Graeme_77 Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 (edited) I've only recently got X-Plane 10, and the IXEG was one of the key reasons for getting X-Plane. I've not really flown flight simulators for about 10 years now, but I'm loving flying the IXEG model. I'm in the process of starting off a YouTube channel "Reflected Reality Simulations" with the intention of showing sim flying using some real-ish procedures, but with the focus on enjoying the sim rather than detail-perfect operations. My first video featuring the IXEG 737 is on YouTube now, and there's another short video called "Channel Introduction" where I try and explain the reason for another YouTube sim channel. It adds just that bit more realism to the sim. I was very interested in why you added Fixes to the FMC on takeoff at this particular location. Also very interested to see the reasons you managed speed on climbout. Fascinating stuff. Please do a few more. Quote

They are straight and to the point, with good explanations of why things are being done in the sequence they are being done. No fluff, just good information. Even better is Greame's understanding that this is a flight simulator game. Yes, it's a game, created for entertainment. It's not a procedures trainer, and it's not a level D flight simulator that will get you a type rating, it is a game. The fact that he embraces that aspect, is fantastic. He works the modeled systems in such a way that walks the fine line between real world flight operation accuracy and fun. Because, after all, fun is why we bought this aircraft. He is also very easy to listen to. His delivery is very conversational in nature. You don't feel like you're watching a training video that's been scripted to the N'th degree, instead, you feel like you have a friend giving you the straight skinny on how to fly this aircraft in a reasonably realistic manner, given the limitations of a mouse, keyboard, joystick, and 2D monitor. I think these videos are especially valuable after you already have some seat time in the 737 Classic. After you've watched a bunch of videos, and done some flying, Greame's videos will give you a pretty good road map on how to fix any bad habits you may have formed on your own. The next video should be out in a few days or so. I'm looking at covering non precision VOR and NDB approaches next, before moving on to visual circling. Since you ask, would love to see videos on doing a circuit (touch and gos as well, I guess). Another thing that seems to happen to me is making an ILS approach where the glideslope is not captured (or not working). I think this is a failure of XP or perhaps even the navigraph data, but for some reason some glideslopes simply do not work. This leaves you high, especially if you do not notice the glideslope non capture until a bit late. So any video that covers issues on approach would be welcome. Quote

Flying a circuit in a 737 is not unknown, it's how pilots new to a jet transport learn how to land the aircraft before being released to fare paying passengers. That said, it's a very specialist kind of operation so I'll have a look and see if I can find any information on how it's done on the 737. It's a great idea though, should hopefully make for an interesting video. i've never seen the glideslope fail to capture, the only thing I can think of is it won't capture the GS until after the VOR/LOC has engaged. Also, I have a vague recollection that intercepting the ILS whilst in LNAV is not a good idea on the Classic, so make sure you pick up the localiser in HDG mode, at least until you're sure you can capture it every time that way. Would you be able to show me a screenshot of the flight deck when it's failed to capture? I'll need to see the EADI, EHSI and MCP in the pic. Thanks, Graeme 1 Quote

I perhaps was not explicit enough here. The glideslope does not even become active. It has nothing to do with the MCP operation or even the plane itself, I am guessing. The problem is that you are flying along at the capture altitude as per the approach chart, but the glideslope does not move. By the time you realise this, you are way too high and panic ensures. I guess the real answer is that you should start the descent down the profile manually. Anyway, I loved your base training video. Perfect. Quote
