Jakob Ludwig Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 John, I just say "WOW" ! Skymaxx Pro is bringing XP10 to a new level. Great piece of art and programming. I like the clouds, rays and the sky colours. The UI is superb to make changes on the fly. And frames are pretty here! For me there are just a few things left to be implemented, maybe: 1. Cloud shadows casting onto ground2. Dynamic change in drawing distance of the clouds, referred to current XP Performance (maybe measured by FPS). So the lower the FPS are, cloud draw distance is lowered automatically. User can define the FPS barrier Once again, great work on this. Quote

MercuryMat Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 The cloud shadows on ground are visible if you enable global shadows in X-Plane settings... 1 Quote
MercuryMat Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 But the big problem is HDR... Disabling it I go from 25 fps to....80!!! Quote
JohnMAXX Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 But the big problem is HDR... Disabling it I go from 25 fps to....80!!!Im pretty sure the same results will happen without SkyMAXX, thats HDR guys...... Quote
Jakob Ludwig Posted November 24, 2013 Author Report Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) Im pretty sure the same results will happen without SkyMAXX, thats HDR guys...... On my System. I lose around 10FPS changing to HDR, which is my default setup. So HDR is and always was a frame hitter. Specs:i7 3770kGTX 660Ti16 GB RAM Edited November 24, 2013 by Jaggo82 Quote

MercuryMat Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Ok, I did some tests with HDR ON and reducing AntiAliasing to 2x makes a big difference. I found a good balance with this settings: Cloud detali: 75%Drawing Distance: 100%Cloud Size (min/max): both 50%Puff rotation: DISABLEDCrepuscular rays: DISABLEDTexture Resolution/Quality: 2 I really hope the dev team will soon make an update for a better HDR support (I know they are working on it so I do not want to put "pepper on your back"!!!) and some others tweaks to make a bit less fps impacting. In the meantime my last evaluation is positive even if not extremely-positive. The X-Plane weather seems much better with this plugin in any case. 3 Quote
MSFS Ralf Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) Another "wow" from me. After two flights I must say XP is at a new level now. Together with Urban Maxx Extreme this is the most important add on. Gesendet von meinem GT-I9100 mit Tapatalk 2 Edited November 25, 2013 by Ralf Maylin 1 Quote

pryoski Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) Wow ... it took a while of playing with the settings. HOWEVER for me, this package is worth the price for the fps increase alone .... with HDR turned on, I now get between mid 30's to high 40's! **Word of CAUTON** Your mileage WILL vary regarding my FPS increase claim, because you have to be circumspect with what gets turned off and what you leave on. You WILL have to make informed choices. I believe I have a good balance of plausibility + natural beauty and smooth flying to make it an enjoyable and 'realistic' flying experience for me. Note that I let my video card hardware handle all the anti-aliasing & anisotropic settings etc ... and I use the most minimal settings of same in XP rendering menu. This works for me and I don't get jaggies ... and I used to get around 30 fps in most areas .. dropping to around 25 in big city areas. I haven't tried with the SAAB yet, but I'm sure that it'll bring me back to reality ... however, it's sure to be an improvement to what it's been previously (looking forward to that update I can tell you!). SkyMaxx is glorious .. and it's eliminated the closed in claustrophobic feel of standard X-Plane! CONGRATS on a fine product! As my FSX cousins would say ... this is one of theose WOW things that is a game changer .. and now it's an indispensable part of my flying environment lol! MSFS Ralf Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 I have not tested with HDR enabled but I could tune up my objects settings and have more fps than before-great. Gesendet von meinem GT-I9100 mit Tapatalk 2 Quote
Jakob Ludwig Posted November 25, 2013 Author Report Posted November 25, 2013 The cloud shadows on ground are visible if you enable global shadows in X-Plane settings... I can not confirm it by now. Which Global shadow setting setting do you have active in your rendering settings? Low, Medium, High? Quote
MercuryMat Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 One of the 3 is the same, you can see shadows on ground 1 Quote
T50 Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Sunset, HDR is OFF. Clouds are black. Is it normal? Quote
AtomicFrawg Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 I think that has to do with the way X-plane does shadows. I am not sure if that is an issue with skymaxx. Quote
Cameron Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 I think that has to do with the way X-plane does shadows.Correct! Quote
sundog Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Sunset, HDR is OFF. Clouds are black. Is it normal? In that scene, I think the sun is below the horizon, and there is very little moonlight. Clouds can get weirdly dark in that situation (see http://pictures.4ever.eu/data/674xX/aviation/aircraft/boeing-kc-135-stratotanker,-afganistan,-clouds,-twilight,-airport-161467.jpg for an example.) zzap_v Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 can someone post a screenshot with shadows from the clouds on the ground? Quote
MercuryMat Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 You know what? I was unable to replicate the shadows...the first time I loaded x-plane with SMP i had A LOT of clouds shadows, but next time (and still) no more!!! Quote
