  3. Conversly, Online mapping is too important too lose for the sake of being able to make photo terrain for free. Google needs to show the people that it pays for imagery that it is taking reasonable steps to protect the assets. Thousands of people ripping stuff off is a problem in a marginal industry. This isn't music tv or movies with millions of viewers and "shop lifter tax". Legitimate paying customers for image data sets don't come in walmart volumes. Arguing that your abuse is small doesn't work.
  4. Dan has a series of video tutorials on YouTube that were created to explain how to make yourself an ERJ. Go watch them.
  5. ha! I have the FSX demo, I've run it three times. I like the way you have to hold space down to move your view around, or w/ever it was. I also liked......... um... No, that was all I liked.

  7. Jacob, I'm sorry but I had to remove the images you posted. ImageBam uses explicit adult imagery in its banner ad's. This is an all ages site. Thanks for your understanding. Ben.
  8. ...sounds like you should do up a thread, so that everyone can learn. I'm all for throwing rocks, as long as you have solid ground to stand on and a bunch of text books or reference papers that you can use to deflect returned missiles.
  9. I've been using Alibre Design for a while now and am very impressed, so I thought some of you would be interested in checking it out for yourself. Alibre Design is an incredibly easy-to-use and learn 3D CAD system for mechanical design, comparable to products like SolidWorks, Pro/ENGINEER or Inventor, but costs thousands less. The software has integrated tutorials and live support, so it's easy to be productive quickly. They've recently re-launched their personal edition, you can get a ridiculously powerful app for only $99 USD. Here's the feature list for the Personal Edition, the more expensive versions just get better. For ~$1500 you can do FEA stress tests! http://www.alibre.com/products/hobby/ Here's their referal program link which can get me some free maintenance/support if some of you end up purchasing a copy... http://www.alibre.com/register/referral.aspx?refcode=MGQSXB
  10. Thanks for sharing Zach! ... I grabbed this one to mess with, I've always wondered what they'd be like to fly.

  16. Hi Guys. I've started this forum section as a trophy cabinet. Please post a thread-per-product of what you feel really makes x-plane for you, what makes you want to keep flying it. Please post URL's and info so that others may enjoy what you love. The idea is to try and expose a few more of the gems, a few items I can think of that I will try and get some pointers to: Some of these I've used, some I have simply noticed that other people get a lot out of them. - Hughes H500D helo - an oldie but a goodie. - PilotView - Checklister - Airport Nav plugin - Mu-2 - Falco - ERJ - CF-104 Starfighter - BK-117 - Hurricane - NetFlight If it's class leading, or shows off and/or pushes the sim somehow, in any direction, we want to know about it! Be warned though, that if you post bullshit, it will be called for what it is. If you want to throw stones, expect to be challenged, critique is fine as long as it's constructive. Posts that amount to "it's crap" with no backing will be erased.
  17. ...Mid7night's got a payware A-4 in the works, dunno what the diff is with the K, perhaps, within the confines of X-Plane, the difference is a bit of fuel and a .obj?
  18. Greg Hofer (Classic Jet Sims)already has a very well rounded out product that has been developed in conjunction with mil forces, either Canadian or USN, not sure. Either way, it's a class A product. It may be Windows Only though. I can't speak for Javier, he will do what he likes, but given that Classic Jet Sims model is both visually and systems accurate, it would seem rather pointless to do a cheap copy of it.
  19. ha. I get about 30 fps with everything off And I do mean -everything-. I fly from water world. No clouds. 12nm vis. No shaders. No AA. No Anisotropic. All detail sliders on low. I think the only thing I don't turn down is the texture detail, but it sure isn't what I'd call pretty. Being able to see through UV map bleeding is the norm. The 2.7ghz G5 is probably the worst machine Apple ever produced, it's slower than the 2.5ghz model due to bus contention issues (it runs a bit too fast, everything else has to wait, queueing gets messy.) It's liquid cooled, and leaked. The replacement model has a fan system so loud that I have taken half of the fans out and it's still louder than the original G5 I bought. (It came with a delphi cooler, which are known to leak, it now has a panasonic cooler and a different fan speed driver.) On the upside, it means that any add ons I touch are FPS sensitive and you guys get a better experience for it. The Gizmo leak is somewhat of an exception because it's time dependent, because my sim experience is so bland I don't think I've ever flown around for more than about half an hour at a time.
  20. What's in your computer? ......Abacus beads. As in: My old G5 is so slow that I might as well just do the calculations by hand, with an abacus. Now for the dry and technical version: Dual G5 2.7gzh, 2gigs ram. 256mb ATI 9650 Etcha-Sketch.

  23. Hi Guys. This definitely seems to be an issue with Gizmo. I'll get a new version out soon that addresses this, but, for now, as Gizmo is only being used for contacting the license server, once you have registered your product feel free to simply disable Gizmo "in sim" by going to Plugins > Plugin Admin, finding Gizmo in the list and disabling it. Once disabled you should be able to fly as long as you like with no FPS leak. Sorry for the hassle.
  24. They're probably using the much over-hyped "JERA" "technique". Basically they use a small rocket engine to work around the sound limitations of X-Plane and they make a huge fuss over it, with special labels and custom acronyms, ultimately its just a bullshit hack, if we labelled every tech-work-around we use to get stuff done we'd end up with product names six miles long.
  25. there's 4,000+ datarefs to audit. we're in a growing phase for x-plane where it is moving into a phase where plugins almost didnt exist to where they're basically required to do anything interesting. quirks like this are to be expected, its good to raise them, but its best to do it in a way that doesnt point any fingers to angrily.
