****THINGY RESOLVED**** Instructions to get the AMAZING look: Open X-Plane 10. Settings > Rendering Options > Gamma. Change the number to 1.6. Note the "Takes Effect on Restart." Close Rendering Options. Location > Select Airport. Enter. This saves your preferences. We will now restart the program. Close X-Plane 10. Open X-Plane 10. Please observe the amazing colouration, however, skycolours won't be as dynamic as they could be and they won't reflect off of your plane. Settings > Rendering Options > Gamma. Change the number to 3.4. This will make beautiful sunsets cast that orange glow on your plane like they do in real life. DO NOT CLOSE X-PLANE 10 NOW. Important: Before closing X-Plane ten, carry out steps 2-5 (including changing gamma to 1.6). This will make it easier next time you start X-Plane, you will only need to change the gamma to 3.4.Please enjoy and post screenshots to let me know how things went!

I know I already posted this in the help section but I want to include more pictures... I just really wish I could re-create this feeling in X-Plane one more time. It won't let me. I've done everything from pumping up gamma to 4.0 or dropping it to 1.0... nothing helps. It's like someone said "INCREASE CONTRAST x100." If anyone else has figured out how to recreate this, let me know. Flying with these mystery settings makes it feel AMAZING, it's that "pzah" that X-Plane was missing before, that dept to the world.

Ok guys, usually I find the little things that make X-Plane looks cool... but this time I'm baffled. For 10 times in a row, I opened X-Plane, and the colours were AMAZING. It looked like something that was NOT X-Plane because the colours were so deep. However, now every time I open it up, all I get is this crap: boring old X-Plane colours. I would LOVE to recreate that first situation. It was amazing, it was like someone added a "make X-Plane look freaking awesome" setting. PLEASE HELP. Thanks Colin

HOWTO: Selecting DIfferent Faces for a Facade
Colin S replied to chris k's topic in Scenery Development
Thank you, that was literally the best Christmas present I got this year (other than a new car). You have made it possible for me to finish KBLI THANK YOU!!!!!! -
One last photo for the day

A slightly better daytime shot:

Slowly it comes together, bit by bit. I just finished the taxiway edge lights.

If you are referring to the copy available on X-Plane.org I would like to remind you that (1) I am banned from that community and also (2) I'm creating this one because the one that I did download from X-Plane.org felt a bit old, sort of v9.30 standard level stuff. I want to create something new, and even if there is an existing version I want to get my skills up but still be slightly useful (it's sort of like saying "but CYVR has already been built by Inside Passage" when I say it's my eternal goal, it's just not modern or current). Thanks for the heads up though! Cheers

Finally I'm getting my scenery building operation back on its feet (for the fourth time in one year). I've going to completely stop promising anything, unless I'm a great deal into it already. Period. End of story. Anyways, I started working with the Lego Bricks stuff... and wow do I ever love that... a lot! it's great! So, I decided, "I should build an airport that I'm familiar with but someone might actually want." I wanted to combine the Lego Bricks with Orthophotos, so KBLI was ideal with some decent resolution orthos available from your friendly federal government on a public domain license. I have only one picture so far, and it really shows nothing. I want to make this airport not only look real but also feel real, because I've spent more time around airports recently and I realized how dead X-Plane airports feel sometimes. Happy 2013!

Ok please tell me X-Plane hasn't somehow morphed into the real world. that looks FREAKY real. Scared me a bit.

As a Mac user myself (and not a devoted one that kills when people use Windows), I don't recommend jumping from Mac OSX straight to a Linux operating system or you will spend a good month just trying to figure out how to use the less user-friendly interface and environment.

Thank you so much I still don't know what kind of DDS to use when editing stuff :| but thank you, I'll use this info for my next project
-
Alright but will that let me convert DDS to PNG so I can actually edit them in CS5?

I live in BC, Canada, with some stunning mountains and valleys and son and so forth. Are there any orthoscenery packs hiding on the interwebs out there (sort of like a french orthoscenery provider that I only just found out about?) Even if it's payware I'll pay the price, but I love where I live and I hate having to head south for any orthimagery. I want to be able to see the rivers and the cliffs and the lakes that XP10's dreadful base scenery system didn't include. G2XPL is out of the question for reasons I don't want to explain, and Google hasn't turned up any results (yet) and I've been searching since 2007. Already have Inside Passage. Anyways, let me know if you know anything that I don't. Mr. Phrog

Ok guys DDS is getting on my nerves. I try to edit one and I save it with gimp (the only program on the face of the planet capable of doing so) and it looks fine but it won't open in X-Plane. Also, being an orthoscenery developer, I use massive images. PNG files take up a CRAP LOAD of VRAM and slow down X-Plane a lot. I want to use DDS. How does one successfully convert images to DDS? This will make my scenery 100x better and if you aren't already familiarized with it check out CZBB, it's my best one. Cheers, Colin (ie Mr. Phrog)

The Pacific Northwest Scenery Project is starting a new mega-project on top of the current mini, low detail filler projects that are intended to be able to just add to what you already have. However, I'm not skilled in every area. Texturing 3D buildings, creating AI traffic layouts, those are just a few of my weak points. Here's the mission: Create CYNJ Populate the airport with detailed and accurate 3D buildings Have ground textures up to 1in/px Include surrounding orthoimagery up to 5km. Include important 3D buildings for landmarks used in flying and for general orientation. Eventually expand to CYXX with the same qualities. And finally triangulate out to CZBB and KBLI. That could be two years coming, but start small, work to bigger goals. That's what I've learned. I need help in the following areas: 3D Object Texturing Orthoimagery Alignment AI Traffic Taxi Routes (I know so little about this stuff that I don't even know what it's called) Air Traffic Control All else I take pride in being capable of doing although help is always appreciated and suggestions will be warmly welcomed. Comment below to let me know or email me at colinjstepney@gmail.com This is the first airport in question, picture I took a week ago flying with my friend.

Calm it down, be nice. Please. Was that really necessary?

Hopefully I'll be making a WAY awesomer scenery package, IP is a bit old now.

So, since you asked... I have a map with the King George Airpark... but I can't find it on other maps. I will need to be able to do this before creating it for X-Plane Also, Blackie Spit will be part of the pack that will be available for a very low price eventually (like $1.00 to $1.75) of CYXX, CYNJ, CZZB, CYYJ, CAK3... I can't do anything as far north as CYVR, which is a pity, since that would be SO FUN. (I'm weird, I love spending days at a time staring at my computer screen manually drawing out taxiways). Give me the coordinates of the thingies you want modeled and there just MIGHT be a surprise waiting in this scenery pack! Oh, and here's another preview, further along in development... I know the approach markings are way more worn out than that but I'm not that advanced in scenery editing. PS - I intend to create 3D buildings for this scenery once my payware stuff is underway.

So folks, this is my next release from my website http://www.pnws.weebly.com/, and my final freeware, simply to demonstrate what I am capable of. (just a reminder, my scenery will always be extremely cheap, never more than $3.00, most will be under $2.00, some as low at $0.99) I intend to release the first beta on Remembrance Day (November 11th). There will be minimal 3D objects in all my scenery as I believe how it looks from the air is what is important. You can't see a bollard from 15,000 feet. This charming little airport is one of the busiest in Canada, so be warned. Also, it kind of gets in the way of CYVR a bit and has a beautiful view over the not-so-beautiful-in-real-life Mud Bay (yes that's a real name). I will eventually create image overlays to make mud bay look real as well, low priority though. I hate mud. I hate it Jacques! For more photos than what I included here, pleas visit my website and go to Downloads > CZBB PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE NOT YET CREATED A CUSTOM AIRPORT LAYOUT, THIS IS JUST THE SETTING AND THE ORTHOPHOTOS. Check the images in MY next post, they contain my custom layout. I don't have lighting set up correclty yet, I just have crappy default X-Plane stuff so far, however, I have a friend who knows this airport inside out and he will be my consultant for this one as well as langley.

Ok, here is a preview of a demo that will be released soon on this website of my upcoming payware scenery...
