WarpeD Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 I do see some elements of the clouds, particularly towards the top of the cloud, that are screaming "billboard" to me. Very detectable. The backside of clouds in shadow still have that solid smokey appearance that has plagued clouds of any sort in XP10 from the beginning. That's going to be a hard thing to overcome, I think. I do think this is an incredibly lovely system, nonetheless. Just offering up my own small contribution to the cause....trying to be constructive. Quote

It's almost kind of... trying to phrase this nicely here.... boring(?) after a few flights seeing the same high level clouds. Maybe there is some way to include more textures and to also make them more random? Don't get me wrong, I love this product and it's a huge improvement! I'm just trying to include some constructive criticism. Metars do include info about these types of clouds, correct? Thanks, John! Quote

Thanks, John!Right now we dont have any plans to include more options in the ui but users can create thier own pretty easily and replace the default cirrus layers..... Quote

I'd be curious to know how Skymaxx decides when to display them, if using x-plane real weather, which seems to ignore 'TCU' codes in metars - probably because x-plane cloud engine can't deal with them ? I'd be curious to know how Skymaxx decides when to display them We do the best we can with the information X-Plane gives us, which is just a single value indicating how "thunderstormy" it is around the plane. SkyMaxx Pro represents these types of conditions with a mixture of three different cloud types: - Cumulus congestus clouds, which make up most of the clouds in SkyMaxx Pro. - "Towering cumulus" clouds, which are basically really really big and tall cumulus congestus clouds, in the process of forming into cumulonimbus thunderheads. If storms are present, we throw in a few of these around the plane. These are new types of clouds In SkyMaxx Pro 2. - Cumulonimbus clouds - these are the anvil-shaped "thunderheads" that create lightning effects. We pepper a few around the plane, the number of them being determined by X-Plane's measure of local storminess. Cumulonimbus clouds existed in SkyMaxx Pro 1, but we made them bigger and better lit for SkyMaxx Pro 2. Edited July 18, 2014 by sundog 3 Quote
