I think a decent Sydney Airport is in order, Simon. The freeware version at the org has a voracious appetite for framerates.

Mikkel There is no doubt some add ons for FSX and FS9 are extremely high quality and are much better than X-Planes 3rd party add ons. However, what struck me was peoples comments that when making a true comparison between the simulators, take out all the add ons and just compare them straight out of the box. And I remember more than a few people say in various forums, that when this kind of comparison is done, FS9 leaves X-Plane "in the dust". In no way do I want this to be a X-Plane vs FS9 thread. I was simply making an observation based on other peoples comments. I have all the MSFS's from FS98. But imho, FS9 does not leave X-Plane "in the dust" when comparing straight out of the box.
-
Both valid points. However, my point was, I see many FS9 veterans still say that X-Plane doesn't even compare to FS9 with no add ons. I read just about all the forums out there. And that is the common thread. A mod who is involved with a very well known add on for FS9 and FSX even had the nerve to show his sarcastic side while drawing a comparison. I would love to fire up FSX to take a few screenshots of that, but I don't have it installed and it takes about half an hour to have it installed. And correct me if I'm wrong, but the X-Plane default Cessna is from V7, I think. And it looks the same now as it did back then. That was quite a while ago. Perhaps around the same time as FS9 Again, I'm not in this to bash FS9 or FSX. They both have their pro's and cons and people have the right to choose. But seriously, FS9 "smashing" X-Plane? I don't think so.
-
I was working with Theo today and was uploading something to him in Dropbox. I felt like taking a small break so I decided to fire up FS9 purely out of curiosity as I had forgotten what it looked like. Turns out I wasn't missing much. I quickly drew a few comparisons between the default Cessna 172 in both simulators. It amazes me how the FS9 fans keep saying if you put x-plane and FS9 side by side and compare default aircraft, FS9 smashes X-Plane. Keeping in mind, my X-Plane settings are at roughly half that of FS9 settings. My FS9 settings are totally maxed out. Anyone tell me what's wrong with this picture? Anybody at all? LOL? FS9 X-PLANE

When I originally made the Sundowner, I was very much against an update. I wanted everything done right the first time. But now that I'm finding out new things, I plan on making this update the final update. In saying that, It will be ready in approximately 3-6 weeks. It sounds like a long time, but it will look like an entirely new Sundowner.
-
The Sundowner is being worked on and is getting a rather large upgrade. Systems refinement, readability of gauges, AILERON TRIM, better looking mesh in a few places, flight model adjustments, faster loading times, better framerates, possibly a new night lighting texture (Theo's experimenting) and a few texture fixes. The G36 will have all this as well, plus a few extras.
-
Weird. Perhaps check out the org and see if anyone else has the same problem and if there are any solutions.
-
Very unusual. I just updated to the latest version and the altimeters work on the aforementioned Cessna as well as all my current projects. As was mentioned, deleting preferences will probably fix it. Looks like an x-plane thing. Not a developer thing.

I saw that a few days ago. Hardly surprising since Nicolas co runs the avsim store. Talk about being able to pull some strings.
-
As was said earlier, must be that same pesky hacker that did the post editing a few months ago. I wonder if Nicolas is going to do an investigation into this one now. : Will, Ben or Joe...Would any of you care to elaborate on why these posts were deleted?

Care to do a copy and paste the comments over here in this forum? I can't go to the org anymore as I have been banned.

My very first payware aircraft for FS2000 was a 747-400 made by PSS. For its time, it was absolutely brilliant. It seems "orgware" is a word we should be getting used to.
-
I'm totally speechless. I'm actually completely lost for words. All I'll say is, buy at your own leisure. I'd rather spend my $15 on helping a homeless guy get a good meal.
-
That's a 747-200???? I noticed there are no panel screenshots. And what's with the paper thin fuselage? I'm surprised it doesn't have the Boeing License. What an embarrassment.
-
Great photo!! As has been said before, just because it's quiet, doesn't mean nothings happening. ;D A LOT has been going on in the last few weeks. I will say one thing about the Hawker 4000. It's a very complex aircraft to make and will take quite a bit of programming. The 747-200 will be out before the Hawker 4000

You can't go past Fly Tampa for KSFO. Try the Avsim download section for KLAX and use FS2XPlane to convert. Goran

And my wife thinks I'm nuts for buying an X52 Saitek throttle and Stick. Very nice, indeed. I know of a gentleman who has built a full motion 747-400 simulator that runs FS9 scenery and the 747-400 from Aerowinx. He has so far spent 12 years building it and he's still adding to it. I have a lot of respect for people who build these things. Keep up the good work. And the 747 simulator... http://www.hyway.com.au/747/747.html

I'd be surprised if he wasn't reprimanded for that idiotic stunt. How many people have to die before moronic pilots like this get the message?

What aircraft types would you like us to do most?

Twin Otter's cool, but it's nothing like a C421. There's a somewhat decent Beech twin at the org, but it's still lacking the payware quality finish. It also seems to have stalled in development. The Citation X currently available flies nice, but comes nowhere near the quality we're seeing emerge these days. Who, by the way, is developing the Twin Otter? The Twin Otter is a slow going project being made by a developer at X-Aviation in his somewhat "spare time". I cannot say who it is as they do not wish to be named at this time. -
I'll do what I can within the bounds of what is available to me. I do not plan on adding a failures module customized for the Saab. This was originally intended to be a "lite" version of the Saab but we do want to add the CTOT as it is an integral part of the aircraft. I do want to make it highly detailed but it won't be a dedicated study sim. It will hopefully come close, though. The majority of it is done. All the gauges are working "almost" accurately. The only things left to do are adding a plethora of manipulators, click spots, making sure everything works and is linked to all the switches, a little more texturing and finally programming the CTOT system, which will take a few weeks. We are working very hard on this along with other things but we are optimizing our time to make sure nothing slows down.

version H or J? Waaaaaay too early to make any firm decisions. I'll be tied up with the Saab 340 and 747 until the end of the year. But X-Plane is going nowhere so there's plenty of time. -

There is a Twin Otter currently in development as well as another twin engine similar to the C421. I am actually tempted to make a fully functioning C130 with full 3D cockpit but that project will have to wait until after I finish the 747. Goran -
I was busy testing some stuff in x-plane and occasionally I close x-plane and restart it with changes in graphics settings. I find that after I do this a few times, x-plane slows down quite a bit. The other day, I was on skype with Jason (Airbus) and I told him I was getting slow fps again. He told me to check that x-plane still was not running as a process. I told him it wasn't running at all. He said "Just check in the task manager that it isn't left behind!" Low and behold, there it was. 2 X-plane processes running at the same time after I closed the program. I started it again, and framerates were even lower. I'm not sure if this problem exists on a Mac but it sure does exist on Windows but it doesn't happen all the time. Whenever you run x-plane more than once in 1 day and without a computer restart, do a CTRL-ALT-DELETE and check x-plane is not running in the Processes Tab. If it is, click it and then click "End Process". This will take care of the majority of FPS problems you may have. Kudos to Jason for picking this up. Goran

We'll look into making the click spot larger. Goran

Thanks for the compliment Steven. The update will be ready very soon. A few manual ammendments, some refinements on the flight model and panel regions (clickspots), clearer gauges, a repaint kit and some extra modelling and texturing. Cheers Goran
