It probably would have been fast enough if he had not gone crazy by using 1.5 million polygons in the first place, and he actually advertises it as if it were a feature to show everyone "how good this plane is" when infact it's a framerate hog.... If his manuals really are 125 pages long then what does he fill it with? If it doesn't have a complete FMS, the heart of a modern airliner, then what else is there to write about, really?

I think I'll pass... $65 are pretty expensive when you don't get a realistic 3D pit or a complete FMS. The exterior model looks very smooth but not very detailed, and can't be very efficient with 1.5 million polygons, and you'd expect some amazing detail with all those polygons, and there are none. Even the textures look horrible and unfinished, and where are the normal maps? I had high hopes for this aircraft but I won't be buying it afterall... This aircraft described with one word is overpriced, and normally $65 or for that matter a hundred bucks wouldn't put me off if this was as detailed as the CRJ-200, but this one is not worth more than $10-15 tops!

Yes getting UV maps and texturing right can be a PITA to be honest... but if I could do it anybody can

What are those "spears" on the wing tips good for? (too late...) Can't wait to see it textured, stunning work Goran!

That's kind of you Simon, but the more I look at it the more I want rip it apart and start all over. I'm sure it can be done better than this, and if I had time for it, I probably would... Right now I've a hard enough time getting my next scenery out the door, let alone doing a take two of this one... : Btw, have you made any progress lately with your own scenery?

OMG, this is increadible! Austin is going to be in such a big debt to you when this baby drives sales of new copies of X-Plane through the roof when all those MSFS users come flocking over to check out this awesome aircraft! ;D Btw, what kind of nav-data source will the FMS require?

I'm so glad someone is doing a real jumbo with all these smaller jets coming our way, to balance things out a bit. The 742 makes for the perfect entree, the only question left on my mind is; "what's for desert"? ;D Looks great btw

That's a great idea, but I'm just wondering if I should wait until a new revised one comes out that targets the new version and its new GUI...? Do you know if what the book teaches you can be applied to the new version, or will it just confuse things further? So far I've gotten by by using SketchUp and AC3D, but I'm really interesting in some of the new techniques such as texture baking and more advanced UV-tools, and this is where both AC3D and SketchUp fall short... A lot of time goes into manually painting on shadow effects and it would be cool to add some subtle static reflections in windows, metal or whatever...

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but you pretty much summed up why I haven't been able to grasp blender yet... But after having played with the new version for five minutes I've gotten a lot further in understanding the new GUI and tool set than ever before; the old one unfortunately did not make any sense to me...

You've outdone yourself once again Javier, I'm stunned, and lost for words. Must admit I got a bit sentimental watching this video One thing is for sure, and that is that you and Anton has done it justice in about every aspect possible!!!

Very nice model, hoping to be flying this livery soon..?

Looking to purchase X-Plane and working with a Mac...any advise...

So far there's just been a proof of concept plugin developed that you'll have to build yourself from source code. I can confirm that it works on OS X Leopard with TrackIR 4 pretty good! It's not ready for mainstream though, and if building your own plugin intimidates you then you'll have to be a bit more patient while Michal and the rest of the developers get around to releasing a public beta. You can read more in this thread over at the .org. -
I think you're right shizumaat, it does look a bit off when you mention it... The Delta paint scheme looks great!
-
Wow, you're quick! Awesome paints ;D

You forgot to mention the cost of subscribing to anti virus software, that definitely eat up that savings over the computers lifetime, not to mention all the headaches and frustration Windows normally give you from an unstable buggy system, and the lack of awesome software that comes free when you buy a mac, similar software on Windows will cost you hundreds of dollars. In other words you won't save a damn cent! Now that TrackIR has been proved to work with the Mac, I see no reason whatsoever ever running Windows again, thank God! ;D -
Last I heard from Peter, over 1 million How many is too much? Too bad Peter's aircrafts don't have 3D pits...
-
Love the update, found a tiny bug though... Turning the large nav frequency selector/wheel to the left increases the value instead of decreasing it. Probably mapped to the wrong manipulator...?
-
That's awesome! ;D Can't wait to take her for a spin...
-
Damn fine model ...I can't find any info on it, but will there be an equally detailed 3D pit?
-
WOW, that's pretty exciting news. ;D Sure would love a detailed "heavy" in every aspect, GAs doesn't do it for me and the scenery is not detailed enough for sightseeing so being able to take a commercial jet to the skies is something I have missed in X-Plane for a while. Of course there are a few great models around, but it seems people have a hard time keeping their models up to date with the latest version, or are simply working on much more advanced models that take longer. So this will definitely fill a void in the heavies department, and the A320 is good candidate in my book!
-
Pretty exciting news indeed. Good on ya!

Excellent fun little airplane, I'm really enjoying it immensely! Well worth the dineros. ;D ...didn't expect landing on water would be this challenging though, looks like I need some serious practice...

I can't speak for Javier on this, but, from my own experience in scenery design I can tell you that a hell of a lot of research goes into designing an airport well... For starters you need a bunch of pictures of every building, something that you won't find a lot of on the net. There's a lot of spotters out there, but few seem to care about anything but airplanes... Go figure Access to the airport is often difficult in its own, making it nearly impossible to get good shots of important facades that will be visible to the pilot sitting on the tarmac. This might be easier at smaller airfields but I highly doubt any of the ones you're referring to will let you inside the perimeter. Not to mention actually getting there in the first place, and the cost involved in doing so... There are numerous airports made for X-Plane available already, but if you buy some of the high quality MSFS sceneries you can use a converter called FS2XPlane to convert them into the X-Plane format, with varying results. But if Javier would decide to make an airport, I'm sure he would be more than capable. He's a real artist, and buildings are mostly simple boxes with textures attached
