  1. Hi, I am currently working on a Dutch airport, Eindhoven (EHEH) which is a civil airport and also a MIl airforce base. Altough most of the airport operation is civil nowadays, the airport is still controlled by the Dutch Airforce. In fact the airport started as a MIL base only in the past. It is the homebase of the KC10 tankers which regularly are used for instruction flights as well, very nice as you can see those big aircraft taking off and practicing touch and goes many times. Very nice when RWY 22 is in use and sitting at the spotters place This is a work in progress and not finished yet. For me it's my first attempt into scenery design so the learning curve has been very steep. I was so disapointed there was no good XP10 compatible EHEH, so I decided to take a chance in designing it myself. I must say that I'm very inspired by the work of Frede as he makes very nice airport using only common available objects. To start with I purchased the FS2004 version of EHEH from OryxSim and converted it using FS2XPlane hoping that something usefull cam out, and actually it did. I asked Florian, the owner of OryxSim, if he could grand me the rights to use the objects specifically for this airport and he did. So besides a lot of Openscenery,RuScenery and legobrick items quite a number of EHE special objects have been used making it a 'real' eindhoven version, e.g. the terminal and a lot of logistical buidlings on the business side of the airport. I'm posting a few pictures here from the Military side as well as the civil side of the airport. I tried to stick to reality as much as possible but as this is a MIL facility there is not much information available and googlemaps is blurred for security reasons. So, I allowed myself some 'creative freedom' there where necessary. Even visiting the airport (I'm living very near it) does not give much more info besides of the Civil Apron, the rest of it is heavily unaccesable. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

  2. Some of you might already know it, others might not even care. Sim City is coming in 2013. There have been harsh criticism on the EA and Maxis forums about lacking information about how it will be in-game. Interviews with sound engineers and producers haven't been all that interesting for the community. Many have asked for an in-game video of what the game looks and feels like. Yesterday, they uploaded a video. And I'm nothing but impressed. It looks intuitive, informative, and plain awesome. The interface is slick and sexy, the overlay info graphics are a great way to show what's going on.

  3. I realise everyone has their point of view and also of what features they would like implementing into XP; I'm not disputing this or trying to say they should not have those opinions. My point of view is as a developer who would like to see XP10 develop into the best PC flight sim on the market(if it's not already ). As a developer I would like to see highly professional airports/airbases/planes/scenery, etc, etc..... of which there are very few examples compared to all packages available; Those few exceptions are fantastic examples of what can be acheived with XP 10, and this can only get better as time goes by. But would you buy a top quality paint set that came without top quality paint brushes? I think you'd be disappointed, yes? And this is all I'm saying about XP(Planemaker/WED Tools), is that they should include the ability to at least import standard professional dev tool file formats, ie: .fbx, etc, etc, and then convert them into the file format XP10 requires in the final build. And this should have been done as part of the initial development process of XP10 together with all the beta technical writing updates(for the manuals/tutorials) and beta dev tool updates before XP10 beta was released(This is what I call being professional). This would allow for a very productive and efficient dev process for professional developers and amatures alike. And if LR need to charge a little more for XP10 to enable them to do this, then so be it. Good flight sims are a niche market item and those people will always be willing to pay a little more for a good product. As far as relying on third party community developers for plugins - The problem with that process is that we could be waiting six months or more for the plugin which then is quite often unstable and does not support all features or support the latest version of the software your using.... Again we're left up in the air wondering if and when a plugin will become available, if at all. Don't get me wrong; Community plugin developers are absolutely fantastic people.... I'm just pointing out the big disadvantages of waiting for a quality community created plugin to become available, if at all. PS: If your going to quote me, then please quote the whole entry, don't parse my forum entries.... Parsing single/part sentences out of a paragraph is for gutter press journalists.... It takes what people say out of context and readers can easily come to the wrong conclusion about what people are actually talking about. Thanks Hawk.

  4. so i have been working on the ground textures for awhile and the result is pretty good, i just need to add more of a worn out look on the taxiway, and add runway markings, and add grass decals in v9 using .pols...after doing all those i will start with modelling other facilities, plus do something that will make the airport feel active

  5. thanks Kaphias, i have updated the ground markings, the lines are thinner and the resolution is sharper- and the terminal area itself as well also, the terminal itself has been lowered, the height is pretty off the scale, as well the gates are also modified so it will have a wider spacing between the walls of the walkway... actually, that doesn't make sense so let the pictures do the talking
