Record the flight and fly next to yourself ?

I had a plug-in in MSFS9 where I could record a flight, and then play back in order to try and fly in formation with myself. I made a video using this plug-in too.

Wonder if there's something similar for X-Plane, or if it's even possible to make for X-Plane. It would make it interesting to make spectacular videos!!

yep, xt is pretty good, as a vid maker I use it quite a bit, however it has one unfortunate flaw- when you get close to your recording, you often get horrible jerky movements when flying, something to do with turbulence I think. best smooth replays come when in ai formation, like this:

Thanks Indi, that was an oldie but yes, I loved watching it again too! I forget what I do sometimes.

I'll get around to doing the duchess justice when I'm in the mood. I got into a rut with the vids, so a scenery making diversion was just in time. I have a BIG new idea I've come up with, so itll be worth the wait.

I must be doing something wrong. I recorded two fligts. when I tried to play either one, there's no planes appearing. I can see the frame count do its thing, but no planes are visible.

OMG, xtraffic can be a pain. I find plugins

used for vatsim interfere, so try disabling them to show the replay. of course RTFM applies. make sure you see the frame counter moving so you know it's playing.

Yup. Frame counter is moving both on record and playback. I don't fly on VATSIM or any similar.

The big question is: should I be embarrassed that I spotted it?

The reason it didn't work was becauase I didn't go into Aircraft and Situations. My mistake. :-)

Well.. Even though I did go into there (the number was set at 9) I increased it to 10. Nothing happened. No airplane is showing up.  :-\ I'm out of ideas..

So I found this video...

And there's a screen... My Aircraft and Situations don't look anything like that. The lower part at my screen is totally blank. I can set number of aircraft 1-20, and I can assign one of four teams. But there's nothing else. What the heck is wrong?

Bother. start simply, try just getting one plane to show up before u do 10. try disabling every darned plugin other than xtraffic?

I had recorded ONE plane. And then I went into the Aircraft and Situations settings, the number was already set at 9. The instructions at Sandy Barbours site said I should set this to "one more than the number of planes" I want to use with the plugin.

I'll move all plug-ins except xtraffic, see if it does wonders. But then again, what's the reason if I can't use the Saitek plugin, or GPS, or FOV-loader..

Reason?to narrow down the cause. If that doesn't, you've done everything right and I give up! over to the techos/Sandy

I removed everything except XTraffic. Still nothing. I can see the number, but no actual geometry, lights, nothing to indicate there's someone else near me.

In the end I did a complete re-install. God only knows what I had messed up before I did so. It works now, even though a bit stuttering when I'm close to the helicopters or planes.

Great news Ola, what a pain. Yes, it does stutter when you are close or (I think) when you disturb the airflow. And it doesn't seem consistent, sometimes its real smooth, othertimes not...
