Shameless plug: I have a few videos on YouTube, but here's one on using the 530 with my Flight Plan Converter:
-
@jgregory, is there any documentation on how to do this? Thanks in advance.
-
Points taken. BTW, I have several 340 videos: www.youtube.com/breadwild

Yes, you could make a case for it, but chalk it up to "emersion." After all, real pilots can't save flights either. Besides, it's so much fun flipping all those switches and hearing the engines spool up.
-
You can't save flights in the Saab, in fact you can't really save flights properly in any X-Plane aircraft.
-
Sorry to be so daft, but what is this and where does it go in my file structure?

Read Chapter 22 (p81–107) in Company-Flight-Manual-Vol-2-@-R0-pgs-1-180.pdf Can be found here: https://spideroak.com/browse/share/breadwild/Saab_340A_Resources My little stash of resources for the 340. Brad

What version of the 340? I didn't see it in the log.txt. I have not fired up the Saab since upgrading to 10.45, but will try it later today when I do some flying.

@MartinJ, Yes that approach is a challenge because it takes a more varied descent than simply a constant rate of descent, I've found. The Garmin or SAAB really don't have VNAV in the sense a fully equipped FMS would offer, where descents are targeted with waypoints. As far as the glide slope working as a flight director, I'm not sure that ever going to happen in this aircraft. Something like the JAR A320 has vertical and horizontal flight director bars that show the relationship of the aircraft to the programmed flight path. I think this is what you are asking for from Jim, but if the real aircraft doesn't have the feature, I can't see it being added here. Just my opinion. It's interesting to not that KSPS doesn't have an ILS, but it really couldn't with the mountains poking out. Brad

Martin, I think the approach into 13R is even more demanding (http://imageserver.fltplan.com/merge/merge1601/Single/00545RRY13R.PDF), and I've only been able to do the descent by dialing the altitudes in manual. I've never be able to make the Garmin do VNAV in any aircraft. Brad

Groceries or the IXEG 737? Looks like I'm going hungry for a while. Amazing.

You are welcome gunner. check out some of my 340A videos on YouTube. Example:
-
gunner, It is a bit tricky at first and a bit unwieldily because of the position in the cockpit of the MSP, APA (altitude selector), the pitch-wheel (center console) ,and the EADI reading. I have a view set in my cockpit that shows all 4 at once as zoomed in as possible. 1. initial climb: set target altitude on the APA; use the low, medium, or high IAS setting by just clicking the the CLIMB button until you see the desired VS on the EADI (personally I use the 141 IAS until 10000) 2. enroute climbs: set target altitude on the APA, then press the VS button on the MSP (yellow light), rotate the pitch-wheel down (down arrow), and watching the EADI, wait until the desire vertical speed is showing and then quickly release the wheel (increase power) 3. descent: set target altitude on the APA, then press the VS button on the MSP (yellow light), rotate the pitch-wheel up (i[ arrow), and watching the EADI, wait until the desire vertical speed is showing and then quickly release the wheel (I reduce power) Make sense? If it doesn't work, chances are you forgot to set your target altitude. Brad

Duh! Thanks. Exciting.

Where can I read any updates on the Citation process. Would love to know more.

Bingo. And be sure to click "ok"

Hello, I've been searching for proper settings for normal climb and cruise. In the Charts document I see several options depending on prop setting and temperature. See the attached. I think I'm pushing the temp but I'm trying to balance with speed: 234± is all I can get at that altitude (IAS is about 172). In looking at the Cruise chart (p21), -39°, my TRQ setting for FL220 is about right, but no airspeeds are given. I've seen Prop numbers anywhere between 1230 and 1330, but I can't tell those settings are doing, other than affecting that gauge . Should the prop settings change as the climb progresses and then again at cruise? To summarize: Climb 1) TRQ, 2) Prop settings? Cruise 1) TRQ, 2) Prop settings? I'm just looking for best practices for climb and cruise. Thanks! Brad

I have found that windy or real world weather (which may have wind) causes this. Go calm if it bothers you but it shouldn't affect flight ( this why there are gust locks when parked)

IXEG 737 Progress Update - December 12th FMS VNAV
breadwild replied to tkyler's topic in General Discussion
This is going to be the most kick a** jetliner on X-Plane, and will quickly overtake the JAR A320 as the most popular 3rd party aircraft. The FMS along puts the IXEG 737 light years ahead of anything available. -
here's my checklist that works every time, for whatever it's worth. https://www.evernote.com/l/AAMM_PPjdbNP4pUITN00NzZSWK2DNnx8oCA

I had the same question nearly a year ago when I purchased the 340A: http://forums.x-pilot.com/topic/7634-occasional-unfamiliar-mechanical-whining-sound/?p=82345

This is one of my videos that shows the process of programming the Garmin 530 in the 340A. The first part, up to 4:08, shows how to plan a flight using FlightAware, and then create a .fms file for loading into the Garmin using x-planetools.com. After the 4:08 mark, the video shows how to actually program the Garmin in the airplane. Brad

Thank you JGregory! As a coder myself, I know how hunting down thos "anomalies" can be a pain.

Don't forget to click the ENT button after the Garmin warms up. Also, shameless plug for x-planetools.com flight plan converter. It will make programming the Garmin a whole lot more fun. Brad
