OlaHaldor Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 First in-sim snapshots. What do you think? I'm surprised it worked out so well with so little effort. I'll probably paint in some roads leading to the different areas though. And a parking lot.. Next: building some fences, I think. Quote
Simmo W Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 yep, heaps better, it's easy eh! hrs to build a hangar and minutes to texture 5 square kms! about to post a game-changing tech I've just played.. Quote
StevenM Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 ...What do you think? You're a master of image clipping ;DIt looks definitely better than before, may you should repaint the underlaying ground texture by hand so it better blends with the surroundings and objects? Also, adding grass around the runways is always a nice feature I saw in FSX and also try to soften the edges of all the runways so things get really "grounded" in their surroundings if you understand what I mean? Guest iannik Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 great job!!!!!!Any new screen? Quote
OlaHaldor Posted September 6, 2010 Author Report Posted September 6, 2010 Thanks, Iannik! Unfortunately, no. I've been busy working with things I know will pay the bills through the weekend, and have loads more coming this week. Time will show. Quote
Kaphias Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Why not do as I'll be doing, include that 2048 screenshot as a draped poly in your scenery?Because using Google's imagery is against their terms of usage. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted September 6, 2010 Author Report Posted September 6, 2010 The one I made is based on Google Earth as a test, to see if I could pull it off. It certainly helps on the impression! However, the original resolution is not ideal, and as Kaphias states, it's against Googles terms of use.I've initiated contact with another service that will bring me better tools for measurement and image quality - thus adds the possibility to make ground textures in very high quality.I'm not sure about the pricing for this yet - things are going a bit slow on their end...Worst case scenario: I use GE as a reference and hand paint textures according to the image. Quote
Simmo W Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 yes, hand painting or other forms of referencing seem to be our last resort. Particularly if u are to sell it. there must be heaps of aerial mapping services out there. Also, what are the restrictions for Bing or Yahoo? Quote
OlaHaldor Posted September 7, 2010 Author Report Posted September 7, 2010 I got the demo of their ortho photo system today. To my disappointment, it's identical to what they use on Bing Maps. So I guess Bing has bought royalties or something... I think the images are too grainy and just not worth the price, whatever it is.. Quote
Warmbrak Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Excellent, and very inspiring work OlaHaldor! Are you using WED 1.1 Beta to place the orthophoto? I am experimenting with Nearmap.com's ortho's for freeware scenery, as their public license is very generous. They also provide a great tool called Hypertiles that will download tiles from their servers, and allows one to export tiles in predefined sizes and resolutions.I have tried to create an overlay with one of these tiles in WED, but it shrinks my images. Is this the same way you create yours? I am really impressed with your efforts here, and look forward to seeing what you come up with. I especially like the custom texture on the runway, as the default X-Plane runway textures have a very "synthetic" look to it.Best of luck! Quote
OlaHaldor Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 I'm using WED 1.0. The ortho photo was added as a draped polygon in Overlay Editor. This scenery will be payware. Been spending too many hours to justify it as freeware. I doubt people actually would use a donate button.. I checked with the Nearmap.com website. Doesn't look promising in regards of getting ortho photos of Spain from there. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 A sneak peak of Muchamiel in motion, along with the Sequoia Falco. Any comments in regards of the video goes along with the thread with the video please.http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php?topic=1321.0 Quote
OlaHaldor Posted October 13, 2010 Author Report Posted October 13, 2010 No new models. But I've started looking at the possibility of making kick ass night textures. Here's a render of what you can expect. There's four of these hangars which belongs to Inaer, and there's a Pepsi machine which also have some sort of self illuminating light fixtures, and there's a lamp on the curved hangar which will throw some light on the ground.I think this will add a lot to the mood, even though there's no lights on the runway, it will certainly be cool to make an evening flight here.Oh, and you read this first at x-pilot, not .org or any other site. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted October 13, 2010 Author Report Posted October 13, 2010 And two hours later with some fiddling and testing and tweaking to get it more or less right. Quote
AnonymousUser68 Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 Coming along nicely Ola. Will you do the same to the ground textures ??? Quote
-TheoGregory Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 X-Plane 10 will almost definitely bring a light source meaning you may be able to have the light dynamically going over the hangers with there new elements from there Version 10 Scenery SDK. That would also be great if you decide to do ground textures... Well done Ola. Looks great ! Quote
OlaHaldor Posted October 13, 2010 Author Report Posted October 13, 2010 Did one more hangar and the building between them. Notice how the light from the buildings casts light to the building in the middle. The christmas feeling is coming over me when I fly around this place. Wooohoo! Quote
OlaHaldor Posted October 13, 2010 Author Report Posted October 13, 2010 I couldn't stop.. I went on with the club house and restaurant too. It needs fine tuning like the hangars before it's done, but you get the baisc idea. This render illustates how it'll look after the fine tuning. Quote
Simmo W Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 Looking great Ola! U got the night lighting bug too, it's beautiful to have good quality, subtle lighting Quote
Oliver Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 Wow Ola! Lovin' the Pepsi machine Quote
garrettm30 Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Yeah, the Pepsi machine is my favorite part. Quote

Jack Skieczius Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 really coming along nicely now Ola. keep at it, this will be one hell of a cool add-on. Quote
Kesomir Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Yep, great idea the vending machine.Over to my silly sense of humour, hope you can make it outImage looks like Sega Bass Fishing. love the Live Bait tag ;D Quote
OlaHaldor Posted November 3, 2010 Author Report Posted November 3, 2010 Thank you, Jack. I've got a new batch of "really busy at work", so development is standing still at the moment. I'm almost tired of having to get back to this project all the time now. Hehe.. I just wanna get done with it Quote
