JohnMAXX Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Now that we have the SDK setup for more detailed clouds I am working on texturing.......This isn't as simple as pasting high resolution cloud images, and I am finally starting to get the desired effect..... OK here are a couple of comparisons so you can see the differences in V1 and V2... And some shots around town I would like to share.... 9 Quote

marcc Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 So beautiful! The increased sharpness looks awesome. The clouds I'm seeing right now by looking out of the window look just like the new V2 clouds. The white coloration is spot on. Can't wait!! 1 Quote
sqrt(-1) Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 I like it! But just don't make the clouds too sharp. Then they start looking artificial again. Quote

Hey no worries........this is the best of both worlds......SilverLining and its volumetric clouds with some of the finer details integrated for more realism........ Clouds like this have never been implemented into any simulator......People who own V1 already know what I am talking about 3 Quote
Fabrice R. Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Hi John Thanx you very much for Skymaxx. I have used it with great pleasure for some months, and can't wait to try this new one The most exciting for me is to see that this non stoping project, with many updates, trying to be better at each version. Ok, there's some minor improvements to add (already said inside others topics, no need to repeat them here), but i have full confidence in your job and the way you seem to go. Friendly, Fab Quote
Jesse Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 The new HD look looks great! Just as long as we don't start to see repetition in the textures. I have the "newest texture add-on" for FSX and about twice already I've seen 2 of the same clouds next to each other. Fantastic work John! Quote
JohnMAXX Posted May 7, 2014 Author Report Posted May 7, 2014 To be honest we are working with a limited set of textures and you may see an image repeat from time to time, but it is hardly noticable. We did include enough variety and it works well.....see above^^ 1 Quote
JohnMAXX Posted May 7, 2014 Author Report Posted May 7, 2014 Hey heads up I am also working on adding a bunch of new sky colors to SkyMAXX V2 this one I call "Red Dawn" Each set with have a High/Medium/& Low variant.........So for every sky color set you get three options....... 5 Quote

nol Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 It looks stunning indeed. I have installed V1 since the beginning. It changes EVERYTHING!thank you for that. All the best, 1 Quote
marty2756 Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 SkyMaxx v2 will have to wait until 10.30 go final right ? Quote
skiflyzander Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 John, Any chance we can see some stormy looking screenshots? Flew through some awesome patchy storms in the New Hampshire area yesterday in a 402c (not in the sim) and the view was breathtaking. Quite a cool flight. I'm curious how the new textures represent patchy storms! Quote
ianrivaldosmith Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 will V2 have cloud shadows in the 10.3 run? Quote
Cameron Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 will V2 have cloud shadows in the 10.3 run? As has been covered many times, no, it will not. Quote
ianrivaldosmith Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 Any particular reason why not? Its seems crazy not too..... Quote
Cameron Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 Any particular reason why not? Its seems crazy not too..... Please take the time to read posts on this subject. You'll quickly learn it is not within our control. Quote
ointment Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 Okay, I admit I've had a bit of bourbon tonight, but I'm still going to pose the question. If cloud shadows work without SkyMAXX, but with SkyMAXX installed they don't work, how is it that it is not within your control? If Laminar can create cloud shadows why can't you? I'm truly curious. Not trying to argue or offend, but truly curious. I've read through a bunch of the other SkyMAXX threads, but it is still unclear as to why SkyMAXX does not, or cannot, produce cloud shadows. Quote
JohnMAXX Posted May 28, 2014 Author Report Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) Very simply ointment in order to have cloud shadows we will need to be able to draw the clouds twice, once in the sky and once on the ground in the form of shadows. We do not have any access in the SDK to do this. We are not pulling the wool over your eyes, trust me Id love to implement them into SkyMAXX, all I can say is hope for something in the future and enjoy SMP as it stands.....
