  1. Hmm .. I've got an AMD Radeon 7850 running the 13.1 drivers (latest stable) and it's fine .. no flashing lights. Could be the default Catalyst settings issue maybe. I have all my Catalyst 3D settings (tessalation etc) controlled by the application. Regarding NVidia I understand they're having driver issues as well currently.
  2. between 32 and 64 bit? I fire up 32 bit XP occasionally, but 64 bit has spoilt me. A much better experience all around in 64 bit (for me). I really miss some of the planes that aren't 64 bit yet, and I suspect that when the next series of HD aircraft get released the 64 bit updates of previous aircraft will be overshadowed somewhat. For the moment, the A320neo by JARDesign is one of the more complex (systemwise) of the 64 bit capable aircraft on offer in XP.
  3. Love the plane. Works well and updated to ver 1.2 There's no real manual (FCOM's don't work for me ;o)) ... but the YouTube vids are indispensable and you'll need to study this A320 resource ... Some people have issues with install, but I think it's more a case of misunderstanding the instructions ... I believe the Crew are Russian? The EDIT - Just read that you're on a low end Mac? I don't know what you're experience with it will be like considering your hardware. I use Windows 7 64 bit .. sorry! Cheers!
  4. I'm really looking forward to this plane because like a few others in the High Fidelity category, it promises an in depth approach to the aircraft's on board systems. In other words it should be flown like you'd fly the real thing ... using Real World procedures. This would then be a study sim ... and to help along with the process and to come to grips with it for myself, I think a knowledge base repository would be a good thing! I'll start with what I've found ... https://sites.google.com/site/sf340com/ - good source of info but deals mainly with the 340B You'll also find a link from the above to which seems quite useful.
  5. Execllent news Tom, Cheers
  6. Don't lose heart Femke ... X-Plane hasn't let me down yet (and my first experience with X-Plane was around 1996/97 - I believe it was XP 2 - with a hiatus until version 6) ... I was completely blown away by the 'feel' of flight and it just gets better , but a lot of it is probably mind set. When I'm feeling capable it's a breeze, other times it's a real drag ... hehe. I believe the Flight Simming hobby is best treated as a journey that evolves. It takes patience and time and occasionally one gets to experience that "perfect" flight where it all comes together. Particularly with X-Plane the highs can be fantabulous, and the lows can leave you in the doldrums. Cheers!
  7. I think it's my monitor .. it's an old resuscitated 19" monitor that was getting thrown away @ work .. guess I'll bite the bullet and get a decent one that will do justice to the rest of my rig; which considering it's not the bee's knees is still not too shabby ... lol! Hells bells I might even splurge and get myself three hehe!
  8. Many people forget that X-Plane 'stable' is actually version 9.70 ... X-Plane 10 won't be considered 'stable' until the last update prior to version 11, which will be the next major development upgrade for X-Plane. This has been the development and distribution model for as long as I know and it's a familiar development/distribution model very similar to the GNU/GPL/Free Software Linux & BSD environment. I think it's great because it allows greater involvement with the consumer ... and the underlying presumption is that eventually it will all be fixed (IMO ).
  9. That's freakishly awesome! Thanks!
  10. Thank you ... Another quality aircraft to look forward to! The fleet of impressively simulated planes for X-Plane is growing by the day; my hobby is in safe hands.
  11. Truscenery's work is impressive, however with my penny pinching to save up for Norcal, SAAB and IXEG when they come out (and the fact that I generally only fly in the USA and Australia) ... I'll be giving those scenery's a miss this time around.
  12. Actually drag to change is in a few X-Plane aircraft ... FlyJSim aircraft for example also use the drag to increase/decrease. It is IMO a much easier way to change numbers rather than laboriously clicking through digits in a moving cockpit ... exacerbated by TrackIR head movement! Rollon planes are superb! If you're into in-depth believable simulation then he is a top notch designer .... I love the Jetstream 32, it grows on you as you become more familiar with it's complexities and become more experienced with this aircraft. You do have to read the manual though to get the most out of this airplane ... there are no shortcuts I'm afraid. Re your question, you have to unlock the controls. To do this ... read the manual! It's very readable and not intimidating at all. Cheers! P.S> I'd also recommend that you watch Javier's YouTube video of startup procedures. There's another set of videos by James Gillies that are also very helpful ... (just do a search on youtube for "X-Plane Bae Jetstream 32 Interactive Checklists - Aircraft Acceptance to Takeoff").
  13. Unfortunately there seems to be no move to get the GNS 430 Garmin XP 64 bit compatible. I have that piece of software and found it a tremendous piece of kit ... but all my flying is now 64 bit. I've emailed the folks who program the software a couple of times but have received no response to date. These folks appear to be firmly orientated towards FSX and P3D ... I'd be pleasantly surprised if they decided to concentrate on X-Plane for a while!
  14. I'd like to add my thanks to the chorus! THANKS!
  15. When you get the 'two rounded peaks' keep holding the mouse button down and drag left to decrease or drag right to increase the numbers. Cheers!
  16. Aircraft I've piloted in RL? None, unless you count the couple of times I've been up with an instructor (too expensive and there's no flippin' PAUSE button!). Aircraft I've flown in as baggage in RL .. well there's the Kiowa, Iriquois (Huey), CH-47 Chinook, UH-60 Blackhawk, GAF Nomad, Pilatus Porter, Caribou, C-130 Hercules, MD500, Cessna 172, Piper Tomahawk, DC-3, Boeing 707, Boeing 727, Boeing 737 & Airbus A320. Aircraft I've sat in for a thrill include the Mirage III, Macchi Jet, Avon Sabre, Spitfire Mark V and an F-111 display cockpit capsule.
  17. Really looking forward to the release of World Traffic! That's very cool!
  18. Looks like Central Queensland out past St. George and the Surat oil basin ...
  19. Yes I've heard of the exaggeration of torque in XP ... however I'm quite easily able to fly hands off as long as I trim properly since I've used the Saitek X52 Pro setup I have. With my old F22 Pro Thrustmuster setup I used to have nothing but pain ... and was forever cleaning pots to try to eliminate spiking and just to hold calibration .
  20. Thank goodness for that Ben! It's sort of scary to think that your valuable contribution to the enrichment of X-Plane could be eradicated by a single whim of the universe if it decides your hdd should be no more. Not making any guesses about the state of your laptop ... just observing that any hard drive failure is often catastrophic and in my experience not that uncommon (from a lowly tech support perspective) ... here's hoping that you have backups ... and not to forget your good self, I hope that you stay safe and healthy until we have product resolution ... sounds heartless I know lol!
  21. Woohoo! Guess I'll be 'migrating' to Californee-i-a in the not too distant future. I really hope that you guys do some of the Australian states one day soon.
  22. Hey Chuck not quite (sorry if I'm not explaining this very well!). From my understanding, Windows will write something to the registry as soon as it detects new hardware or a new device. So to configure a joystick for X-Plane in Windows (I'm using Win 7 in this instance) this is what I'd do ... First run the utility that you downloaded previously (the one I provided the link to) - this resets any previous settings to zero. the you must calibrate your joystick using Windows joystick calibration (not optional). With Saitek, the link to that utility is in the menu of the X52 Saitek Flight Control System Software and it's called Control Panel ... the Saitek Joystick icon in your Systems tray if you've installed it correctly. For all joysticks, Windows 7 calibration can also be accessed via "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers" and then right click to get the menu and click on Game Controller Settings and it opens another dialogue box where you need to click on the Properties button .. it gets you to the same place as using the Saitek option. and finally you must calibrate the joystick via X-Plane calibration menu (also not optional). Notice that one of the buttons in the menu is to use current position as 'center'. That's because any software that uses joystick functionality (like X-Plane) needs a starting position and will use what the joystick thinks is calibrated position xy (0,0); which is from values it has previously stored in the registry. If the settings in the registry are skewed for any reason (i.e. not working from an optimal position for 0,0); then any other software that tries to assign new calibrations based on a 'defective' registry calibration won't work terribly well as the offset from true 0,0 becomes compounded. Note that the utility that you downloaded scrubs the registry settings for joystick axis so that you don't have any compounding deviations to the axis that can happen over time (it's a very handy utility!). It's worked in my case ... so I hope that helps!
  23. Well ... at least you'd get a day off! hehe
  24. Stop slackening off there Goran, we need that SAAB ... I think it's time to implement an 8 day week!?
