  1. Okay, I have to comment...sorry! First and foremost: What's the purpose of your post or disappointment? If you're going to be negative or hopeful, at least back yourself up. Sorry, but there's no point otherwise. Let this first be clear that this response is NOT coming out because it's associated to me. It's a general statement I have because I've seen other people speak of this and frankly, I just don't understand why. It's not many who do complain about it, but never the less, the complaint is there when it's there... What's so disappointing about this? The 3D in a "2D" view looks plenty fine to me...always has regardless of the plane I've flown. One difference here is that this aircraft will go the extra mile and give you the pre-sets to allow you the zoomed in functionality of a similar 2D view AND you get pop-ups! The 3D as 2D also allows manipulator functionality (something the CRJ uses in great numbers). Going off another post of your own, you stated: If such is the case, then manipulators are a step in the right direction. As such, 2D panels are out of the picture, and 3D takes over as 2D. Given the massive amount of manipulators "programmed" into this aircraft, I would think this would plenty suit someone like yourself well. All the above said, if you feel you're going to be disappointed, don't buy it. We all certainly love the business, but even more is that we want happy customers. If it's something you're going to have grief over then maybe this aircraft is NOT for you. Thanks for the info- I guess I'm simply stuck in the past and unwilling to change. From what you've said above it really does sound like a step in the right direction (as far as what I'm looking for) and I can't wait to give it a go. Apologies for the statement, what you all are doing here is really great. Thanks for clearing that up.
  2. Disappointing. :-\ Hopefully the alternative is very similar.
  3. I don't think Garrett meant any harm, Kaphias. Most forums don't allow self deletion, and it would be rather peculiar of a moderator to delete the post in question, so I can see the cause for concern on Garrett's point. Either way, I'm sure Ola has his reasoning for deleting his own post. It may well have to do with respect to those involved. Best, Cameron No harm meant, just wanted to pass on a lesson I'd learned the hard way.
  4. Generally posts are deleted for a reason, whether it be by the poster or a moderator. Coming back and essentially re-posting it doesn't do anyone much good. A simple "Weren't there more posts here?" would have been sufficient.
  5. I believe I'm in shock. By far #1 on my wish list!
  6. http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=42822
  7. I was worried when I read about this on the org a week or so ago, but it's good to hear that nothing really bad came of it.
  8. Yes, providing there is a "immaculate" 2D panel as well. I simply look for a realistic flying experience, which, as far as I'm concerned, is basically the panel and how the plane responds when you move the stick. I used to care more about the exterior features when I flew from the outside "a" view, but now that I fly from the panel view I honestly couldn't care less. I understand though that I'm in the minority by a far amount, so I have to go with the flow if I want to fly anything at all. I'll ohh and ahh with everyone else when I look at an aircraft has been wonderfully modeled, but it's not something I consider a necessity for the flying experience.
  9. Depends on who you are. True, but we all know Austin built X-Plane for realism (this is why there are hot air balloons, birds, and deer).
  10. All I ask is that it flies like the real thing. Therefore I'm glad that Heinz is doing this project, as that is where he seems to put his time. It seems like some developers miss that point, and really, that's what X-Plane is about.
  11. Quote from the page in the DLM at the org: Might be worth giving it a shot!
  12. What did he actually do for this to be worth $65? IMO this aircraft should be selling for $15 max! Worth that much? Nothing. But because he outsourced the 3D model and asked for so much to be put into it, he has to charge that much or else he would lose money.
  13. No wonder he has to charge so much for it! But if he can't model it himself then why even bother? I guess this also means that he doesn't have the time or inclination to do decent modeling and thus purchasers should never expect a 3D cockpit with this aircraft. Right... why should the guys here even bother making planes if they don't do the texturing and systems themselves?
  14. When you open up X-Plane, what do you do? Get online? Pick a random plane and airport and start poking around? Look up a real flight and replicate it in X-Plane? Personally, I use Flight Aware to find a real flight and then replicate the aircraft and airline in X-Plane. If I don't have scenery for the airport or the correct plane, I'll find a different flight. If I just need the livery, I'll usually end up doing a quick one myself. I generally don't take the time to use the same route, altitude, or speed, but I do occasionally, especially on shorter flights. I also chain all my flights together, A to B, B to C, C to D, D to E, and so on. Since I started tracking and recording about a year ago, I've made over 200 flights using the system and logged over 700 hours. Not like that means much, thanks to autopilot, but oh well. I also like to have some fun though, so I'll occasionally go mess around in a fighter jet or a car (it's more fun than your would think, I guarantee). So, how do you fly?
  15. ~4 hours working on the Salmon-Thirty-Salmon paint a couple years ago. My parents set a good example.
  16. I'm sure it's great, just not worth $65 for what you get.
  17. $65USD
  18. Looks great! Have you ever considered developing algorithms to turn your textures into "winter" textures? I think this would be a great addition to your packages, especially Washington and Oregon.
  19. For your issue with WED, you need to load the apt.dat file manually before you can begin editing. To open it, go to File>Import apt.dat, navigate to the apt.dat file of the scenery package, and import it. You should then see the airport (you may have to zoom out first) and can then begin editing.

  21. I'd pay $75... but only if the package included models such as the -700 and the -900. Turning that into a question... is it possible that you could make those models as well? I've always thought it a waste when a designer makes one aircraft in a series (i.e, 737-800) but doesn't make the other similar aircraft (-900, -700, -400). I don't know how closely related the -200, -700, and the -900 are, but I think it would be great to put the work you have done to the best use.
  22. No... I don't think so.
  23. I'm curious if this (new/adjustable interface) makes it any easier to use, especially for those trying to learn...
  24. The XPFW site has been down/slow for the past week or so. I managed to load it once, but it took 10 minutes and the forum page was glitched. EDIT: Just by chance after posting I went to check XPFW, and it loaded right up.

Great news, but it still pains me when two amazing developers are working on the same project (in this case, XPFW).
