Exercises like that, are far from being pointless. By doing them, you gain a lot of movement coordination and spatial orientation, that will improve your flying in general and might get you out of trouble one day - rotorcraft or not. Just because a typical helipad is twice as large as a helicopter, it doesn't mean, that we should land whenever the bird wants ;) Also, this level of precision, as shown on your screenhot, is mandatory for awarding Hovercontrol Certified Pilot badge, which is not easy. Well done!

One note though. BK117, in all its greatness, is a poor trainer, as flight stabilisation system does part of the job for you, thus preventing you from learning and honing that part. Bell 206, or even MD500, would be a better choice. Training with them will be harder at first, but the time invested will pay off more, at a later point.
