You obviously have a lot of questions about flight operations, techniques and learning about the 737 - which is fine. Then the perfect forum for you is here; http://forums.x-pilot.com/forums/forum/198-flight-procedures-and-techniques/ If you want "conversation", this is also fine, but then start a topic with an appropriate title that reflects this! These pinned topics are for extra IMPORTANT information relevant to thousands of users that not necessarily want to scroll through a lot of OFF TOPIC "conversation". Also if you wan't good answers to your questions by the team and others, it is easier for us to keep track if they are located in an appropriate area. Without having to scroll through multiple pages of non relevant stuff. Also it will be easier for others to find answers to questions if you make seperate topics for different issues in the appropriate area, and we don't have to answer the same questions all the time. It is also easier for the users to read topics that are of interest to them and avoid the ones that are not. Example, if you in the little search box on the top right type in "standby altimeter" the answers to your latest question will be right in front of you. So this is not about military rules, we gave you a lot of slack in this topic already. It is about having an efficient forum that is easy to find relevant information for the users, easy for the support team to navigate and find things and easier for you to find answers to questions so you maybe don't need to ask them. But it is off course *possible* to have everything in this forum in just one topic, but it is a very bad idea from both a user and support perspective. Now lets move on.

Just to clarify a bit more as this is a bit confusing to many. The new downwash model and other new planemaker stuff inn XP v11.10 is OPTIONAL for the designer (atleast for the time being). This is something new that I cannot remember Austin did before. The reason is that LR does not want to "break" any aircraft as always happened before in a new version. What this means is that many designers *probably* will not update their aircraft for a while, since the aircraft will need a recalibration, updated airfoils etc. so you will be flying with "old" model on those. But sooner or later those will have to be converted to take advantage of new stuff and Austin probably will soon get tired of maintaining "two" flight models. However, we at IXEG have already converted so you will be flying the new model as of IXEG v1.21 (and old model on current v1.2), Hope that makes sense.

Beta 4 was way off, Jan probably assumed you were on beta 5 which has the updated downwash and should work "ok" unless you tamper in planemaker. more info here M

OK. time for a heads up. I'll start by quoting myself from almost a year ago; So, things are developing as we expected Those of you that are following the 11.10 beta know that Austin now has implemented DOWNWASH. Downwash is simply put air that is deflected downwards behind the wing and is one of the factors that produce lift. So behind the wing, the air flows at a downwards angle. HOWEVER, the downwash area is not just limited to the area just behind and above the wing, and I bet most of you do not know the magnitude and forces that are in play. Have a look at this photo (Below) I took a while back. You can see (on the very dirty A321) how the air moves around the wing, puts things in perspective. Upwash (in front) and downwash (behind). So if you thought the air just rushes by your passenger window horizontally, you were wrong. As you can see, the direction of the air even far above and away from the wing is not horizontal. This downwash area also extends all the way back to the tail and (can) hit the horizontal stabilizer. And this is where things get complicated. The downwash hitting the tail will cause an UP pitching moment. How much depends on the aircraft geometry. An aircraft with a high tail like an MD80 will hardly notice this, while a 737 will notice some even though the tail is 2-3 meters above the wing. So this affects normal flight. ALSO, when an aircraft is landing, it enters what we call ground effect (GE). Many believe GE is one effect, but there are atleast 3 that we need to take into account. One of them is affected by downwash and change in pitching moment. When an aircraft approaches ground (less than 1 span) altitude, the downwash angle will get more shallow. This causes less downforce on the tail and you will get a nose DOWN tendency which will affect your landing. Also, it will affect your takeoff where the opposite happens. This is very complex stuff to put it mildly. So what is going on right now? We are working with Austin providing documentation and tests to get the magnitude of these effects right. It also means that we will need to recalibrate the 737 to get it back to where it was. The good news is that Austin now has implemented the designers need to save the aircraft for the new effects to take effect. In other words the 737 will perform as expected until we release an update with the recalibration. So nothing for you guy's to worry about. We do NOT recommend you open the aircraft and save it yourself. Most likely you will be out of trim in cruise and overpitch on takeoff etc. M

Just to correct myself, aircraft with high tail, like an MD80, will hardly see a pitch down change because their horizontal stabilizer is not flying directly in the wing downwash.. M

I have dusted off my Ground effect documentation so we are prepared should the end result of 11.10 be bad. To early at this point. Not the first time, like FSX/P3D (still), Austin had it all wrong many years ago but we got it "right" eventually

Austin is obviously still experimenting with the ground effect, affects all aircraft. At this point report your observations to LR.

Sounds like you may have been too heavy for FL360. 20T of fuel is a lot, what was your total weight?

Yea, thats a known replay thing. Not sure if it is possible to fix, but the programmers are aware of it.

You need to narrow it down. You have a tonn of plugins and scenery that might conflict in some way. Try disabling all of them except the 737 and see what happens. As you have just discovered, trying early beta's is risky in itself, and if you also fill it up with all sorts plugins and scenery it is russian roulette.... If things that used to work in 11.05 and suddenly don't in 11.10B, then everything should get reported to LR, thats the whole purpose of the beta.

Looking at some FDR data, and it is not uncommon to see 5000+ fpm for a short period of a few secs right after starting the descent at TOC in FLCH. 6000+ is a bit high though..

Right, and from an IXEG point of view, please don't flood us with bugreports from using early betas. Most likely it is LR that has broken something temporary, so report to them.

Right, what happened was you ran out of thrust because your commanded climb-rate was too high for the altitude (wrong AP mode). This leads to high AoA, which leads to more drag, IAS decreases and you end in a stall. The higher you fly and closer to max altitude for the current weight, the less margin you have for airspeed to drop and you just don't have the thrust to recover. A bit like AF447.

XP10 used to have a null zone in the joystick settings, it does not anymore in Xp11. However there is a fix You need to alter the _joystick.prf file manually, takes only a couple of minutes and you joystick twist should center again https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/118533-xp11-joystick-null-zone-fix/
