  1. It seems to work that way, sometimes. The whole "bird scaring" thing is a bit of a mystery - some people believe that they can sense the radioenergy of the weather radar, and one Italian airport even asked pilots officially (LIPE, iirc) to use the wxr radar even in good weather to test the theory. 3. Some years ago (something like 50 years), i was in a DC4, and remenber the navigator on a stool, his head and his sextan in the dome. No door between the cockpit and the cabin. Happy days!

  4. Hehe, guys, I hope everyone realizes that this thread is ment to be just a fun diversion - no need to give Vantskruv bad rep! Anyway, I am intrigued by the early use of astronomical data for navigation, and I recommend the book "Longitude" by Dava Sobel - a great read about the problems that early navigators faced. Of course you would have to be a very adept user of a sextant to navigate your way through a typical Italian SID, plus have clear skies . I think the 707´s and some military planes used to have that skyport necessary for that? Jan

  5. It´s a replica of the paint-stripe on the spinner. We figured we should put it on the vertical stabilizer as well, so we have less bird strikes from severly myopic birds that hit the tailfin when the plane is parked somewhere!

  7. So here's what's happening. The Saab is still being worked on. Quite a bit of work in the programming department has already been done on it, as well as re-modeling and re-texturing some of the cockpit that was done in the 2nd half of last year. I'll post screenshots soon. DC-3 update is in the works. Mainly updates in code. Flight model has had a few changes made along with a few cosmetic changes and bug fixes The 747-200 and -400 are still moving forward but they are long term projects and a lot has been happening on those in recent months. Don't want to elaborate on that just yet. I really want to, and plan on finishing the Hawker 4000, but it will need quite a lot of programming and an FMC. I was almost prepared to just add some kind of basic FMC, but after talking to Cameron and Theo about it, we all agreed it needs to be done properly. So the Hawker 4000 is just on hold until we can get it programmed properly. So, after making a bunch of prop aircraft, and while Theo was busy texturing the DC-3, I had very little to do, so I started work on a Cessna Citation II sometime in November last year. It's quite far along now and shouldn't take much longer to finish.

  8. Those domes really add character to those old pistonpounders. But I'm not sure if it would suit the 737 that well Img from flickr

  9. My guess is that there are more evident parts of an aircraft that attract a bird's undevided attention a bit more than that beautifully decorative spinner whirl. I would consider a taxi or landing light and the aircraft noise quite annoying. But hey, it turns out I'm not a bird. So what do I know. This is what Rolls Royce said about the whirls: I think their main reason is for ground crews to see easily if an engine is running. On a related note: props have the stripes on the tips to make them more visible while spinning.

  11. Right... I promise you, no one can say when it's going to release with or without FMC, the only one who can decide that is the IXEG team them self, pointless post Vantkruv...

  13. Technically, thats not quite correct . Just like the real weather radar we depict radar-energy returns. Radar energy will be reflected by liquid water (rain) and by the solid ground (in varying strength, depending on the reflectivity). There will be a tutorial video that shows how to use the weather radar (overscanning, underscanning, ground returns, shadowing, etc.) Jan

  15. We already have 1 layout modelled and textured. I'm currently in the process of going through it and taking advantage of an encyclopedia of photos we received late last year, re-modelleing and re-texturing certain areas, but the actual configuration is pretty much what it looks like in the screenshot.

  16. I agree. You need to redo the cockpit. Because of this, release will probaly be postponed, but it is worth it! Cannot wait to see the new cockpit screenshots with the sextant in the roof!

  17. When you fly oversea, and Mr. Kyler:s FMC fails, this should be used instead: http://www.dh-aircraft.co.uk/news/files/fa209f26b0321f2de7499e6f2c846588-101.html (Periscopic Sextant) Hereby I state that I refuse to buy this airplane if above function is not implemented. Mr. Kyler should scrap the FMC and release the airplane with this tool. Those who agree, please vote by agreeing in this thread. The other people who do not understand the magnitude of importance for this, state the reason why you not concede. Mr Kyler, I demand you to release the airplane now without the FMC.
