Thanks for the reply Tom. It is really refreshing to read the avsim forum to see how many closet x-planers have come out of the woodwork in full support of XPX with a PMDG partnership. Very exciting times ahead regardless of their cooperation to be honest and it must make you proud to be a part of it! Incredible how different the sim feels already at beta 10.04. Thanks Rhydian

I spy a DC3 cockpit, looking sharp Goran! Cheers Rhydian

Leo Bodnar's board are superb. They are relatively cheap compared to other boards on the market, such as the simkits 32bit controller. I used one to convert a gameport CH pedal set into a USB variety and it has never failed on me. It only cost me £25 when I bought it, they cost around £40 now but that is still pretty good. I used to have a switch panel to control various FSX switches where I used the Simkits board (also good). Some pics of the switch panel (plus my old project) here: http://cessnasim.blogspot.com/ Unfortunately, I stripped it out to make my new simulator that runs with X-plane 9.70, but i think it was worthwhile I haven't got it to run in X-Plane 10 just yet. I hope to make a new one for using with XPX. Some pics of my new one here: http://www.simkits.com/builderpage.php?url=rhydianjamesyeoman Here is an old photo (I think I've posted it before, must make a new one) Cheers Rhydian

To be fair, I was surprised to see quite a lot of support in that forum for PMDG's development for x-plane 10 from posters that I have never seen before. This announcement today is going to go a long way for the x-plane series. I think that XPX has made a deep impact over the last couple of months and it's just in it's infancy. Rhydian

Would be good if Aerofly got together with Outerra, now that really would be something different. Will be interesting if they keep developing for it and make it an open platform for addon developers.

It's looking rather sexy....

I think it looks superb and genuinely refreshing. Its nice to see another company having a go, it reminds me of our hobby's golden age when there was more than two flight simulators on the market, such as Fly!, MSFS, Sierra ProPilot, Flight Unlimited, countless combat flight sims as well as X-plane (of course). Unfortunately, it feels these days (and this is my personal view) that it's such a hostile market to be in, I'm surprised developers have the patience. On most of the forums that I have been reading about Aerofly FS, the AVsim Flight forum, Aerosoft forum (where I posted about it), Simouthouse forum etc etc... Some people seem to be quick to judge it's short comings as a simulator and pronounce it dead before it even hits the market. It seems to be the usual thing, if it isn't FSX then it's next to no use. To be honest, I remember the above simulators struggling with the same view years ago with a pretty lack lustre FS2000 at the time. Sad really, you'd think that given that our hobby caters for such a niche market, that people would welcome a new simulator with an open mind, but it seems the exact opposite. I just read a comment on the Simouthouse forum, 'why would pay ware or freeware developers bother learning to build in a new sim', I find it a shame that people think way. I'll be happy to support it when they release an English version. Be wary of turbulence AeroFly FS, because this market is a bumpy ride. Rhydian

Just bought the latest Zelda for the Wii. Now, the wife and I fight for the right to use the TV. Loved the N64, way ahead of its time that console. I had many sleepless nights playing Mario Kart 64! I'm currently on my 3rd xbox 360 console due to red rings of death issues, but the current console 250gb model is in a totally different league to the initial 360. Much quieter, much better looking... Bit like me in my old age....Joke....I'm not that old!

300% agree with you Simon. I find it unusual how anyone could compare it with settings from a simulator that was made 4 years ago. Even with the updates, XP10's architecture is still radically different from that of 9.70 and should be treated as such. This is a whole new animal. I learnt my lesson when FSX flew onto my PC, I set it to the same settings as FS2004 and my computer burst into flames...well not really...but you get the idea. Be realistic with settings and let LR do their magic, you know they will, they're clever like that. :-) Rhydian

X-Plane 10 Demo Available for Download

Oh good so it isn't just me then. Well that is a relief. What brought me to X-plane, apart from being genuinely interested in simulated flight as a whole was it's no nonsense style to its settings. You do have to know what you are doing and it doesn't hide away from the fact that it's a very powerful piece of software. To me, the interface makes it look like a niche piece of software if you understand what I'm saying. But that is part of its charm and I do like it like that. Unfortunately, the only other person that agreed with me happened to be an aeronautical engineer (retired) who had worked for BA and DARPA. The rest of them found it confusing and were hoping that it would change for XP10.

Hi there, Yesterday, I presented my Primary 6 Flight Simulator (please see my simpit blog for some details) to a flight sim club here in the UK. Many of the members of the club (around 20) were rather surprised and quite curious as to why it was running with X-plane 9.70 and not MSFS, even though my simpit could quite happily run with FSX or FS2004 via FSUIPC or another similar interface. I explained to them that I have chosen X-plane 9 as I feel it enhances what I am looking to simulate with my simpit in terms fluid flight with advanced weather effects and mostly because of the potential it presents to cockpit builders right out of the box. I was not overly surprised to find that many of the members (mostly current pilots, retired pilots, engineers and enthusiasts of aviation) either already owned a copy of X-plane 9 or had downloaded the trial at some point but had difficulty coming to terms with the differences with MSFS that they had become so accustomed to over the years. So while I was there I thought I would show them some of the features that I believe X-Plane 9 really excels at. Most of them seemed genuinely impressed with the weather simulation and speedy loading times between night and day. We had a bit of fun trying to land into the local airport on CAT 3 approach, My Simkits gauges were having a great workout. However, one thing that really struck me was their genuine hatred of the interface. I had a long conversation with one gentlemen a very experienced, retired, automobile engineer, who expressed his fondness for X-plane, but had struggled to get to grips with the interface. He said he was bewildered with the amount of options, sliders and tick boxes. But this gripe seemed to be a running theme with most of the members, who had become used to FSX's simplified, approach. Personally, I actually like this interface, even though it presents itself as coming from Austin's engineering background, I feel it looks more industrial and professional than MSFS graphics driven menu system. However, I am aware that Austin has mentioned that this may be changed with the later updates of X-plane 10 (many of the members had a real buzz about version 10, which was great to see). I do wonder what sort of interface could be possibly introduced to change the default grey menus. Maybe LR should take a leaf out of Real Environment Extreme's branding. It presents a slick, intuitive interface that seems to be very popular with simmers. I would also be surprised if Aerosoft didn't have a hand in creating something new for X-plane 10, they have many experienced artists and designers on their books. Does it need an overhaul? Is it something that the average Joe can get involved in and send designs to LR for consideration? It would be interesting to know what others think? I think I'll pass on being a 'target' Jan. Out of interest, and if you don't mind me asking in between killing terrorists, with the anti-ice system is there something that could be simulated graphically within X-plane? Such as Ice build up on the windows and the window heat dissipating it etc etc.. Is that something that can be achieved? Thanks (ducks for cover) Rhydian

Early next year??? Ahhhh..... Shall be worth the wait though. I like Aerosoft's idea about a sold on hard drive version. Trust them to think outside the box, good on you Aerosoft.

Fantastic work. I can't wait to fly this in a simulator again. It brings me back to very good memories of Rick Piper's model for FS2004. Does anyone remember that? Great model, great fun to fly. Superb work. Rhydian -
Oh Cameron, you tease!!! Almost dropped my iPad when I read that. :-) Cheers Rhydian

Absolutely incredible work Guy. Your Comet really is a labour of love. That new lick of paint, really makes a tremendous difference to the exterior. Thanks for the update. Rhydian.

Thanks for the update Jan & Morten. Sorry to hear about those virtual passengers . It's good to see a X-plane add-on being made with such complex systems programming. Cheers Rhydian

Hi Morten, Jan and crew. I subscribed to your IXEG YouTube page and there was a new video on there on the 1st of November, but it seems to have dissappeared now. The thumbnail looked great though! :-) What we have seen so far looks absolutely marvellous. With X-plane 10 around the corner (and looking incredible) will some of the new technology that has been brought to this version be used for the 737 classic? If i remember correctly your product was going to be for soley for XP10. Is it likely you guys will be given a beta copy to test? Keep up the fantastic work, gents! Cheers Rhydian

Blimey you model fast Pete! Tundra tyres look great.

Absolutely nothing wrong with having more than one rendition of an aircraft in a flight sim platform, especially if they offer different instrumentation and avionics etc. I know people who have bought both the Flight Replica Piper Cub and the A2A version for FSX. As they offer different things, if you are such a fan of the aircraft then you woul be happy to buy both. Keep going Pete. What you are creating is wonderful. And I echo the sentiments in this forum, your devotion to this hobby is appreciated and it reminds me why I love it so much.

Sorry to hear about your TrackIR Philipp, that's disgusting behaviour. If it's not bolted to the ground or super-glued in place it gets stolen these days. What a world we live in!!! Glad you are enjoying it though, wish I could have gone, oh well maybe next year. Rhydian
