I just read a thread on the forum whose-name-we-don't-mention about the new clouds system in XP10. At first I was thrilled to see news on this, and I was impressed. It resembles the idea of "procedural textures" as I know from 3D modeling and texturing.

Scrolling through something that would look like the Bible, I found a few screenshots. Is it just me or did it look like... nothing ?

Can't say I was impressed at all by the looks of it. I just hope I can use the cloud textures I bought from the XA shop!

Have you seen the images? What do you think?

The third one looks to me as if a black hole is sucking the clouds into itself while the second one seems to be someone firing bullets out of a WW2 Airplane and the smoke is due to the firing.

Those images are mostly a "technology" achievement and yet to be "art-ed" into something nice looking.  Austin, as an engineer, gets excited about technical achievement and rightfully so; however, the end result is always artistic in nature and until the final product ships, then it's hard to say what we'll actually get...clouds aren't my area...but the IDEA behind what he's doing is most definitely a huge improvement and step in the right direction even if the screen shots don't show it.

It's worth noting that the cloud detail is literally "inverted" and that the cloud detail is not tied to the camera but the airplane in those screenshots. In the final version the detail will depend on the camera location and not the airplane!

I'm looking forward to it, really. More vis WITH accurate and not "jumpy" wheather is (as long as we don't know that much about the new ATC implementation) my Top-Feature for XP10. For the planes I fly 100nm is 30min-60min flight time. It's great news :)

I'm really hoping for seasons. It's pretty silly that one has to manually change the seasons. And how about some default airport objects. And maybe directional lighting at airports.
