I would not willingly pay for this. Certainly a lot of effort went into this project, and I assume the frame-rates should be good. I am guessing that it looks a lot better from 5k feet up, but then there are the different coloring between the tiles that do not match up. As was said before, 3D modelling is good, let down by downright horrible textures in a lot of places. Not a good showcase of what X-Plane can do, and definitely not something that will get people to desert FSX/FS9 anytime soon. The vision for this scenery was probably good, but the execution not so much. It is salvageable with a serious rework of the textures. Ola, we are waiting for you to set the benchmark!

Very informative feedback in this thread and should belong any X-Plane wiki. To summarize what has been said, developing aircraft for X-Plane is a "garbage in- garbage out" affair. This has given X-Plane a bad reputation in some circles as many people believe that X-Plane just gets it wrong. As one can see from above that is far from the truth. The smoking gun is Planemaker, and I am not criticizing it. Quite the opposite, Planemaker is relatively easy to use for newcomers and it is not difficult at all to produce an aircraft that looks like the real thing and get it to fly. Having used MS Flightsim for many years up till this day I still don't know how to get a model flying. Back when I bought X-Plane 5.40 it wasn't a week before I started fiddling around in Planemaker and making changes to aircraft to see how they react. However, as some of the great developers on this thread have noted, it takes more to get that aircraft to fly like it does in real life. I have a project that I have been starting and stopping over the past 5 years because I can't make the investment in time to get to learn the intricacies of flight modelling, and a bunch of other things. I take my hat off to those that persevere and make it happen. There are thousands of Swiss army knives out there, but not that many McGuyvers

That looks great Javier, thank you very much for the preview! A lot of effort went into this, and the dynamic cockpit shadow from XP10 gives it that lively touch! One can almost feel the warmth on those seats... :-*

I see at SimHQ someone is working on a hi-res mod for SAR4, and it is about to go live sometime soon. Take On Helo's is done by one of my favorite studios of all time, Bohemia Interactive, and builds on their existing technology that is probably older than 10 years now. Their helicopters in Arma and Arma II was always a blast to fly (simplified model and all), but does offer chopper newbies a great learning platform to achieve synergy between rudder, collective and cyclic without suffering the wrath of vrs etc etc. Not to be compared with Black Shark, the flight model will probably pass for a good one, without too much systems modeling and focusing more on gameplay (without going Ace Combat or HAWX). Nothing beats the feeling of playing Arma II Arrowhead online with a squad a guys in the back, dropping them off in a hot lz, and then returning to base to patch the holes and pick up the next squad.

Excellent! Any clues as to what these are? It think the key-phrase that Cameron used here is "privvy to". Now where is that troll emoticon...

Mid7night, I think it is great that you replied to the posts here, and I never viewed it as needed "defending". There is sometimes a disjoint between what a developer has in mind, and how it is marketed by someone else with a an entirely different set of KPI's. In this case, the screenshots and development previews showed us what to expect visually, and some of the beta testers gave a heads up on the handling. The only grey area before the sale was the cockpit itself and systems. I like the idea where manuals or portions thereof are made available before an aircraft purchase to show people what they are getting. I decided not to get the latest Carenado offering due to a lack of information on the autopilot (if there is one or not). I love hand flying, but not when doing long x-country. I was happy to see yours had one, although it was difficult to know beforehand. I still don't know what that radar is supposed to do, but I like to flip the lid up and down I am thoroughly enjoying this aircraft (I love military aviation), and if you keep this up I will probably lap up everything else you sell. If you get someone to add more bells & whistles in the visuals department I would easily pay a lot more for it.

I was very excited when I first saw Ben's screenshots of the moving map tests in the Cirrus Jet, and very pleased that it made it into this aircraft as a free update. Excellent work, and thank you very much!

I took the plunge and bought it as I love modern military aircraft for X-Plane with bells and whistles. Although a lot of effort went into this model and the 3D cockpit, the cockpit itself feels a bit sterile and it detracts somewhat from the experience. It flies well, and there are a few things I would like to read up on before I comment on the ACF itself. With low energy elevator authority suffers substantially, and with full fuel one will need to exert a reasonable amount of G's pulling up through the vertical to make a full loop. On my first try with full internal and external fuel I lost authority whilst pointing straight up, and performed an "accidental tailslide" in the process with the nose falling back forward during the stall : Maybe some more detailing of the 3D cockpit would make it much more attractive. I am enjoying it so far and do not regret my purchase, and with a bit more development in that area it could join my list of favourites. Once we get dynamic shadows in the cockpit (perhaps in X-Plane 10), this plane will shine even more.

It definitely looks great. Does anyone know whether this one has an autopilot? I see a circuit breaker for it in the screenshots, but cannot see a panel or buttons for it. I hope the new C210 Carenado is working on makes it to X-Plane as well.

Good feedback, thanks guys (Sorry for the slight hijack of your post here ncc1701e). Can one disable the replay controls at the top of the screen so that they don't to show up when doing captures (during a replay of course)?

I experience this sometimes when loading different aircraft in one session where some used plugins for system modelling. Best is to load up a default aircraft like the C172, quit X-Plane, restart X-Plane and then load the aircraft you want to fly. That way no "uncollected garbage" will be present that can interfere with a session.

I can also recommend Fraps highly. Looking at a lot of the X-Plane videos out there, I often wonder which techniques have been used in game to make to get the shots. Are there view plugins involved, how is panning/camera movement done smoothly etc?

3D trees? I enjoy watching you work Ola. Looking forward to fly into one of your airports one day.

I like it Ben, and the big plus (don't know if it is because it's not linked to any real data yet) is it feels really fast. The GUI is straightforward and intuitive. Seeing that we have a lot of old people here (cough... ) keeping it simple is the best way to go.

Thanks for that Simon! Mine is not even close to that in Western Australia. Previous house was closer to exchange - here I'm getting 6 down, and less than 1 up... I'll go halfies on the $43 billion with you

Update of the Mentor. 1.1 version. List of changes done.
Warmbrak replied to Japo32's topic in Beechcraft T34C Mentor
I think a lot of people are very excited with your new 747 on the way, and your videos are always something to look forward to. I keep checking back every day for that Mentor update. Loved the original release, and the update sounds great. Best of luck. -
That is looking very pretty mate, well done!

Interesting move Ola - you have a lot of creative talent, and I can understand that priorities change. Should be interesting to fly with one's left thumb on that thing. I had a profile on my Thrustmaster Cougar once for Falcon 4 where I could transfer joystick axis control from the joystick (on the go) to the thumb mouse controller on the throttle. This was helpful to gain better resolution when designating targets on the MFD's. So you select this mode, and suddenly you fly the jet with this small thumb controlled joystick while the big one moves the cursor. Took some getting used to. Now you can fly with your left hand and drink coffee with the right at the same time!

I just stumbled on this blog with screenshots from the upcoming PMDG 737NGX for FSX. These guys are something else... http://www.flyaoamedia.com/blog/737/that-is-flight-sim-nooooo-way/ http://www.flyaoamedia.com/blog/737/737ngx-virtual-cockpit-screenshot/

Notice of deadline for submitting Airport Layouts
Warmbrak replied to garrettm30's topic in Scenery Development
I would recommend sending it in any case - there may still be an opportunity for them to incorporate it. -
And a good explanation of the current situation by Ben right here: http://xplanescenery.blogspot.com/2010/10/no-one-has-all-of-x-plane-10.html

A woman needs a man, like a fish needs a bicycle. Makes sense? No. That is the world of what is probably pre-alpha screenshots. It appears that Austin and the fellowship of the ring is currently working hard on testing features/methods/algorithms etc etc to see which of them will make it into v10.0. Have a look at one of Ben's recent blogs: http://xplanescenery.blogspot.com/2010/10/tuning-rasterizer.html. This gives one the impression they are tweaking their "farm" to build the latest run of dsf's, and is probably why all the "flatten" polygon information is due in 3 days' time. So when experimenting they will use the v9 system where it is feasible to test out new features, and that will invariably include the old textures. I think as soon as the new dsf's have been farmed/baked/conjured, the screenshots will look a lot different. Then would be a good time to shoot textures down if it still looks the same, as in its current state (with still predominantly v9 based scenery system) it does not make sense. Patience is a virtue. I am sure Cameron, Tom and Javier can explain this in a much more intelligent way, but that is the basic gist of it. It will look better. They are refining their programmatic approach to prevent trees from crossing the road when we are watching. Just watch out for the birds and deer - maybe we'll gets crocs, gators & sharks for water planes this time?

Very nice - are those REX clouds?

Does Matthew have a valid point? Yes, he has made it known and is now overstating it. Will the bump bother many people? Probably yes. Is it worthwhile fixing? Maybe not. I congratulate Javier with what he has achieved in such a short space of time. Even though it would be first prize to fix it, I wouldn't respect Javier any less if he didn't. Please don't use this karma tool as a bullying mechanism when people disagree. I would like to make a suggestion to the mods to remove this system entirely.
