  1. Yup, as I said, I think it's due to all the buildings. I can only imagine how it all is programmed and handled, but I think there's very little difference between an older GPU vs. the ones we've got.
  2. Here's the results. I actually forgot to lower the number of objects (essentially buildings along the streets), but it was a notable improvement the few things I adjusted. Here's your settings, as mentioned in your post above. Here's what that looks like And here's my settings based on yours, which I think will give you a better experience. I highlighted what I adjusted. This looks like... Um... For some reason the forum is scaling down the images, so you don't notice the aliased edges all over the place with your settings. Note the frame rate counter in the lower left corner. I use fraps for stills and video from games and X-Plane, and made the FPS counter show up in the stills for this test.
  3. I have a GTX 680 4GB. I get variable frame rates depending on the scene. I think, somehow, that the objects and such are being processed by the processor. Thus, adding a kick ass GPU won't boost as much as GPUs did just a few years ago. Texture size and amount of different textures loaded due to objects will need more VRAM, but going up to 4GB is overkill for X-Plane, I think. For heavy lifting where the GPU is utilized better on the other hand... I have no problem filling up the VRAM while doing fluid simulations for instance.
  4. Looking at your settings, I think you should adjust the following to a lower setting. Take it back a notch or two. - Number of trees - Number of objects - Number of roads (might not be the biggest performance hit, but see what it does) - World Detail Distance - Set shadows to 3D on plane only And since you're in HDR mode, you can easily add the first or second level of antialiasing. It shouldn't do much harm to your FPS. Besides, I find different planes give very different frame rates as well. Going from a Carenado plane to the default planes make a huge difference. Or the CRJ or any other high quality payware plane.
  5. Michael, did you ever use iCloud? And did you activate "Find my Mac"? If so, jump over to icloud.com and check where it is, alert the police about it and run down that door! You can even lock the computer so it's a brick unless you open it again with your specific password you chose at the moment, through icloud.com !
  6. Just purchased it. Looking forward to install it later tonight. But a little concerned after what Cameron said.
  7. Screenshot from a little flight around the block. (ouch! the compression makes it look worse than it is!)
  8. This looks sexy. I'm buying it.
  9. Hawk, maybe we should write Laminar an email.
  10. Ben, what we wanted is for X-Plane to read fbx files. Would be a huge request, absolutely. And I bet it won't ever happen..
  11. Wow! €30 for an export plugin like that would be awesome. I asked a dev to make a plugin for LW3D, and that would export the model. That's it. No lights, no animation, no option to make certain parts hard. No Z buffer settings. Object only! And he wanted $600 for that alone. I'd do it if it had more options. For the future, maybe we should ask for X-Plane to support FBX ? I'm not saying it will be easy or even possible. I'm just dreaming wildly here. FBX can be exported from so many apps!
  12. Go with the tools you know. As the others say, you need to go through Blender or AC3D at some point. I'm a LightWave 3D user myself, and would love to have a plug-in to export for X-Plane, with animation and all. That would be insanely cool. But I gotta stick to Blender for export. Can't stand that app..
  13. I started with Sim City 2000 in the 90's, on my uncles PC. So I was keen to go visit him a lot. I didn't quite understand it all, because I was so young, but it's been one of those games I've always had installed, along with Settlers. If you head over to their website, you can apply to be a beta tester. I did it months ago, crossing fingers there's a beta coming soon so we can check it, and give feedback on what's good and bad.
  14. Some of you might already know it, others might not even care. Sim City is coming in 2013. There have been harsh criticism on the EA and Maxis forums about lacking information about how it will be in-game. Interviews with sound engineers and producers haven't been all that interesting for the community. Many have asked for an in-game video of what the game looks and feels like. Yesterday, they uploaded a video. And I'm nothing but impressed. It looks intuitive, informative, and plain awesome. The interface is slick and sexy, the overlay info graphics are a great way to show what's going on.
  15. But adjusting the global files wouldn't really work for everyone. And all other airports would look.... different.
  16. "Train Fever" might come out in 2014. I accidentally came across this website for an upcoming game. That is, if it hits the funding they're looking for. It's one of those crowd sourcing kind of projects. But boy does it look promising!! I love games like this. Can't think of any better games to play single player, really. "What about X-Plane!?"... It's not really a game, is it? This game is about making train connections between cities, and probably industries. You start out in 1850's. Here's a direct link to their trailer. http://www.train-fev.../media/trailer/
  17. Looks great! That airport would be awesome with the buildings in place!
  18. So, are the latest screenshot from in the simulator, or renderings?
  19. Wish I had more free time too. Would love to be done soon. Keep it up!
  20. Good! Getting better by the day.
  21. Been a little while, but I spent a couple hours today. This time, the tower was blocked out and got a few details. There's a shed next to it, and I need to add a few more details, then it's done and ready for texturing.
  22. For the heck of it, I've started working on some WED stuff on a relatively small airport, yet it's taking on B737's. Taxiing is done on the runway and in the end of it, there's an area to turn around. This is marked by a center line. I tried to make ATC taxi routes to follow the center line, but every single AI plane makes the turn a long way before they hit this area. It looks really stupid, because they start to go outside of the runway. I wonder how I can fix this and make them taxi the right way.
  23. If I may...I believe I was among the very first who purchased the plane, x-mas back in.. When was it? 2008? 2009? The update announced to be released 2012 Q1 thrilled me. The newsletter about it was great, and I had high hopes for it both for existing customers and new. Then there was this sudden silence, tons of questions and accusations. I wonder if there should be a new newsletter. A "sorry for not doing as we promised" letter. A newsletter where you inform all of those who's not on these forums. Those who's not keeping themselves updated about this very topic.
