Leading Edge Simulations Saab 340A Experience
mmerelles replied to arb65912's topic in General Discussion
quick question Ben: by improving gizmo / saab 340 performance, should we expect better performance from other addons that rely on gizmo such us skymaxx pro as well? -
you have to assign a key or joystick button to the "gustlock release", then once you keep holding that key/button you grab the gustlock lever with the mouse. gustlock release feature is not part of xplane, it comes with the saab 340, external assignment section look here for your reference: http://forums.x-pilot.com/topic/6122-saab-340a-questions/

It is my understanding that you use BETA mode for ground operations, power levers between grnd idle and flt idle actually controls blade angles instead of engine trust which could be difficult due to lags and turboprops nature, as such aircraft movement and taxing should be smooth and consistent. It feels to me the aircraft is not consistent during BETA mode, i.e. after landing you can set maximum blade angle and the aircraft will almost stop it takes considerable amount of blade angle to move while the aircraft is lighter compared to before-takeoff which requires minimum blade angle to move. Some times the aircraft may or may not move under the same blade angle. I am not a real pilot, i find ground operations being difficult and a bit unpredictable Maybe doing something wrong here? edit: misspelling

great waiting for the update to come alive. has the BETA mode been refined? there was some inconsistencies for taxing specially after landing to me. the update will also include new gizmo with expected performance improvement?
-
I do already practice my c172 patterns on your meigs 3.0 version. looking forward for the 4.0 version. Your work is outstanding
-
impressive, thanks a lot.
-
Never heard about that. Have you tried running the skymaxxpro installer again? it will realize it is already installed and remove it as well
-
the uninstaller should be here: /x-plane/x-aviation/
-
i am impressed great job! But please as others mentioned include this to the saab
-
Hi Igorland. The timing is just fine! I thought it was already available due to the video subject "we are airborne" jajajaja i love this plane, this app will be a great addon
-
is the app already available at the apple store? i did a search but no results. thanks!
-
unfortunately you do have to assign joystick levers to condition levers every time you load the saab, condition levers are plugin based as such assignments are missed every time you load the saab. edit: i presume the developers simulate the condition levers plugin based since xplane has no condition lever assignment. But not sure about this

@Goran_M Well my takeoffs are performing much better now, they are smooth, climb profile after 500 agl + ias climb later seems to work best Now i am perfecting my approach and landings (while i am able to touch down centered and soft, i want to be sure i am doing it right), a few questions, hopefully you can confirm: Winds calm day -While approaching i should keep a bit more speed than suggested 115 kts (120 kts), otherwise i have to pitch the nose up more to keep rate of descent at 700 fpm. As consequence runway visibility gets compromised. Is this plane supposed to approach nose up a bit more than others? i also noticed this plane cruises having the nose up a bit more than others. is it right? or am i doing something wrong on weight distribution? -What would be VREF for landing? how do you calculate it for this plane? -I have been experimenting adding payload weight on xplane menu, it like how the weight feels during climb phase, but again while landing how to calculate proper speeds to keep the plane under proper pitch levels during approach and landing? -My last question for now would be: how to you handle weight distribution, is there any tab i am missing for setting passengers or cargo in the desired position? thanks manuel -
I do have the 777 worldliner from FF, it has a custom FMC which is incredible powerful and extensively modeled close to the real thing. It has an extensive manual explaining each function from boeing and some features which are not modeled are marked in red. There is also a large base of users having a deep understanding of its capabilities which will also help you just over the 777 forums in case you have any doubts. There are also many youtube videos how to program it. I have also tried other aircraft FMCs and while the information may organized under a different logic, programming flow for entering data may be different as well, it is highly rewarding how easily you can manage it anyway since you already know what you are doing and the terminology.

Do you have any statement, timing or feedback from LR when they will (if they) provide you a better sdk or whatever is required so you can: 1. get full overcast (not ground visibility from above the layer) 2. avoid clouds being appearing from nowhere around the plane thanks!

ok i will try that as well. This seems to be such a deep well simulated aircraft, facing a steep learning curve on this bird but enjoying it a lot. -

Thanks Goran_M !!! The link was very useful, i was able to assign the release key and then move the gust lock handle. I knew you are required to keep pushing the a/p for 2-3 secs to get it activated and it does. But i am still suffering a bit of uncontrolled flight while transitioning from manual to a/p after take off. I will have to keep experimenting with the trim settings and proper power config, i also noticed i am putting too much pressure over the ailerons to keep the proper angle/speed thus having a bit of uncontrolled transition. Just for my reference and proper procedure, FD should be off or on prior to take off? -

Hi Your take off procedure is great info. I am practicing it. For a smooth transition from manual take off to A/P at 400AGL, i realized that if you take off having already activated the FD configured to IAS and HDGorNAV, then once you pass 400 AGL you activate the A/P and the transition is way smoooooth. But taking off having the FD off, then while you activate it and set everything the plane tends to level off, or pitch down. etc. which feels uncomfortable and uncontrolled. Is it wrong my approach? I can not move the GUST LOCK handler! As per your video it is required to keep holding the RELEASE slider with the mouse while you move the gust lock handler. But the mouse is busy holding the RELEASER, how do you actually move the handler? is it assigned to a key? joystick? how did you achieve that? Saitek combo here (yoke + pedals) thanks!! -
I will be happy to be a beta tester as well IMAC 27" 3.5Ghz OSX 10.9.5 NVIDIA GTX 780 4GB DDR5
-
or have a look to this video @ 1:35, how to open it and extend the stairs
-
great waiting for the new video
-
Is there any news on the saab 340 update?
-
Yes, the madeira's mesh (as stated in the readme) is critical since it sets the proper terrain elevation to suit the airport package. The scenery won´t be right on the default xp mesh.
-
yes please, do not waste time on more liveries. No matter the one i like is not listed i can do it for myself and share it, and many users will do the same as well. We want to get this fantastic bird available first already watched those awesome previews available at youtube several times

1. long range visibility 2. better ground handling. planes slides too much 3. better sdk for having better third party weather engines 4. seassons
