  1. Go lower with your settings, James. Have you got the Wilmington scenery? It could serve as the benchmark location. Go with your plane only, and try to adjust different settings. Start low, and increase if possible. And have a look at this thread and my responses (here, here, and here) it might be helpful.
  2. I'd love to have a CPU like that. I think it would do insane things to X-Plane compared to my i5 quad core.

    nVidia Titan

I'm not playing the latest high-end first person shooters, but I can tell you that Company of Heroes 2 and such really takes all the juice it can get from the CPU. All cores are running full speed. And it's lovely to see. And the game isn't so bad either.

One thing I can say, regarding other games though, is I get very good frame rates in GTA IV and Company of Heroes 2. 60 fps V-sync.

I believe it would rock your world.

Don't get me wrong. A Titan is good in its place, but I don't think X-Plane is one of them. Money is better spent on a CPU than a state of the art (and overpriced) GPU.

Barely any difference between GTX680 and Titan in my case.

    nVidia Titan

I got the Titan for my Mac Pro (work related), but it turned out the power supply couldn't cope with it, even though it's a massive 980W... Not even with an external power supply to help out.. On the most intense CUDA tasks the Mac Pro just shut down for safety.. So I swapped the Titan over to the PC - which had a GTX 680 4GB installed. The Mac Pro runs great with it. The PC and Titan, well.. Honestly.. I can't see any difference in terms of performance. So I'm thinking it's two things; 1) CPU. I've got an i5 2500K 2) Resolution. I'm using 2560x1440 To gain FPS I gotta either 1) turn down a few settings 2) lower the resolution I've been too busy working the past two weeks, and now it's too late to return the GPU to get my money back and order a GTX680 instead. I liked that one. It's been an expensive lesson. The one place the Titan really shines is CUDA intensive tasks, such as fluid dynamics simulation. It's not like I do that all the time, but the few times I do work with such, it makes a whole lot of sense to go for the Titan over the GTX680.
  9. Oh please.. Why did this turn so ugly? It's an announcement from someone who cares about the Carenado planes. Why all the fuzz. By the way, about that pop up menu problem; it happens to the FSJ Q400 and FSJ 727 as well.
  10. Bummer. There's some guilt to be laid on me too though, because it's so hard to accurately place the overlay image without proper info on things. I really wish we could have an visibility of the terrain like in Overlay Editor, while working in WED. That would help tons just to check that things are lining up with the existing terrain. The edit mode in X-Plane sucks too. I can't click-and-drag the NAVAID, I gotta place it by coordinates, which is... painstakingly slow and clumsy. So I just shortened the runway a little. Not ideal, but hey, at least the airport gets taxiways, apron, GA parking and gates now as opposed to just a runway.
  11. I must say, those C and O buttons are rather unstable. I had another flight before I went to bed last night, and those buttons don't work every time it seems. They work when they want to. Not that I needed to use the features hidden behind them, but it's a defect.. The 4K paint kit looks like it's only an upscale of the 2K paint kit, thus pixelated details. It's also got a few strange banding issues. And shouldn't a paint kit come in layers, so grime and dirt and stuff would rest on top of the paint instead of the paint being multiplied on top of such details, thus mostly hiding it?
  12. Yeah, got my C172 a few days ago, and just installed the F33A which I'll take for a spin right now. Edited The overlay buttons to control field of view, open doors and such does not work. They work on the C172. They don't even fold open to show me the options when I click the graphic in the lower left. Oh! Worked when I restarted X-Plane. Note that they have included 4K paint kit.
  13. So that means I'm not able to edit this in WED?
  14. I'm fiddling with WED again. And in the end of the runway, this feature appears. I have no idea what it is, but I think it must be tied to the runway itself. So how I get rid of this?
  15. If you can, get another set of TQ. Those extra levers really help with multi engine operations!
  16. Time to stop flying by mouse and keyboard, and actually bring up the yoke and 6 levers of TQ!
  17. Since he posted in the CRJ category I guess it's about the CRJ.
  18. These days it's a lot of Cities in Motion 2. I love to watch how my decisions and design impacts the traffic flow. Other than that I like to play strategy games in general. Such as Company of Heroes (and soon CoH2!) and Sim City. I play Minecraft now and then when I'm bored and run a server my 12 year old sister and her friends can play on, and I help them with redstone related things. I don't like first person shooters where you're running around like crazy and shoot at anything, yet I haven't developed a big interest in Arma either. So I've always been playing on "tactical realism" servers for CoD4, CoD:WAW, and now Battlefield 3.
  19. I let the controlling problems be up to each individual. I tell you, this would be tons more awesome than TrackIR and such. The "feeling" of being inside the cockpit would be insane. The devkit pricing is at $300.. They are aiming for the gaming enthusiast. At home. No 250K budget needed. (and that was Battlefield 3 by the way, using Kinect and projectors)
  20. I present to you, Oculus Rift. How I'd love for this to work with X-Plane (among other simulators or first person games).
  21. I installed the Inspector once, but removed it quickly after. All it did was adjust the game settings, just like I could adjust them through the in-game menus. Games such as Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, and Battlefield 3 to mention a few worked like this. And it switched down or off a few features I really liked, while switching on motion blur and the likes that I rather switch OFF because I don't like motion blur while moving around. I'd rather adjust these settings directly in the game, and if needed, make specific profiles in the GeForce control panel. The Inspector smelled like a typical "most end users don't know much about the games, let's simplify the procedure". And good for them. Luckily it's not a must to have it installed in order to use the GeForce GPU.
  22. My answer is right here. When I tested without HDR, I used 4x AA. The rest is mentioned in that post as well.
  23. So, you're flying with 4x SSAA? Gotta test that then.
  24. I just tested with and without HDR. I flew the Duchess from KSEA for about 1min 30 sek. Then I went to replay mode, and benchmarked the replay as it was playing 60 seconds of it. Each time from the same point of time. I did nothing to manipulate the view, it was 3D cockpit and looking forward. Here's my findings. HDR OFF - 4x antialiasingFrames: 1759 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 29.317 - Min: 24 - Max: 33 HDR ON - 2x SSAA + FXAAFrames: 1575 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 26.250 - Min: 24 - Max: 29 HDR ON - 4x SSAA + FXAAFrames: 1293 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 21.550 - Min: 19 - Max: 24 Tested with these settings. Only HDR/antilaiasing were changed. 1920x1080 windowed mode.
  25. glenner, that kind of proves the thing about CPU vs GPU right there. Even on one single monitor at that resolution and those settings, you still don't get higher fps rates. The GPU kicks in good when you're on the triple monitor setup I guess, since you're not going lower on fps than you do. I honestly don't think the Titan will be worth it if you're looking for a performance boost in X-Plane. I really, REALLY wish it was possible to utilize CUDA (don't know too much about OpenCL, sorry!). I'm using several apps that utilize CUDA, and I can switch off the CUDA processing so it's all done on the CPU. The GPU can run loops around the CPU as it's done hundreds of times faster. That being said, I always look to optimize games or sims to run at 30+. Preferably 50-60fps.
