  1. The latest little project I am working on is a "plain and simple" update of my X-Plane 10 Tree Lines and Farms scenery to V2. The main improvement will be, that you will see a vastly improved amount of tree lines: based on newer OSM data (the same I used for HD Mesh Scenery v2 ... thus the two are "perfectly" matched), which alone brings - because of its growth - a lot of new vector data where I can derive more tree linesnow many tree lines are also placed along water features (rivers, lakes) - which was a long requested featurerailroads got a few tree lines tooOverall - just by looking at the file sizes - the amount of tree lines is easily tripled! Follow this link for a lot more screen shots: https://picasaweb.google.com/101666907909842492197/PREVIEWXPlane10TreeLinesAndFarmsV2?authuser=0&feat=directlinkEstimated release should be in the coming 2-4 weeks. PS: and some of you will notice, that all the screenshots have a new "atmosphere" look, which is based on the great findings from this thread at AVSIM: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/433908-experimenting-with-art-controls-raleigh-scattering/page-3

  3. Hi Folks, It's been quite a while since we've had an update in here, and it's been a long road to get to this point. NORCAL has gone through multiple iterations, transitions, and ideas. On top of this, over the last year we have entirely re-worked the backbone of our delivery system to be more robust and be able to handle a package the size of NORCAL. One of the more common requests we have had over the years is for some form of autogen to be present with RealScenery products, and I'm happy to announce that starting with NORCAL we have a solution for this! RS Autogen utilizes our own autogen generating scripts and the X-Plane object library, combined with custom and default (depending on data matchup) autogen information to get it to line up properly over the imagery. This includes roads, buildings, and trees. Without a doubt, this adds a whole new level of immersion! I'm also happy to report that using this autogen with RealScenery allows for a better FPS value than with default X-Plane scenery. This ultimately allows you to crank up your autogen settings and enjoy the scenery to the fullest extent! I typically add photos here that fit within the width of the forum, but this time I am going to provide links to fuller sized images so you can get a feel for the objects over the imagery. The next steps now is our final upload and test of the files, as well as finishing up the organization and delivery of content to you as customers in how we will begin to now offer tiled areas instead of just the full package. 4. Hi, I'm not an X-plane user yet. But, I'm leaning that direction. With all the new stuff being released; considering very strongly into taking the plunge. I joined this sight, mainly to get an update on the 747-200. Will be spectacular when it's done; "Ready for Pushback" for X-plane. That's when I ran across the Saab 340A. Kudos gentlemen! I have approx. 5500 hrs flying that plane. Although, I enjoyed flying the "B" model better. Brings back old memories, when I see your screenshots, and read the specs. What a wonderful piece of work. If/when I decide to take the X-plane plunge, ( my real life flying, keeps me very busy right now) These will be the first planes I purchase. Still have my old Saab manuals. Have to dust them off. 28 electrical busses...yippee! BTW, just throw this out there. I own a Piper Aerostar 601P. If you ever decide you might want to make that aircraft, feel free to get in touch. :-) Thanks again. Best, David

  5. I think I like the variation in foliage colors from your previous example better. Perhaps randomizing the hues would do the trick! But still...

  7. When colors look dark and dull (downloadable instruction PDF) 0 Follow this file When colors look dark and dull I am painting aircraft-models for flightsim for many years now. To be frank ,I did not expect to find much I did not already know. Until some wheeks ago , when I started to make a repaint (Thai Royal Air Force) for the ATR 72-500 ( Aerosoft/McPhatstudios ) Not really a big deal , a white airplane with an emblem and a blue and gold cheatline. The "white" happened to be the problem. I tried, tried once again I really was going mad. Even a complete pure white texture turned out to produce a greyish kinda thing. I realised that had to come from the OBJ files. An OBJ file can be opened with a text-editor so I did. Ok I knew, a command line reading ATTR_shiny_rat 1.00 gives us a plane with a bit of gloss, ATTR_shiny_rat 10.00 gives us even more. We can fill in the value we like. There are many different ATTR commands. Among them is a special one , ATTR_diffuse_RGB 0.00 (or other values) This is the command which drove me mad. In the OBJ file for the front section of the fuselage I found this line , ATTR_diffuse_rgb 0.820 0.820 0.820 That was the explanation of the problem ATTR_diffuse_rgb 1.00 1.00 1.00 means 100% of the color/bightness ( pure white is 255.255.255) ATTR_diffuse_rgb 0.820 0.820 0.820 means less than 100% 0.820 is 18% less than 1.00 As 255.255.255 is white at 100% brightness and 18% of 255 is 46 , the command ATTR_diffuse_rgb 0.820 0.820 0.820 reduces the brightness of the texture (all colors) with approx 46% Thats all , I opened all OBJ files related to the fuselageparts and changed all ATTR_diffuse_rgb 0.820 0.820 0.820 values into ATTR_diffuse_rgb 1.00 1.00 1.00 I could also simply have inactivated all ATTR_diffuse_rgb commands by placing a # in front of them , # ATTR_diffuse_rgb 0.820 0.820 0.820 An ATTR_diffuse_rgb 1.00 1.00 1.00 does not change a thing so we can forget about it. Now I was able to have my bird in sparkling colors. Ohh and yesssss, the default liveries , brand new and good looking too. No need to say back-up all files first , however, its very unlikely you`ll ever want them back. See the result , the front of the fuse displays the colors exactly the way they are on the texture, the rest of the fuse the suffers the ATTR_diffuse command. ( 3d modelers should not fiddle with color-values and leave that to the texture-artists ) Second screen shows the files involved, they are in the main objects folder. Its only some minutes of work. (the # will do nicely , just search for ATTR_diffuse_rbg 0.820) Look at this all I wrote above as a general explanation of what this command is about, I you are content with the ATR the way it is , do not do a thing. My bird however will aways be a dark and dull one for you then. No need to say ALL ATR72- liveries you have will benefit this operation. Enjoy, Leen de Jager When colors look dark and dull.pdf

  10. Hi guys I've created a git repository for regional models https://github.com/tonywob/world-models Anyone wishing to contribute, please let me know and I'll add editor rights. Additionally, work to be done can be allocated here via the ticketing system. I will open some tickets in the next few days.

  11. Thanks, no that is the standard FlyJSim Q400 V2. The new version of the Dash looks really nice in X-Plane 10 and when combined with UFMC is one of the finest aircraft in X-Plane!

  13. Nice shots xpa. Is it my imagination, or have you added extra detail to the Q? I don't recall those nose panels on mine. Going to have to load mine up to see what I'm missing now.

  16. Hi, planes and sceneries that do not use plugins can be used on any system (provided there aren't problems with case of filenames); planes and sceneries with plugins are only limited to platforms for which the plugin is provided. There you are at mercy of the developer, however there are plenty of alternatives, so I personaly don't think that I'm missing anything working primarily on Linux. As for your experience with Linux, I do have a similar view of Windows - I stumbled upon several devices, that weren't supported by windows (some printers and ethernet to usb stick), that worked on Linux just by plugging it in. On the other hand, I had a network card, that required manual installation of 4 packages (you can't download anything when your network card doesn't work, right) - if I had the ethernet to usb stick back then, it would be just a matter of updating the system. I also find interesting how people praise Windows 8 for their fast boot up speed - my single core atom netbook with full Ubuntu boots up faster than a i5 notebook with Windows 8... But I might be missing something (both machines have conventional harddrives). Funny thing is, how many prophets are around here, "knowing" that Linux doesn't stand a chance. And it seems to me, that they are really frightened now... Why? First they said that Linux doesn't have chance, because of bad hardware support... Today, there is only a small portion of hardware, that doesn't support Linux. Then they said there will be no games on Linux... Now there are hundreds of them... Yes, but no AAA titles... Well, there are some already and more is in the pipe... Anyway, the point is - use whatever system you like, doing anything else would be plain stupid; just remember, that there are alternatives and the day might come, when such knowledge will come really handy (Kaspersky Live CD maybe? worked like a charm for me...). Kind regards, Michal

  17. We all have our opinions on how things are run both here and there, and I encourage folks to enjoy our hobby as best you possibly can knowing what you know as you form your own opinion. The org certainly serves a purpose, and we're happy to say that X-Pilot does as well. Luckily, you as a user have a choice on where you'd like to visit on a daily basis, be it here, there, or both (and for those of you reprimanded for any reason you at least have other places to visit - I'm in that boat too). Keeping in mind what does or doesn't bother you, please consider what would be "healthier" for you as a choice of where to spend your minutes or hours and make the best of your valuable hobby time. No doubt, we all love X-Plane, and that's a common theme between the org and X-Pilot. It's easy to get fired up over this stuff, but ultimately we should not loose sight of the fact that it's important to enjoy it and the great people in the community that do exist above all. I think, for the most part, people have said all they need to here in this thread and for that reason I'm going to close it in hopes that we can start other healthier and happier discussions about our hobby. Cheers to all!

  18. In the mood for an update on the progress of this one. It's moving along at a steady pace and things are looking very good. No ETA's on when we'll be done, but it will not take anywhere near as long as the Saab.
