I'm campaigning for this to Laminar.....the ability to exclude light sources from reflective surfaces...but as of this moment, I don't believe we can. I'll squeeze in a quick report here also. Just completed all the interior cabin texturing....at least 99.5% of it....and now I'm working on the lighting for the rear galley. Lighting for cabin/front galley already done. Next week some time I'll begin the final punchlist items list and we'll start looking to wrap things up to package for release...that's not an overnight step, lots of checks have to be made, but we're definitely coming to the end of this V12 port + process. I'm going to start calling this the "V12 compatibility patch + (plus)"....becuase its exactly that. A port of the existing V11 functionality to V12, PLUS a few extra 3D stuffs thrown in. I want to make sure people understand this isn't some "V2" with all new 3D throughout, revised FMS/VNAV etc.....that work comes after this release...this is to get folks flying the 733 in V12. Here's a update screenshot of the new cabin/rear galley....the works that's been going on the last 4 weeks. -tkyler2 points

Boeing 737-300 American Airlines it really is a beautiful aircraft I remember flying from DR to curacao, (dont ask what airline it was, cause i was a kid, been too long. all i remember was the plane) ,monthly from santo domingo to curacao with my grandparents alot, this was back in the 90s, it was either, and a 727 and or a 737-200, always those 3 aircrafts1 point

Thanks for your opinion Stu. It seems obvious to me that a million users of X-Plane 12 at $60 can easily support 25 motivated core programmers at Laminar. They don't have Microsoft overhead nor have they given the reigns to a third party. They will also commit to XP12 for as long as it takes, not promise 10 years and rescind after 3, with a sloppy and buggy product which will cost another $120 bucks... Modus Operandi comes to mind!1 point

You're more than the MVP here sir. Thanks for replying and the feedback. Upgrade on Day 0 purchase for sure.1 point

Really beautiful, but I'm afraid of FPS in the new version. I loved the 733 in v. XP11 for its excellent performance (FPS) and smooth simulation ;-)1 point

Looks amazing, I will be posting on FB and other forums to motivate people into it, wish you get a tons of order and keep as much motivated as possible on this... thank y'all so much to bring this all the way to XP12, more than happy to pay for this patch and looking forward to buy different versions like 400/500/F if that still a thing.1 point

Depending on the day, sometimes all of the above. He just likes to aggravate people. Debating/Gaslighting is a hobby of his it seems. He's a programmer of some third party freeware projects, but the significance about stops there.1 point

No closed beta, and no plans to call it an open beta at this time. While its been a lot of work porting things over, its been more about calibration of the flight model, flight testing and accomodating some new datarefs than a massive overhaul of the entirety of the system. We'll be on 'rapid standby' after release to address obvious issues though and get critical patches out quickly. -tkyler1 point

Well the MU-2 detour work didn't help.....but beyond that, in the world of custom engineering / design work, there are unknowns in the process. Perhaps the results we are able to get out of x-plane might not be what we want and we have to backtrack and try different techniques, or we make conscious choices to implement things we didn't plan on implementing initially. May be the software we use is giving us fits (*cough Substance Painter). In estimating efforts for stuff like this, I like to call such targets, "personal carrots" we dangle in front of our own faces to keep us moving and motivated. I can reel off a large list of custom efforts that went well beyond time and cost estimates ....by Boeing, NASA, Icon aircraft, Cirrus, Space-X ...really smart folks with billions of bucks to work with etc...so it just comes with the territory. We're happy when we get it right...and just keep our heads down when we don't. One example though....we have working cabin doors. You can open these doors via the GUI by clicking a checkbox to have the doors open/close. BUT....I guarantee some folks will want to open these doors more like the real thing, by grabbing the handles and rotating them. So....I put that feature in, and it was a bit more work than clicking my heels together 3 times....and when I did that, now the checkboxes via the GUI need to reflect the door state if opened by mouse first. If you open the door halfway with the mouse and then open the GUI dialog....what do you see then, what should the checkboxes show? What feels natural and logical? This disconnect between possible actuation methods caused animating 'jumps' and I had to run a bunch of tests to see what worked and felt logical and natural, and add custom code to handle all that and it just added some extra time, etc. But in the end, I know that the customers that like to move stuff with the mouse will be happy and those that don't care can still use the checkboxes. But until I tried it, I wasn't exactly sure what worked best. I have to view the interactivity in this example from the perspective of a LOT of customers with different preferences and expectations. In the end, its a win-win for all customers, at the expense of my time estimate being delayed because I decided to add in a feature I didn't before, etc. There's been a few other areas regarding lighting that didn't quite work out like I hoped, eating up too many FPS and I had to backtrack and make some changes there also. Until I tried it though, I wasn't sure what the performance cost would be..and the alternative method turned out to be quite a bit of work. So...its stuff like this that stretches the time estimates. Your comment though, that you love the product gives me confidence that my choices when doing the work are mostly the right ones, and taking the time to do it right, even if it goes past my estimates, are usually worth it. -tkyler1 point

Just keep it optional, please Btw: great simulation, quite unprecedented. Absolutely love the attention to detail. Got it only two days ago, so obviously still trying to get my head around it, sourcing infos and earning my "type rating".1 point

slow but steady on the lighting...this is cabin emergency lighting. XP12 has really opened up new opportunities with its lighting engine, though a learning process. Trying to balance lighting effects for a natural look across multiple x-plane 3D objects with multiple light sources is an exercise is patience for sure, but as a simmer since 1981, I can't say I mind. It fascinates me how far these graphics have evolved. -tkyler1 point

@Cameron @dlrkThis is what I'm asking for (see attached doc) I think it would've been very helpful to myself and many others. In his stream FAQ's, Toto said a quick start guide would be available. I've seen many questions in this forum that would have been answered by a document like this. In the mean time, I'm getting my knowledge from @Graeme and @totoritko's streams. It's a fantastic aircraft. Best regards, John QuickStartGuide.pdf1 point

Hello, First of all many thanks to the Hotstart development team for the superb CL650, especially the systems detail. My questions regarding checklist usage "CL650 Expanded Normal Procedures.pdf" or from the cockpit MFD-checklist. 1) How to know if a checklist item is intended to be executed (manually) by the "Captain" (LH-seat) or executed (automatic) by the "First Officer (Copilot)"? 2) Some checklist items have an icon of a white lamp between triangles (Eg. Flight compartment checklist item 3 "FIREX MONITOR) What is the meaning of that icon, what is it intended for? Thanks in advance for reply. Best Regards, Frank1 point

Xlua was not developed by a 3rd party. It is a LR implementation. Yet it is, as of 12.05, sucking fps out of XP12 like no other component. That LR haven't fixed it or made sure it was not in the release from the get-go is "absolutely appalling". And if this is the situation with their own module, it doesn't take Einstein to figure out how badly 3rd party devs have been treated. If devs really had input into what LR is doing (I doubt this), then it just shows that LR hasn't planned XP12 well. Zink is another example. LR has demonstrated with XP12 that they lack proper release management skills.0 points

All the developers have input and in site into what Laminar is doing, there is no easy way to change the guts of a flight sim without problems, and since the only way forward is to get rid of legacy stuff that is holding the sim back, it was bound to cause pain, but for all the pain, we get a far superior sim. "Appalling", really?. We still have our biggest developers with us. Xplane isnt about pretty graphics, its teh underlying engime simulation and flight model tha tchanges as new things are discovered to make it more real, like N1 and N2 being separated in XP12 to make engine start ups more real, like aircon and gen now adding load to engine which causes it to run hotter etc, this is what makes this sim different from the rest. I doubt the complaints will ever end.-1 points

Yes every one bags XP, as i have said before, we have so many experts out there, im surprised we dont have a dozen other perfect sims. when xplane goes through these cycle, all developers can chat with Laminar as to whats going on, thats why they sometimes hold back, which i think is the case with the .06 update, Id be surprised if developers dont make up part of the testing team, they would be silly not to. Like any updates, one fixes the worst things first than get to the less important things later, thats what Laminar is doing. I be surprised that they are not aware of the XLUA and SSL issues. but some things arent as easy to fix as some would think. Im a patient person, I was born at a time where parents had nothing and we where given out of there poverty, so we appreciate everything we get. How things have changed. Back on topic. Lets wait see what Laminar brings up.-1 points

As a member of the Laminar team, and the team member who uses XLua the most, I can tell you your assumptions are all wrong.-1 points

That is far too broad a question to provide an answer to. And, it's not my department! . Suffice it to say there is a LOT going on.-1 points

From what I see on FSElite.net. MSFS2024 has taken center stage at the FlightSim Expo 2023. And most of the Developers are focused on MSFS2020 and MSFS2024. Except for the developers here at x-pilot.com. Sorry x-plane fans, No question in my mind, X-plane 12 has taken a back seat at the FlightSim Expo 2023. Austin and LR better pick up their game if they want to keep up with Mircrosoft. Now would be the time for Austin to STEP IT UP! Or X-plane 12 will crash and burn. And Microsoft will be in full control of the flight sim world again. If they are not already??? NOT me, X-plane forever. Mircrosoft can kiss my a@#. Just calling it like I see it.-1 points
