Here's what to do: 1. Login to your X-Aviation account here: https://www.x-aviation.com/catalog/account_history.php 2. Find your original SkyMaxx Pro v5 download and re-download the file. It will download as the latest version! The following is a list of additions/fixes included: What's New / Changed: Fix "ghost shadows" caused by window resolutions changing Fix cloud / terrain blending for non-volumetric clouds Fix draw order issues between terrain and volumetric clouds - like mountains being seen through clouds (on MacOS, this fix only works if MSAA is not active.) One added bonus for me....I can now use FS Global Real Weather to inject weather into XP, something I couldn't do with SMP 4 as it killed my frame rates. So, another paid software I can use now! And at 30,000 draw radius as opposed to 10,000 draw radius. Take a look at the frame rates Although, I was getting pretty nice weather/cloud depiction with SMP 4 and RWC also2 points

He's saying that instead of downgrading, you can select non-volumetric clouds in SkyMaxx Pro's overcast and cumulus cloud representation settings. That basically puts you back at how 4.9.6 worked.1 point

I guess you could just switch back to the v4 style clouds in the various "configure texture" menus.1 point

I think I have solved the problem?? I add some carb heat when warming the engines up, and the problem went away. I have tried to duplicate the icing problem, but it works fine now, even with the carb heat off. Like I said in the original post, it doesn't do it all the time, so I'm not sure if the problem is solved. Thanks for every ones help.1 point

Well... As a VR user, I can assure you that the rotating clouds/crosseyed effect problem is thankfully fixed, which is all it would take to make me a happy panda but !... Volumetric clouds in SMP v5 do come with their own set of issues at the moment, which are to my eyes more disturbing than the "rotating clouds" effect I've gotten used to with v4 over time. See here and there if you want to get a rough idea and make an informed decision. Also the "clouds to the horizon" is not really a thing in VR yet. I have to keep my distance slider to the default 10000 I used before to keep similar performance, your mileage may vary depending on your GPU (I have a 1080Ti). To be fair, setting the slider to max does not impact performance nearly as much as it did before, but it does so enough that it's not suitable for me yet. Shadows do look awkward in VR. They "move" with head movements, which feels kinda similar to the rotating effect of v4 clouds so you'd want to have these disabled as well, as recommended by SMP's manual itself. Currently you'd be trading rolling clouds for the occasional sea of milk or sharp-edged mountaintop showing through, until things hopefully get improved in the future, although it was hinted that a fix may come with a performance hit. Clouds do look and perform fine when they don't break though. They don't look great, but they're believable enough and have defined shapes and edges which is all I'd wish for. For now I'll test it a bit more to see what can be done to tune the performance and allow for longer viewing distances and maybe help the team with testing and feedback, but I may be rolling back to billboard clouds soon.1 point

Going to the BlackMagic would be a downgrade in your scenario. You would be better off with something like a Razer Core X with a 6900XT. The 5700XT is otherwise the next best thing, and being directly connected to your motherboard, you have an edge.1 point

In addition to the VNAV work we have also these fixes lined up for the next update: Improvements * Added switch in aircraft file to always force experimental flight model on * Improved tracking ability of nosewheel in tight turns (less skidding) * A "direct to" turn will not attempt to re-intercept the line between current aircraft position and the waypoint * Yoke checklist can now be flipped up and down and yellow bug goes all the way to top again * Added a dataref to indicate if autothrottle is active or not * Added a preference to "pause on Top of Descent" Bug fixes * Fixed right-hand windshield wiper 3D * Fixed fuel gauge testcycle * Fixed leading-edge devices lighttest button * Fixed EGT needle on steam gauges not going higher than 800C * Fixed hydraulic accumulator pressure on modern gauges always showing full pressure * Autopilot trim cutout switches will now also stop the speed trim * Scavange pump will not trigger unless a center-tank pumpswitch has been turned on then off * Animated stopwatch buttons * Vertical speed scrollwheel can now turn "infinitely" (instead of running against an invisible turn limit) Cheers, Jan1 point

Please try to understand this from the perspective of users who paid $65 for what well may be the most expensive add-on GA aircraft in X-Plane, doubly so for those who paid for it during the last seven months without having been told that the most basic ILS technology (which works in every default XP aircraft) is nonfunctional in the Hot Start TBM900. This is a customer relations issue, not a technical one. It's X-Aviation's reputation that's on the line, not that of the customers. If you wish to censor and scold us, then have at it. I'm not so sure that works well in the social media-rich world of 2021, but give it a try. The developers had over half a year to fix this problem and, indeed, claim to have done so, but do not want to bear the expense of releasing that fix. That's a business decision over which the customers have no control, but it may come at a significant reputational cost. Happy New Year everyone. Be safe.1 point
