  1. So for anyone following up: 1. Gizmo is for payware authors on Windows and Mac only. (not linux) 2. Get a different piaggio download (not the one from x-pilot) that was made for XPlane 9 and ported to XP10 and XP 11, elsewhere if you want a piaggio that flies and has no gizmo.
  2. Agreed. THe clouds in the beta are wonky, they look like some kind of strange compositing is happening and the shadows are not as high res and crisp as I was hoping (either shadows of clouds or the sun cast shadows on aircraft). But this is a great beta and it will only get better.
  3. It would be nice if there was more than 2 users on this forum eh? I only know enough to say which Cessna 170 I consider most study level, and for that (Part 60 I guess if you're in the USA, who cares about the FAA if you are canadian or european though), I would go with AIrFoil Labs, which has a 172 steam gauge and 172 glass cockpit (garmins).
  4. One thing to point out here. Xp11 aircraft are about 99% compatible, out of 100 or so I have tried, 99 fly, some have warnings about sound errors, some have dataref warnings, but most operate and fly fine.
  5. This is totally awesome and I'm very glad to discover this tool. I have been working on a few python scripts that I use for help in modifying .acf files, as I often want to tweak problems and annoying graphical glitches on freeware aircraft. To answer KenS's question I do not believe you should put these tools in the main XPlane folder or the plane maker folder, but rather put them in their own folder. Add the tool folder to the PATH to be able to run the tools from the command line.
  6. Totally agree and thanks for being a friendly community around here. You guys are great.
  7. @pizzagalli.ch Which osprey you flew there? It's nice.
  8. It turns out that for the Piaggio specifically, it includes a subdirectory with a zip file inside that includes the runtime files needed to install in your primary X-Plane plugins folder. Isn't that hilarious? The author of the Piaggio stated that it wasn't there, but I was looking around, and it's there. Anyways, my complaint was not that I can't have a free aircraft (WAH! POOR ME!) my complaint is that I'm a new X-Plane aircraft maker of freeware aircraft and wanted to evaluate this thing to see if I want to use it. We had been discussing SASL versus GIZMO over on .org's plane maker sub forum. But I'm distinctly displeased not only with Ben's attitude towards me, but also the way he treats other people on threads on these forums. It seems to me that Gizmo is a one man show, and I'm not a big fan of that one man's attitude or vibe. You remember that kid who wants to take his marbles and go home, when you were in grade three. Yeah that. The Piaggio is a great draw to the X-Pilot site as it's literally one of the nicest freeware aircraft out there for X-Plane. However, I do not much like the Gizmo process of being a main-XPlane-resources folder plugin, I would much rather it be a per aircraft plugin, but perhaps that's not possible. Whatever, it works. Strike two is lack of Linux support, as I want to provide all three. Strike three, is it seems that freeware use is probably not a great idea, as the focus seems to be for payware authors, and if you want to use it, you use it at Ben's discretion and if and only if he says so, which seems like not a great fit if being thought of as an alternative to SASL, which it's basically not.
  9. Right. Clearly people are assuming that I'm telling the author of the aircraft what to do. But I am not. What I am doing is pointing out that whether this is the best option or not is highly dubious. I shall stay away from it because its technical lead is a highly erratic toddler.
  10. DId I demand it be made to work? Or did I simply ask, why is this thing, which is supposed to be a going thing, seeming so not around and evanescent? It gives off well, an unpleasant first impression. You have heard about first impressions? They have them wherever you find yourself? The answer to this question is a bunch of loud-mouth idiocy from this Ben person. What a winner. Let's look at all the places where you were a jerk on this board. There's dozens of them. Guess what, when everyone else is the problem, it's you.
  11. And I won't spend a nickel on any aircraft that uses Gizmo, because I don't want to encourage arrogance and bullying. People may notice the "I won't license my tools to you" as basically letting everyone know that you think of it not so much as a business that is open for business, and more "my tools", which people who you like might use. SASL, your competitor, is run by grown-ups.
  12. The litmus test here, is actually, is Gizmo something I would use or not, if I make aircraft. With people with attitudes like that, the answer is no.
  13. @InitiatedAunt74 currently the only way to get the Gizmo plugin is if you own any X-Aviation product. Uh wait what? I thought Gizmo was available for, and required by a variety of freeware aircraft including the PIAGGIO P180_Avanti_II from this forum's downloads section. There's a website with a broken dropbox link, but this Gizmo thing, which is uniquely associated with x-pilot and x-aviation is now abandonware that can't be downloaded anywhere? >Gizmo64 is a plugin for the X-Plane flight simulator that lets you program in Lua Script. So, now, besides not being available for Linux, which is one of the three platforms that XPlane users use, we have the issue that it's basically not possible to get this and use it for aircraft developers, or people using things that rely on it? Shouldn't the gizmo64.com website be downed then? Other references on other forums point to this being used by other commercial and freeware products.
  14. Why does this freeware aircraft require a payware aircraft's DRM plugin? Why does the gizmo64.com website point to a broken link? You should probably remove this plugin. What good does it do? The plane flies, and the throttle won't move without gizmo?
  15. ALSO the flight computer is messed up. Look and see if you can spot the issue.
  16. Gizmo is required for this aircraft? How do you download it? The link is broken https://gizmo64.com/ -> https://www.dropbox.com/s/wmvc1kyfslyim6b/Gizmo64.plugin-20.07.19.0120.zip?dl=1
  17. Vaguely aviation related joke. There's a hot air balloon in it. A dude in a hot air balloon realizes he is lost, and descends to a field, where he sees a person standing in a grassy clearing, and assumes it's a farmer out in his fields. The balloonist comes down and yells, “Excuse me, can you help me, I'm lost, can you tell me where I am? I'm running late as I've promised to meet a friend in one hour.". The person in the grassy field replied, “You are in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude.” “You must be an engineer,” said the balloonist. “I am,” replied the person on the ground, “How did you know?” “Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost. Frankly, you’ve not been much help so far.” The person below responded, “You must be in Management.” “I am,” replied the balloonist, “but how did you know?” “Well,” said the engineer, “you don’t know where you are or where you are going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve all your problems for you. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it’s my fault.”
  18. That's really cool. I assume that however it's updating AI aircraft positions I might be able to write a script to make an AI aircraft do a formation pattern that I could attempt to fly and follow.

  20. Some flight schools start you on a high wing piston engine aircraft, like the 172. Find out what you'll be flying. Until you find that out, fly the 172. The default Cessna 172 in XPlane 11 is very good. There's a reality expansion pack for it in the .org store, which is very good, and there are many freeware mods for it that are very good, including an mgouge one. There's a commercial C172 from Airfoil Labs that I own in its 2015 steam gauge version and there's a 2021 garmin G1000 pfd/mfd equipped one. There's a lot of nice add ons to give you feedback about your flying. I own MSFS and love it but nobody considers it suitable yet for "study level" use, even though you're asking on an X-plane oriented forum. X-Plane 11 (and soon 12) is the place to be. Welcome.
  21. Anyone wanting a Cessna 182 that flies in XPlane 11 can check out Jason CHandler (C74.net) who has a pretty great one, it's a hybrid cockpit (it's a 3d model, but the instruments are projected onto a flat 2d area). Free downloads from C74: (sign up required) http://www.c74.net/xplane/fx/viewforum.php?f=44 C182 download: http://www.c74.net/xplane/fx/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=14 http://www.c74.net/xplane/fx/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=15 There's two C74.net Jason Chandler Cessna, one steam, one glass. If you learn cockpit building you can easily privately get these into any cockpit you want, but as they belong to Jason kindly don't redistribute your local changes.
