  1. One more thing about this nose wheel and brakes thingy. Following the checklists we set the parking brake early, then do hydraulic tests, and then later flight control tests, which involve the rudder. What I have found is that after starting the engines the plane starts rolling forward, and I was perplexed by this. How could the parking brake be set and the plane roll away? I think I might have figured it out. In the engine (or before engine) startup checklist the co-pilot says, "Parking Brake". I don't check it because I know I put it on earlier in the first check list. But I got to thinking, what if the hydraulic and control checks let the pressure bleed out of the parking brake. Somehow? So, this last time, just before starting the engines, I released the parking brake ("V" key) then pushed and held on the brakes ("B" key), then set the parking brake again ("V" key). Viola, it worked the plane didn't move an inch. I also found that for taxing after you release the parking brake you have to release the regular brakes as well. ("V" then "B").
  2. Hi, I have been downloading this into X-Plane for my FMS for free and it has been working fine. Download the Coded Instrument Flight Procedures (CIFP) (faa.gov) ---download the current CIFP file (Coded Instrument Flight Procedures) and extract the files. Copy the FAACIFP18 file, paste it into the folder "X-Plane 11 / Custom Data " and rename the file (FAACIFP18) to earth_424.dat ----- Then I get all the airport and info and charts from here. Lookup Airport | SkyVector But when I go into the FMS on the 650 it reads "WORLD", and will not show me a current database. Can you tell me how I can use the FAA data? Thanks Chris
  3. Hi, I just took another flight, and right now I'm addicted to learning this plane. I have been solving a lot of problems I am having by reading these posts, but I can't seem to figure out the following: How do I change the barometer from reading "HPA" to reading "inhg". I found a calculator, but I don't want to have to keep using it if there is a way to change it. Convert inhg to hpa - Conversion of Measurement Units (convertunits.com) I finally figured out how to change the squawk code. I never used such an Indepth FMS before and didn't realize to use that to input the code. Is that the only way to do it? I was trying to land at KPIE and I used the X-plane map (I did not program or use the FMS for this flight) and I clicked like I usually do on the ILS for the runway and clicked on the blue box to enter the frequency into my NAV1, but it would not accept it. After fiddling around with the radio switches on the center pedestal I finally came to the realization that this too was accomplished in the FMS. However, after finally putting in the frequency for that ILS approach I never received a signal over NAV1 and therefore couldn't use the "NAV" for an approach. Is it possible that it is not recognizing X-Plane's frequencies? One more thing on ILS. I have noticed that this plane can't be started by having the "Start with engines running" checked, nor by using the "CTRL+SHIFT+E". So when I click on an ILS on the map and ask to do an ILS approach, it reboots me into the air with no engines running. Can there be a fix for that so I can practice approaches at different airports? Thanks Chris
  4. Hi, I scrolled through the forum and couldn't find this discussion. I tried to enter pilot/co-pilot, and passengers through use of PlaneMaker, but it will not open the .acf file. I'm guessing either PlaneMaker doesn't work with it, or you have some type of a lock on it. Do you have any plans to at least add the pilot/co-pilot? Thanks Chris
  5. If you are using "Career Mode" it will reload the plane as you left it. Try using the other when you start. The only time my nose gear was like that was after I started the engines without properly setting the parking brake. I found to properly set the parking brake I have to push and hold the "B" key, and then push and release the "V" key, then release the "B" key. I hope this helps.
  6. Unfortunately, I am STILL having problems with the ATS. None of the buttons is making the N1 TO come on. I'm having some problems with the FLCH in the AP also.
  7. I figured out what my problems was. It was the degree of view setting in "Graphics". I was at 60 degrees. I brought it to 80 degrees. Much better.
  8. OK, Thanks.
  9. Hi, When I press "Shift+9", and the view returns to the captain's seat, I feel too close to the dashboard, and I am not properly aligned to the seatback. I use the ",<" key to move back to a comfortable position so as to see the screens, even with the seatback of the copilot, and flip down the HUD, I am now too far away to use it, and have to move forward to get all the information visible. Is there a way I can adjust the HUD so I can see it, while also being back far enough to see the instrument panels? Thanks Chris
  10. Did you try recalibrating your joystick? That's what worked for me.
  11. I got it working. I didn't have the AP engaged. Thank you Chris
  12. Hi, I was able to clear the "FAIL" but it does not indicate "N1 TO" like it should.
  13. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
  14. OK, I need "how to operate this for dummies". Where is the TOGO button? This ATIS thing is driving me nuts.
  15. I got my copy of the Challenger 650 last night as soon as it was available. So far, I'm loving it. I have lots of reading to do. Can you tell me if there is a list of corresponding keys on the keyboard to operate different buttons and switches? Like going through the checklists with the co-pilot. Is there a key already assigned to acknowledge instead of the drop down?
  16. That's what just brought me here from the X-Plane Forums. Suspended for accidentally posting a link to the new HotStart Challenger 650. How was I supposed to know? I just started using X-plane a few months ago. Glad to be here.
