The videos tend to make things a bit dark unfortunately due to all sorts of compression and conversion issues. So here is a direct from sim screen shot of what it looks like with everything cranked up, albeit on an overcast day so its dark on purpose. This is what the "lucky ones" with a 4GB video card will probably get to fly with. MAYBE the 2GB VRAM crowd depending on other settings. This is max everything at 1920x1080. My 512 card was giving me....oh....about 10sec / frame. Here you can see the quality of the texturing and lighting a bit better.5 points

Hey everyone, we're pulling support for V9, it's become too tedious to write plugin code for things that are already simulated without coding for V10, as well, V9 has started running very slowly for me and is just too much of a hassle to work with, all 787 work will now be V10 exclusive.3 points

Welcome to the way I fly! Rules, procedures, checklists, taxiways..... that's all crap designed to delay getting in the air. I get it airborne from the gate and worry about the niceties tomorrow.1 point

If needed I have no problems making osm sceneried on demand and upload them with permission from our simheaven guru, onto his site. Keep me lnformed1 point

Our initial thought when developing MaxxFX was to leave the cockpit untouched, and we did have that up and running at one point. I can confirm what John said - it looked goofy to have different color palettes on the cockpit and the scenery. We were also unable to figure out how to get it working in HDR mode - adjusting the color of the entire scene was the only way to get MaxxFX to work in both the HDR and non-HDR cases. I understand your trepidation however, as most of the videos and screenshots of MaxxFX out there don't have a cockpit view. Here's what it looks like with the "Extra Normal" preset as an example: (I also uploaded a view of a 3D cockpit at http://media.sundog-soft.com/c4_2.png ). As you can see, it's generally a non-issue. MaxxFX gives you complete control of the colors, and it's certainly possible to set up bad-looking cockpits with the power user settings and some of the more extreme presets. But, for the settings you'd actually want to fly with long-term, it's generally a subtle enough enhancement that the cockpit still looks good too.1 point

I can host generated sceneries at simheaven.com. And I could give some specialists FTP access to upload files. If the version is stable and the quality of the sceneries is good, I can replace my osm sceneries made Feb 2014. Of course there are many curious simflyers want to get ready made sceneries, IMHO it is reasonable to have them after the version is stable and not to download every two days a new version.1 point

I don't think that torrents would make much sense at this stage. As everything is still very much WIP those files would become outdated fairly quickly... For now I'm offering my reasonably sized Swiss scenery 'as is' for public download here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/vz591fbl1e31l5h/OSM_CH.7z (~72MB, 7Zip compressed) It was generated with the latest Alpha (0.0.6) using the current OSM country export from Geofabrik and the following custom options: - LOD 10km (default = 12km) - Smart exclusions = true - Building exclusion range = 100m - Forest exclusion range = 500m Just unzip the contained folder "OSM_CH" into your Custom Scenery making sure it is at the right priority in scenery_packs.ini e.g. just above any custom meshes, orthophoto, OSM Europe from Simheaven, Treelines and Farms from Alpilotx, etc. Also, it is recommended to use Simheaven's Europe Library as otherwise the autogen outside the smart exclusion zones will show US-style buildings...1 point

I understand your point of view I was really excited when I got the email announcing MAXX FX I wasn't aware of this project and wanted to buy it immediately! I thought I could used to fix all those weird situations like overcast dark weather but super bright, saturated colors textures of the photoreal, or the opposite beautiful sunny weather but with dull, dark terrain textures but then I realized that the cockpit would be affected by these changes. Maybe it would be useful to make an evaluation version, so people like me interested in a corrective use only, might see how the cockpit becomes, and if a compromise could be made. Just an idea, but I really appreciate your efforts John, you are a huge contributor to X plane, THANKS!1 point

Sunday Beaver Update 13 Hi, The mid week update didn't work out, but the Beaver made good progress again during the second half of this week. 3D cockpit and external Animations All switches and controls in the 3D cockpit are now hooked up properly again and can be accessed via my custom cockpit interface. As you know I tried to support external hardware, but not everything was working out as planned. The radios can be operated properly via external radio equipment. However, switches were not always properly working and some of the Beaver switches are not supported by external hardware anyway, so the virtual cockpit has to be used. Everything can be operated properly via the virtual cockpit though. I will provide the list of all custom and standard XP datarefs which are used in the 3D cockpit, so if somebody wants to make custom hardware work, he or she should be able to do so having this information. The cockpit lights (instruments, map, cabin, warning lights) are properly working now, according to their state and power source and the same is true for external lights. I also added a few more animations for the external model. The prop, flight control surfaces and the tires are working fine now. A nested animation for the tail wheel steering is driving me crazy at the moment, because the parenting of parts is correct from my point of view, but I will figure it out. Systems I also continued with systems coding and the main part has been the implementation of the S-TEC autopilot. Still some work to do, but it looks fine so far. That's it for this Sunday.1 point

No chance, because the plane went done over the south china sea. Thats about 1000 km away from North Korea. But if we are hoping for a miracle, then there might be a chance of the plane being hijacked and flown to someplace we don't know.1 point

As part of some experimenting that I'm doing, I've put together a little web app that aircraft authors can use to browse and filter datarefs quickly...similar to Dataref Editor (DRE) in x-plane. If you normally use the list of datarefs found at xsquawkbox.net, this will be welcome relief. Simply type in a search string and hit enter to filter the dataref results. Case insensitivity is included in the searches by default because well, Austin wasn't the most consistent in this area. Also, the search box supports PERL style GREP expressions. So you can search for things like: cockpit2.+actuators.+ratio which would list all cockpit actuators that set a ratio value. In addition, there is a quick filter pull down that lets you filter by common categories depending on authoring needs. For example, you may be animating a cockpit in blender and only need to be concerned with actuators and controls...or you're just working on Landing gear stuff. This is a 'practice app' that I'm using to learn some specific things. The tech I'm using is what is called "reactive" in the sense that if I make a code change and upload it, you will see the reaction automatically without you having to refresh the page ...so if you're browsing with the app and all the sudden the page looks like its refreshing, then you know I have made a change. The changes I will most likely make will be visual and/or to increase the filter options or perhaps add a few checkboxes for whatever reason. There is no plan, this is just a sandbox project that I happen to find very useful at the moment and figure other authors might as well. The app is hosted as a "guest" on its server, so no telling how long it was persist. TomK http://drbrowser.meteor.com/1 point

Almost landed It was a long-long journey. The development in the last few months slowed down as hell But finally fixed up all the small things which I thought needed for a good-quality plane. I know, there are small bugs here and there, will fix them later - or if the community will, I'll include in the next release. Still, there are a lots of things to do but there is no point where a "product" is ready, you just freeze the development at some point and release Need few days for creating readme and some documentation on paint templates, etc. This release (v0.9) will include: XP-9 version with 2D panel (compatible with XP-10)Cargo version (FARNAIR - HA-LAR)Passenger version (manx2.com - OK-UBA) without passengersPaint templates Flight Manual And here is the planned roadmap: v1.0 (only XP-10) 3D cockpitv1.1 Some basic plugin functionality for engine modelAnd maybe custom sounds, but not sure if I can get proper quality sounds1 point
