The "broken stratiform" setting might be more to your liking. The color of the clouds depends on the thickness of the cloud, the time of day, etc. We tried to strike a balance so thin cloud layers wouldn't appear too bright, but thicker layers would still look reasonable. I'm sure we'll continue to refine it as time goes on.
Updating progress sky. Pre-view of the new dawn texture. The day sky created with 3 "real sky textures" captured in 3 different locations and 3 different "clear air status". The mix of these 3 sky textures generate interesting realistic sky in x-plane on different flight levels. I'm working to better optimize this sky, and also create new sunsets.
