Whoops. You're running XP32 on W8 64 aren't you? James
-
Hello newmind, I am not 100% sure But I'm not sure that the CRJ – 200 supports X-Plane 64-bit as yet. I am surprised it is working for you? Kind regards, James

Very nice mate, well done! The shift is coming.... slowly but surely, it would good to get stats on the number of newly-included airports submitted to Robin on a per-release basis.... As processes become more streamlined, the simulator becomes more accessible, which in turn drives maturity for the next cycle of evolution. With 64bit settling in, WED 1.2 being released and the prime plugins needed to support 64bit also maturing things are looking good to start attracting more developers to the platform. Thanks again for the showcase video, a great effort! Kind regards, James

Not exactly flight sim I know but seriously check this reaction out! With a 3D stereoscopic interface those 3D cockpits are going to be great! Cheers James -

Saw a YouTube video tonight of RoF being played using the rift, looked pretty cool - although I know nothing about Rise of Flight. Cheers James -

The ONE thing that would make X-Plane feel more real

I am so glad this thread came up, I've been looking forward to it. I'm with the OP - The Rift I think will be amazing on XP.... I for one would be happy to give it a go with a mouse for switches so as to know where your "hand" is. I've got a Leap Motion on back-order from last year, that could be an interesting utility - who knows!? I decided not to pull the trigger on a dev kit as I don't have coding experience, but the more I am hearing about others experience it would seem that with relatively little-to-no coding experience a lot of games can at least be tried out, conceptually. But I am positively itching to see (mind the pun!) what the experience would be like with XP and the Rift. To *really* look up at your overhead panel and down to your MCP and behind you to look at the window, wow! As for the resolution issue, it's well known that the dev kit is not hi res as it doesn't impact the *potential* that needs to be accepted by the community first, but.......... It's soooooo good apparently that I might have to "borrow" one that I know is in the near vicinity of where I live, or...... Get one. Find I can't make it work and then ship it to Ben with an accompanying begging letter to get it working/optimise "XP for VR" Wow. Mega wow. Big kid time. Definitely. -
Agreed.

Hi ncc1701e, Well done indeed! For your first video you've done really well to both fly the plane and keep the audience engaged from a production perspective. Looking forward to watching the other parts and learning more! I am curious, which tools did you use for your production in the end, and how did you find the experience of putting it together? Cheers James

Nice one Cameron. I love this community! Cheers James

Hi, No problem at all! Thanks for the compliment! I uploaded another one to my channel on Saturday for some fun called "Jumbo Chicken" - which is in essence a teaser for the upcoming WorldTraffic add-on for X-Plane. Cheers James

Hi there, I think I used something like 80% on the quality slider when exporting my videos, and as for the audio I don't recall making any changes to the default HD profile that was in Camtasia because for me 720p output for YouTube is sufficient - how ever my audio input consisted of 128kbps .mp3 for the commentary, captured by Fraps and Camtasia where appropriate and the background music I dropped into the timeline afterwards. The output file for the "Aircraft Acceptance to Takeoff" was about 285Mb for 17 minutes of footage, this should help give a good rule of thumb. In summary, try 80% quality and see if that is going to cut it for you. (And I rarely select 1080p on YouTube as a viewer, even with a 12Mb connection to the Internet it's just a bit too slow to buffer for my liking.) I hope this helps. Cheers James
-
Hi, You can definitely export to 1080p - here's a YouTube video using Camtasia on Windows that shows how to do it, very simple: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bgr9uv1TRtI&feature=youtube_gdata And to preempt - my imported Fraps files were something like 1680 x 1050 to start with... so you can import and edit with files bigger than 720p - you just need to set you canvas size appropriately. (Camtasia Studio 8 might even have these presets right out of the box) I would suggest downloading a trial and having a look for yourself, it is excellent and well worth the price. The evaluation is fully-featured and lasts for 30 days. Good luck! Cheers James

Hi Patrick, Thanks for the feedback, good to know. I've recently upgraded my CPU to an i7 2700K with the Intel Thermal Solution (water-cooled block) and in the past week my motherboard to a Z77 chipset and faster (1866Mhz) RAM which has allowed me to overclock in the OS to a stable 4.5Ghz on-demand. Being quite new to modern overlooking capabilities I was really impressed to see my CPU jump from 1600Mhz to 4500Mhz in realtime when I gave it something to do, such as start X-Plane. The software that handles it was part of the Asus motherboard bundle and I have to say its been a pleasure so far. In my mind I wanted 4.5Ghz - if I got that I'd be happy, and sure enough I got it no problem, with my CPU hitting 36C max. Nice. So..... All that's left to upgrade is the GPU, which is why I was looking at the 4GB 680. The Titan is certainly a beast, but we'll have to see how it goes over the next few months. If you do get the time and you don't mind I would be keen to know how the rest of your benchmarking goes. I don't know how many other people will have X-Plane and Titans in the near future, so I might as well take advantage of it! Cheers James
-
Hi there, No problem, glad to help. And for what it's worth, I liked your signature layout so used it as the basis for my own. I've just been through an upgrade process over Christmas last year and my upcoming birthday, so this is why it looks new and shiny! The GPU will be next n a few months time, once I've saved up my pennies! Cheers James
-
@Crashmax Hi there, I'd be interested to know how you get on with the Titan. Over the next few months I will be in the market for a new GPU to replace my sturdy-but-budget GTX 560 Ti. I'd almost put the issue to bed, deciding to go for a single 4GB GTX 680 - but now XP is 64bit final I may like to take advantage of the extra VRAM. It's a very expensive card I realise, but it'll be the first time I've ever bought a top of the range card, and perhaps it won't be by the time I save up for it. Either way, please let me know your experience of it, most interested. Cheers James

Hi, Good question on the codec, I did have to download one as out-of-the-box neither Windows or Camtasia can will do H.264 (MP4) - I chose to use the Xvid codec as it did the trick, was free, and didn't install a load of extra crap I didn't need or pressure me into using or buying anything else. Worked a treat, Camtasia was able to use it no problem. (And no watermarks or anything like that) The version of Camtasia I am using is 7.1 - which I believe is the latest. It's a great product, I've been using it on and off for years - but this is the first time I've used it to create personal videos, and the first time using it with Fraps - but I think you'll agree that the results speak for themselves. Everything you see in those videos was done using Camtasia. Took a couple of night works for both videos. Hope this helps. Cheers James
-
Hi, Yes it does. Or more accurately what it does is to let import all the Fraps files into a project library and then from there you can drag them into a timeline and edit the content just like you would do with a peice of video editing software - treat Camtasia as such. The exported project file will be a single (and compressed) file. For example, one of my videos is 17 mins long, which was a ridiculous 40-50gb of Fraps files, which ended up as a 285Mb HD .mp4 I hope this makes sense. Cheers James
-
Hi there, I used the Fraps registered edition application to capture my in-XP footage shown in my first two videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/jamescgillies/videos?view=0&flow=grid I then used Camtasia Studio to edit together the collated footage, create call-outs and so on. It (Camtasia) is also capable of capturing your raw Windows desktop footage (seen in the first of the two videos above). Camtasia will also export the finished project out to HD YouTube-ready files that you can then upload to YouTube at your leisure. The thing to bear in mind with capturing with Fraps is that purely to keep up with the amount of data that is generated by 3D applications (especially if you are going to capture at HD resolutions) there is no time / resource left over to also encode/compress the video down to a more manageable size - this is why you get 3.98GB files in pieces. This gives you the most flexibility (assuming you have the disk space) during post-production using something like Camtasia. At the time I made those videos I had recently bought an OCZ Vertex 3/4 (can't remember which!) plugged into a 3GB/s sata connection on my MB and it kept up no problem. (Full HD, full 30fps) I hope this gives you something to go on. Cheers James

Welcome Jay, Stick it out mate, it'll be worth it. Guaranteed. It'll come and then it's gravy. Cheers James

Fog on every window of the plane (even passangers)
JimboG replied to vienna's topic in British Aerospace Jetstream 32
Hi Vienna, I put together a couple of videos covering this and other items such as fogging and icing. Hope it helps. http://m.youtube.com/results?q=jamescgillies#/user/jamescgillies Cheers James -
Good work Cameron, Glad you got back with "minimal" disruption... Time for a sleep methinks. And yes, I couldn't help Googling also to see if everything was OK - DDoS, virus, hack etc. But no, good ol' fashioned multiple hardware failures at the same time. Nice. Congrats for getting back, as coily and Andyrooc alluded to - I was getting antsy without "my" X-Pilot forum! LOL. Now go ahead and release something on X-Aviation so that we can all queue up and make sure your POS system is still working, make everyone feel better? Cheers James

[RFE] Warning to change aircraft before X-plane quit
JimboG replied to ansorgj's topic in British Aerospace Jetstream 32
Hi Jens, Could I suggest using some accompanying checklists with your Jetstream 32 (which includes control lock checks!) - see the topic here: http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php/topic/4650-jetstream-32-checklist-clist-available-v08/ The checklists are comprehensive and have been signed off by RW J32 pilot Cooley. They seems to have helped quite a lot of people, especially given that its easy to forget how to accomplish certain tasks from memory 100% of the time. At the very least, could I suggest going through the two YouTube videos I put together which shows you them in action and how it works.... The control locks are in the videos too! I hoe this helps. Cheers James
