Sunday Beaver Update 3 Hello, It is Sunday and time for another update. As you know, I created the View Control System for the Beaver this week and I hope you enjoyed the screenshots so far. In addition, I continued with systems coding and the animations of the external model. The first livery is still WIP, but hopefully I can show something soon. Besides all the technical stuff, I would like to talk about the Beaver release today, and I can imagine that a few of you are interested in this. The full modernized Beaver package will include the regular tire version, the cargo version with bush tires and cargo door with the corresponding interior and the amphibious version. As I know a lot of you are really waiting for the release, I came up with a release strategy and it will be a two step release. The first release will be the regular tire version only, but of course it will have all the features and will have gone through the full test cycle. So don't expect a degraded version. It will be full payware quality! The second release will be the full package, with all the version mentioned above. I chose this approach, because I would like to get the Beaver into your hands as soon as possible and I don't want you to wait until the full package is finished. I know a lot of you are waiting for this aircraft and I want to give it to you. Again, it will be fully developed and tested and at the moment, I just concentrate on the regular tire version. The one you have seen in the recent screenshots. It will come with three liveries and a blank exterior texture, so you are able to create your own liveries. I hope that nobody is disappointed by "just" getting only one version at the beginning. Well, most payware aircraft just come with a single version. The full Beaver package will have 3 different versions in the end. Now, I would like to give a few more details on the pricing: ============================================================ Step 1 The regular tire version for a price of $24.95 Step 2 The full package, including all three versions mentioned above for a price of $34.95 ============================================================ As soon as the full package is available, the single version of Step 1 won't be available anymore. Customers can then only buy the full package. Launch customers who bought the Beaver of Step 1 will be able to upgrade to the full package of Step 2, for $5. So they pay $29.95 for a high quality aircraft which comes with three different versions, instead of $34.95. I really hope that you are happy with this approach and I think it is fair! Now we come to the release date: ============================================================ Step 1 The regular tire version will be available in Spring 2014 Step 2 The full package, including all three versions mentioned above will be available 2-3 months after Step 1 ============================================================ So here you have all the details and in the coming weeks, we can purely focus on the technical updates again. You all have a great Sunday and of course a Merry Christmas!8 points

The Saab upgrade has a significant optimisation of the sound engine code. I will go out on a limb and say that there is a guaranteed FPS gain to be had for every single machine that runs it, regardless of GPU type or RAM installed, or even CPU clock speed. On top of that, there is an additional optimisation that has been identified in Gizmo itself; the code that draws fonts for all the CRT display screens. This will come later, probably early in the new year.2 points

I found this a few weeks ago... No idea who made it or where it came from but you know things are absurd when they start making Nazi parody videos about your "culture". and before anyone get's their nose out of shape over something trivial and ultimately hilariously childish.... I'll close my post with this, from a truly great mind of our time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdWKQ36JkwE2 points

Sounds like a pretty awesome setup, Rolf. I don't have an easy way to test this here, but I do know the underlying cloud engine used by SkyMaxx Pro is used all the time in professional multi-channel training simulators - and in principle, I know the line of code to add that should make the clouds line up in SkyMaxx Pro as well. I will add that in for the SkyMaxx Pro 1.3 release for you, which we're already working on.1 point

Go to X-Plane/X-Aviation and run the uninstaller. After this, re-run the X-Plane updater to restore default textures. I really don't have much else to offer you here. You are clearly placing blame on us when this may perhaps not be our issue at all (it may be another offending plug-in, etc). This is not a controlled environment. You aren't beta testing anything here. It's VERY obvious this is not even close to a widespread issue, so expecting us to pull magic from the hat without your help is well...impossible. We'll be here to help you if you WANT the help. That's the best I can offer you.1 point

I think you have slightly misinterpreted Ben. The point he was trying to make was not that people shouldn't make suggestions. This is, after all, how products get better. It's those who come in with a demand rather than suggestion. There are ways to carry yourself, and some people have not done a tremendous job of that. Ben's primary point was also that as developers we are only subject to provide you what we advertised to you and paid for. Bugs, fixes, etc are entitlements to you as a customer. You can and should expect free updates for these things. But, things like a weather injection system, or other items never intended or advertised are simply icing on the cake, free additives, and not entitlements. This is the disconnect Ben is talking about from the real world vs. the digital world. I don't ever expect my tupperware in the cupboard to grow wings the next day. I bought it knowing what I was getting and nothing more.1 point

This is the way Americans like to express themselves they are very appreciative and show a lot of gratitude maybe sometime a bit too much but this is the way they are. We Italians (the majority) are very different we smile less, we show very little gratitude, and try as much as we can to show very little or no enthusiasm at all for somebody else work. I don't want to say we Italians are all like that, and Americans are better then us we are just different, different culture, and show our feelings in a different way. Appreciation is not our forte, but we can improve, look... I had to smooth some angles of my character otherwise they would kick me out of this country (US) already1 point

I don't mind your feedback at all Mat, as a matter of fact we have added some of your suggestions to the roadmap...... Those individuals who are happy with SM, see the value of the product and are enjoying it, Mat it is OK to be happy..... What caused me to jump into the mix was the product basically being called incomplete..... I know we will not make everyone happy but rest assured SM is organic and has a bright future....1 point

Vag69, I made no false claims as to the what SkyMAXX provides at all, and what it does offer justifies the price. By no means is this an incomplete product. Changes being made are directly related to the valuable feedback we gain from the community and by no means are provided because of any deficiencies with the product.... Vag I don't know if you know what I do at Maxx-XP, but updates and follow ups are always provided because there is always room to improve on a product and I really enjoy X-Plane and I want to help extend the product with my add-ons. Your claims are not justified one bit and I would appriciate if you refrain from making stupid claims..... Additionally we are working on this product in the background, if I were on forums posting all the time things wouldn't get done.... Keep in mind: We love feedback and it motiviates us to further the X-Plane experience...... ALSO!!! If you are having financial problems, consider it my obligation to tell you to not buy SkyMAXX Pro and utilize that money else ware. I would hate to see any financial difficulties due to you purchasing my fantastic product....1 point

If you take the time to review the product page at X-Aviation I think you'll find the product delivers exactly what it says. X-Plane has never had distant clouds, this is a very long standing issue, so we haven't removed anything there. In fact, last time I tested the default clouds, X-Plane couldn't even cope with NEAR clouds that were partially in view, very large chunks of cloud formations pop-in and pop-out as you rotate around the compass. The default effect is laughable. So laughable that for years I've been flying CAVOK so I can completely avoid the default. Here is the product page for easy access: http://www.x-aviation.com/catalog/skymaxx-p-101.html Take a minute to watch the slideshow, it shows a bunch of different items, including a nice lightning strike. Would it be nice to have distant cloud formations? Absolutely. Unfortunately, X-Plane only provides data for the weather that is very localised around the aircraft. Because of this ALL the plugins that feed X-Plane data from NOAA or METAR files ALSO can only provide localised weather data. There is absolutely no data available to X-Plane about distant weather. NONE. You can use the built in METAR or the NOAA plugin, both of them only care about a very small area of air space. SkyMAXX was never advertised as a weather-injector. It's advertised as a visual effects change.1 point

This is very true, however, it's how you say it that matters most. There's a difference between criticism with a negative tone and constructive criticism. I hope your Christmas goes well, Mat! It's a time to be with family and friends above all, so if possible, do so.1 point

Ha! So may be people critic like me could be one of the reason for a developer to keep on the good work. I know I was and I am a bit too critic, expecially for the price but uh...in my country money is starting to be a bit more important than in past years...economy looks very bad here...and this christmas reflects this situation! Sorry... Have a nice christmas.1 point

Check that Sky! Skymaxx Pro with "true blue high contrast". It produces a really nice pinky colour at early sunset. In the foreground I have Melbourne International with some great HDR lighting. Since 10.25 X-Plane has been running so slick ^There's the pink ^Look at the freeway tracing back to the city of Melbourne with skyscrapers in the background1 point

Great news I am a HW cockpit builder on the NG series and this would be a great flightmodel to use because of the non plugin. I would be more than happy to betatest the flightmodel in my cockpit using my advanced avionics software and profiles.1 point
