Simmo W Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 just thought I'd create a home for us gamers who might try other gaming distractions in-between x-planing. Could be an exciting year, what with Gran Turismo 5 coming out (1000 cars!!) and now this....I can remember the feeling when Wolfenstein came out, a momentous event, a 'game-changer'. same with Doom, Half Life and Gran Turismo 1. a big revolution. Now I just played this on the iPhone 3GS. so smooth, so beautiful, another memorable first play, to herald this yrs game changer Quote
PhM Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 ... what with Gran Turismo 5 coming out (1000 cars!!)....I'll believe it when I see it, been waiting for sooooo long.PhM Quote
Airbus Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 I'm not a video game person, but Gran Turismo 5 is the only reason I own a PlayStation3! Quote
Kaphias Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 I'll be buying a PS3 just for GT5. Can't wait! Quote
OlaHaldor Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 The only reason I bought a PS3 was so my girlfriend and I could game together. She's already been playing Little Big Planet for a year, so I got it too. And now we have Tekken to beat the crap out of each other instead of taking it to the physical level... ;DAnd after seeing , I'm looking forward to the future of God games. As for existing games I play now in-between X-Plane scenery development and work, you'll find titles like Tropico 3, Locomotion, Settlers 7, GTA IV and first person shooters like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and CoD:Modern Warfare 2. Simmo W Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 Looks like an amazing game that From Dust. Ha, I think I'm almost 20 yrs older than you Ola, and you're going through all the game types I went through 10 yrs ago. I loved the first GTA for PS2, I once made a buddy walk out because I was a little trigger happy with the sniper rifle & headshots! Good strategy with the partner, involve her so you can get in some good gaming. I haven't bought a PS3 game for 18 months, except for one for the 4yo first officer. I'm using the ps3 as a bluray player, HD recorder and web surfing. But when GT5 comes out, it'll get hot again. Quote
scubajuan Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 I saw this a few years ago and thought it was quite interesting. Biofeedback hardware to interact with the game Quote
Simmo W Posted September 26, 2010 Author Report Posted September 26, 2010 F1 2010 for PS3/XB 360 is looking very good! and raindrops seem to be the gaming flavor of the year.http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=0Ct5ekRDUAMWow, watching the Singapore GP Live now, night racing, reminds me' of the new lit streets in xplane! Simmo W Posted September 26, 2010 Author Report Posted September 26, 2010 bugger that vid, this ones even better! Quote
-TheoGregory Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 Im gonna buy a playstation 3 purely to crash cars virtually after looking at that. Quote
Simmo W Posted September 26, 2010 Author Report Posted September 26, 2010 Im gonna buy a playstation 3 purely to crash cars virtually after looking at that.thought someone would say that, pretty impressive eh! I'm gonna dust off my ps3 controllers in a few months when it goes platinum and half price ;D Forums say it's not as perfect handling wise as the imagery, but who cares. My old pastime of 'let's see what happens when I drive in the opposite direction' has new meaning now!as for Granturismo 5 , I'll get that on day 1http://eu.gran-turismo.com/au/news/d14686.html Quote
Simmo W Posted October 2, 2010 Author Report Posted October 2, 2010 The Best Wife in the World just got me F1 2010 for PS3. ;DGraphics are incredible, gobsmacking dare I say, watch me crash as I drool over the most faithful reproduction of the Melbourne Grand Prix circuit I've ever seen. It's a good example of eyecandy vs. realism. It's not a full sim (I think, I'm a bit rusty on the old F1 driving experience), but deep enough to be a challenge, with the fluidity and details enough to make you feel like you're really there (sans G Forces, sheer adranaline/terror and potential death at every turn..). Watch the line markings speed up/down in the replays, it's a good sign of a smoothly drawn sim Quote
AnonymousUser68 Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 As a Melbourne resident who goes to the F1 that looks so real. As you went through the course every single building was accurate and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. One day I'm going to get a PS3. Quote
Simmo W Posted October 28, 2010 Author Report Posted October 28, 2010 This $5 app even allows export into Blender! I think I might make the ugliest plane ever with this. Still, it shows early potential. If they eventually get decent rulers and straight edges inbuilt, I'd give it a go for scenery.http://www.geeks3d.com/20100827/idough-3d-sculpture-for-ipad/ Quote
dan Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Pretty cool app Simon! But I guess it's only useful for a more artistical approach to modelling, like modelling humans and organic shapes. Accuracy is probably not its biggest selling point, making it nearly impossible to model a building or an airplane accurately, but I might be wrong? Quote
Simmo W Posted October 28, 2010 Author Report Posted October 28, 2010 No idea yet Dan, but it's only version one and Im more fascinated with the potential for portability and multiple touch. You're right though, accuracy is obviously paramount, for most devs at least! Quote
Jack Skieczius Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 nice find Simon. really interesting.I think i will stick to Modo though.I am waiting for the day i can take my hands in free air and start manipulating polygons in screen with them like clay. that would be sweet. Quote
Ben Russell Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Take some pottery classes. Blender is easier by far. There is no undo button in reality. That said, the automakers still turn to clay for final tweakage at real life scales, visualization you just cant do any other way. Quote
Simmo W Posted November 9, 2010 Author Report Posted November 9, 2010 No probs jack, it's pretty useless, just a bit of $5 fun. And not exactly accurate/uniform! The kid likes it though, and saves on cleaning bills. Amazing possibilities for the future though. Quote
Ben Russell Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 I grabbed a copy for mucking around with when a real modellers not available. So far all I seem to do is break the mesh engine Quote
