well set those directly in the gui. We have simple sliders and click-buttons for that (or you can use the default X-Plane menus). No way to output any CDU, EADI or EHSI onto an external device like iPad or such. Would like to have that (especially for cockpit builders), though. Exception: it is possible to use AirFMC, available at the Apple App Store. No pop-out 2D displays of flight instruments/CDU/EFIS to make reading or entering stuff easier, no hiding of yoke to not obscure view. We feel that the ergonomics (or lack of) an airliner cockpit is an important part of the experience, so we don´t want to "help" too much. We have "preview pop-ups" of the EHSI when making changes on the EFIS control panel to help you see if you have the right setup. Other systems Wxr radar returns can only be displayed on the left EHSI/map. Omitted due to time constraints, definitely planning to add later. Terrain colour display can only be shown on the left EHSI(map. Omitted due to time constraints, definitely planning to add later. Operating circuit breaker (CB). We decided that most CBs will never be moved in normal operation. We will add moveable CBs with the yellow collar later (to be used in abnormal situations), and possibly some others as well (standby altimeter vibrator!). Automatic startup/shutdown "macros". Won´t add that. This plane is about realistic operation (it´s not hard!). If not desired, just select "ready to fly" or "turnaround-state". IRS using "false" position. It is not possible to deliberately enter a "false" position and have the IRS align to that. The entry will be rejected unless reasonably close to the real position. In the real plane the GPS would also "correct" your wrong entry (if close enough) or warn you. A position far from the old "shutdown" position would be rejected once. A wrong latitude would be detected during the alignment process...It would be a lot of coding effort to maintain a "wrong" position with the corresponding effects (map-shift, etc.) A dedicated way to fly the same plane together in multiplayer. Note that SmartCopilot has made great progress in making our plane flyable with a crew of 2, and while not perfect yet, it is working very well, going by user reports: http://forums.x-pilot.com/forums/topic/9714-smartcopilot-first-attempt/?page=1 Volume control for radios/navaid ident checking. We have implemented a better volume (more loud), but it can not be adjusted yet. We are trying to be as upfront about the shortcomings of our model as possible. I have myself bought many aircraft for flight-simulations boasting great things, only to be disappointed. I want to avoid that for everyone, so if you find a "must have" feature on this list, I encourage you to hold off on purchase until we added your feature in a later patch. I could make a feature list of things we have that would take you hours to read, but instead you can assume that our plane can do everything that the real one does, except for the things noted above. Cheers, Jan2 points

Is it safe to buy it yet as you can add to basket, but haven't clicked checkout yet! $75 is a bit more than I thought it was going to be, but still worth it. http://www.x-aviation.com/catalog/product_info.php/take-command-ixeg-737-classic-p-122?osCsid=812f5840cd9c5c7b54be6846b2af3221 Never mind, I just read the bottom of the shopping cart page!!2 points

just counting the number of pair of shoes she has (in action, on standby, in case....) yup... just thinking about above post again, don't give 'em ideas to increase prices, shoe makers won't reduce them that's for sure and women's shoe addiction is also sth you cannot control2 points

1. for fuel trip planning, you look at the aircraft charts (or internet planning tools) for the fuel burnt per hour according your flight parameters (weight, pressure altitude, etc.), you do some basic maths as per your trip distance +including reserves, alternate, etc and you get the total. 2. during flight, you look at fuel flow consumption display, you do the maths vs remaining distance/time and you know your fuel. note: no matter fmcs does provide this information, pilots are required to do their thing to cross check. You better know how to do it, it is rewarding to have as much knowledge as possible. If it is not on Saturday, i presume it will be available on a few weeks so no big deal.2 points

You know what....I have to confess. I can't remember the version the Saab guys use. I did quite a bit of work on the sound engine for the 737 and may have added in the replay functionality during 737 development...and of course have had zero time to back-port it to the Saab team. ...after 6 years, I can't remember when I did anything...that at my advancing age. -tkyler2 points

ILS does not mean the plane has autoland capability. The only thing the ILS gives you is lateral and vertical guidance. Or else the 172 Skyhawk has autoland capability because it can do ILS approaches too....1 point

Heya sundog, It's great to know i haven't totally lost it thus far then lol Still amazing for me, i love eye-candy and realism effects in any sim, and these clouds just are utterly astounding, i tried about every cloud variation of the org, massive fps drops, whereas smp 3 (march i got it at v3) not only fills my fov with the fluffy critters my fps doesn't suffer unless it's wall to wall and then it's simple enough to load a lower cloud radius config i've saved Not to mention the fps is better than stock clouds ! Got off to a rocky noob start, but man, i love the clouds Thanks Tony1 point

initially got your statement wrong I think: you give 130 bucks to your wife, she disappears and leaves you and the new baby alone for the weekend. thinking about it, this sounds like the thing to do, though it will probably cost more if we add the kids on top1 point
-
Great pricing. I had told my wife to expect $100-130 to disappear this weekend :). When I wake up tomorrow morning, it'll be an instant buy.1 point
-
The price is spot on in my opinion. It can't be lower that that of e.g. a FF 767, but it also shouldn't be much higher when you want to attract people not only to the 733, but also to X-Plane. Will be an instant purchase for me, although I probably won't find the time for a full flight until May or June.1 point

No RAAS atm. Unsure if we'll add it as it is an "add on" for the most part. It did cross my mind though. When I wake up with nothing else of higher priority on my plate, I might do it as an option, I think it would be cool myself. -tkyler1 point

As someone who uses the headshake plugin, I really like that IXEG implemented their own version of the click and drag. Using the scroll wheel can sometimes be annoying while trying to decend or going through turbulence. I always end up zooming in way too far lol. I can't wait to try the click and drag system on the plane1 point

I was rewatching the IXEG's very first video on youtube and this comment made me chuckle: "This is going to be crazy! What graphics card would you recomment? 512MB" Just shows how long we've been waiting . I myself remember being very disappointed when they announced that it wouldn't be available for XPL 9. Funny, nobody uses it anymore now. And BTW IXEG, it's my birthday next week so I expect something really nice from you guys, you know that I only have one wish .1 point
-
I said that many times to ppl on Youtube complaigning. I think your implemented system looks absolutely perfect. And i am finding it very annoying to scroll all the time in other airplanes so i turned it off in all of them. if you´re climbing from 3000 feet to FL 300 or what ever, it takes for ever to dail that in and almost hurts the finger. I am very happy with your System.1 point

From my discussions with Ben Supnik; - X-Plane may use Vulkan some day. - IF it ever does, it will setup an managed OpenGL environment so that plugins will continue to work as they always have. - Various flavours of OpenGL and probably Vulkan are available now to plugins if you can be bothered to do all the system calls to "spin one up". We get a default OpenGL context to play in that supports almost everything you'd ever want to do with X-Plane so I'm really not sure if anyone bothers with a custom context. Vulkan isn't some magic bullet, if anything it represents a massive hurdle in the way of small development teams to adapt to. It basically throws out all the convenience of a driver for the sake of ultimate speed, if you want it and need it. Epic needs it. They build Unreal Engine which is mind blowing in capability. Truly cutting edge. How many small teams do you really want doing all the micro management of the GPU state? Seriously; if nVidia and AMD have so much trouble publishing high performance bug free drivers for known systems like OpenGL that have been around for twenty-four-years how many average developers do you think have any hope of coming anywhere near those kind of performance figures? I see Vulkan as a massive step forward for things like VR where latency is nauseating. For us, working with X-Plane, we're far better using tools off the shelf with known limits, APIs, demos and documentation. No ones even come close to the possibilities of OpenGL yet. Just the idea of "Vulkanizing" something represents such a massive amount of GPU micro-management that I haven't even looked at the specs or docs. It will be some years before there's any need. I'm still trying to teach artists about VBO's and Shaders. Big teams, on big name games, all work in the same space. They can sit down in pairs, shoulder to shoulder and polish things out like you wouldn't believe. Our teams? We're peppered all over the planet, working as lone individuals most of the time. There are various effects in our products, shipping and otherwise, that utilise various mixtures of primitive OpenGL and OBJ8 hackery to work through the limits of X-Plane, the SDK, alpha bugs, FPS limits, customer hardware, etc. We have plenty of work cut out for us moving them into "modern GL". @Tom; you've seen some very small snippets of the stuff I've been working with, rain shaders and so forth. I think you'll be amused with some of the things we unveil in future. There's a lot we don't show. I think the IXEG 737 will be a transformative product for X-Planes future, in more ways than one.1 point

Hardware is guaranteed to get faster. People are guaranteed to get slower. It's not fair to expect that ancient hardware is specially catered for on a multi year project. Having said that; hundreds of hours have been poured into Gizmo in the last year or so to make it perform as fast as possible and more time will be invested in the 737 to ensure that your modern hardware is utilised where and when we can. It's more prudent and beneficial for all our customers to focus on making any product run as well as we can on modern and future hardware than it is to spend time making it run on ancient hardware that is, relatively speaking, the cheapest part of the development chain and the only one certain to be thrown away eventually. This becomes more and more important as we start moving into the age of VR. Modern VR latency requirements and old legacy hardware support are simply mutually exclusive options. I don't think there are any current X-Plane payware products truly technically suitable for use in a VR sim at every level. It's very easy and very tempting to use legacy GL features to provide features that users want today while getting us into a bit of technical debt for features people are going to want tomorrow. (200 fps, VR immersion, full use of modern GPU's etc. etc.) The sanest course is to set the GPU resource usage as high as possible because by the time your product is eventually released the hardware will be there, or be there shortly. ...a bit of a rant, but please, over five years plus, it's impossible to set a legacy hardware target. I think everyone will be able to find a happy medium. It's an experienced team building the product on a varied set of hardware.1 point
