  3. Ok .... it's already some time after the last update, thus I wanted to let you know that I'm still working on it. There is still quite a lot to do, but meanwhile, enjoy the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpcUxtuUd-I

  8. No. The amount of work invested in Gizmo is not worth repeating for something like the flight sim market. "THE" simulator is entirely subjective and based purely on individual user passion. Something which cannot be defined or rationalised by any set of features.

  11. Hi Ben, Hopefully you don't think I'm the troll - I just lashed out because this thread was not meant to be a 'which sim is better' it's more about how good P3Dv2.1 is running on some of our systems. It really annoys me when people start going on about the 'student' thing regarding P3D as most of us who fly flight sims are learning in some way or another. LM have basically acknowledged that so therefore if you are learning from the flight sim you are eligible to buy it - simple as that. I like X-Plane 10 and use it often. I learn in it by how planes fly and react I learn navigation and so on. I also do the exact same in FSX and P3Dv2.1 - I am learning. And thank you for bringing others to the attention that X-Plane doesn't have an as big a community as P3D - I wish it was though! Cheers, Craig

  12. Even with all those limitations the market size for P3D is still several thousand times larger than the market for X-P and Linux. Obvious troll is obvious.

  13. I bought the Prepar 3d 2.1 and I have had continues OOM Errors, I did install Orbx Global and Vectors and it does not even compare to the new X-plane HD scenery.Prepar3d seems blurry and the scenery in my opinion is a little cartoonish. Xplane with all the new options Skymax Pro and the HD Scenery blows it out of the water. They use to say Fsx was as "real as it gets" but x-plane now is the only sim that really is as real "as it "gets and with everyone's help will only get better. When I fly around CYVR and look at the water and the scenery its breath taking. Nuff Said

  14. X-Plane a smaller community than P3D ? How is this possible ? Prepar3D is only for students, developers, professionals, only for Windows, and only for purposes other than personal/consumer entertainment.

  16. Hi Tony, This looks very promising. Is this made with Facades, or buildings, or is this the OSM 3d buldings? As far as NYC GIS data goes, the city makes quite a good bit of data available for free. You can see some very nice GIS datasets here: https://nycopendata.socrata.com/browse?tags=doitt+gis I've used this information to make a model of all of NYC's buildings (simple for now, but I could texture it fairly easily), roads and terrain in Infraworks (another tool I use at work, see images) I processed the data a bit to add building height information to each footprint, the result is a shapefile will every footprint in the city with it's height. I use that parameter to extrude the buildings. They also have a nice road centerline shapefile will roads lane info and elevation data! Perhaps this is useful? Also I am going to look into facades a bit more as soon as I get some free time.

  19. I am not begrudging anyone, just hits a nerve when you pay for something and a couple year later its free. This is true of many of the planes that were in the email I received from the org showing the list free planes that were bought out by Nicholas. Only 1 plane on his list I did not already own. But at least they were updated to run 10x.

  21. Hi All, This is my first post, but I've been a lurker for quite some time. I am new X-plane user, and a recent convert from FSX. Tony, I am very impressed with your work so far, and one of my primary reasons for moving to X-plane is the potential for scenery creation, so your work is indeed inspiring!! Some background on me that my help put this in context: I'm an architect by day, and I primarily work on huge airport projects, (terminals, air side and land side, etc), and as you can imagine I am very interested in all things aviation. I initially looked at x-plane and a way to get our new airport layouts into a simulator to get a "pilots perspective" We create incredible detailed models (bulding information models or BIM) as we design a terminal, and this model has to interface with air-side models of the ramps and taxiways. Unfortunately I think our models are far too detailed to be brought directly into X-plane (we typically model down to the door knobs on doors), but I an investigating simplifying things so we can test our new taxi ways and gating plans, but I digress..... The reason I am responding to this particular thread is that the firm I work for does a good deal of urban planning around the the world, and one of my jobs is...you guessed it, to create massive city models with hundreds of thousands on buildings based our master-plan, which gives our clients a idea of what the new city could look like. To do this I use many tools but the one i fall back on the most is CityEnginge. (http://www.esri.com/software/cityengine) CityEngine allows me to script the procedural creation of buildings, based on what ever parameters I wish, it can dynamically create and update road networks, and regenerate 10's of thousands of buildings in minutes, if not seconds. It even reads OSM. A single CGA (computer generated architecture) script, can generate all of the buuildings you see in the images attached. If you don't like the results, hit a new random seed and the building regenerates. As these are the VERY low-poly ones! We can create highly detailed buildings, but that won't be helpful for x-plane. My goal is to help by generating buildings low poly enough for use in tony's tool. HOWEVER, and this is big, so far I can make and export thousands of OBJ buildings with the proper origin and "basements" as required, BUT i am having major problems getting the UV's to work with a texture atlas that is required. I've got good textures, but they are not on a sheet, etc. I've looked at post processing in 3ds MAX, Maya, and Softimage and I can get close with a few scripts, but it's not exact and required some hand adjusting, not ideal if i want to process thousands of OBJ's. IF anyone here is an expert on texturing in Max or Maya, (UVW unwrapping, etc) and could pass on a few tips, I'd greatly appreciate it. In any event, I'll hand process a few so that we can add them to the collection here. Looking forward to helping out! Best, Chris

  22. Sunday Beaver Update 12 Hello, time for the Sunday update and today I can actually show some new pictures. At least something visual today. This week I kept myself busy with a few more changes to the cockpit interface and I sent the new version off to the test team a few minutes ago and I hope they come back with positive results for their external equipment. If so, all this re-work was worth it. My plan is to finish all cockpit animations and controls by the end of next week and then maybe two or three days on the external ones. Then I will have all the visuals in place. After that I will dive back into the more technical stuff like flight modeling, systems coding and sound again and I am really looking forward to it. The visuals I can show today are for the Beaver pilot. He got a headset now and it not looking so tanned anymore. You will also see two shots of him in the cockpit, but don't be afraid that he will be there forever. He will only be visible in external view. I just did these shots so that you can get a better impression of what he looks like. You all have a nice Sunday!

  23. And if for some reason you decide that you do learn anything from X-Plane because of the apparent real flight dynamics, Navs etc etc then guess what - you are entitled to P3D because you are learning!! Og\h but sorry, you don't learn in X-Plane - it's just a toy/game! That's right!!

  24. Are you guys not over that yet!! Ok sorry, I didn't realize that X-Plane was just a GAME - maybe I will delete it then. You guys can play with your toy sim (Game) since you think it's not educational. You guys are SAD!!
