In x-plane i work on a imac G5 and when i am in the chase view the fps is really slow and when i am in the 3d pit it is slow too!

Why?

Maxime,

It would help if you could let us know what your computer specs are, as well as your x-plane settings.

Thanks,

Jim

Well here they are, iMac G5, PowerMac12,1, PowerPC G5 (3.1), 2.1 GHz, 512 MB, 700 MHz.

What i meant is in the 2D cockpit the frame rate is 20-40. And sometimes in chase view it's 20-30 but it lags alot, when i zoom in alot it's slow, and when i zoom out it is fast. Some times the 3D pit is fast but most of the time it's slow.

Hi, Maxime,

Your hardware is getting pretty old, so I'm not sure I can even be of too much assistance here, but, try this:

1. Open X-Plane and open the Corvalis

2. Go to the rendering settings menu

3. De-select the checkbox to keep X-Plane at full screen

4. Close the window and view your FPS.

6. Go back to rendering settings and select the checkbox again for full screen.

This is usually chalked up to a video driver issue, but it's going to be relatively hard to provide support for a card that old. Hopefully the above will have some kind of positive effect for you, but if not it may be time for an upgrade someday soon in the future! ;)

Yes Maxime is right - sometimes xplane provide very bad framerates with the C400. Not all the time it is changing but I do not find a reason for this. today I landed on EDDH 05 with around 19fps and the xplane provided fog (which means the fps are below 19). I went back to the beginning of the 05 and load the C400 again on the same RW with the same weather and the framerate was 30fps all of the sudden it went to 19 and back to 30 where it stays now. I know this kind of behaviour from the ufmc plugin - sometimes there is a opengl failure and the framerate goes down - you can survive wtih opening another opengl application and close it again most of the time the framerate in xplane goes back to a normal value. here in the C400 it smells like a similar opengl problem.

I do not think this "trick" will work in with the C400

Hi, Tom,

No, we don't. If it's OpenGL, it would be OpenGL from X-Plane itself and not the aircraft, as the plug-in contains no OpenGL.

Unfortunately we're not able to reproduce this as some of you have.

Posted

I also can't tell how to reproduce this. It "just happens sometimes". I have seen some behaviour like this with the first version of the Goose by ddenn, too. It vanished with the last update, so my guess would be that he maybe knows what the probem was.

But as it occurs for me only with the UFMC and your C400 - it must be something between the C400 and xplane. And I ask you kindly to try to solve this problem maybe with the help of Xplane developers. I as the paying cutomer have no chance to solve this.

Hi, Tom,

And while this may only happen with the two products for you, it doesn't happen to me, or any other developer associated to the project.

I have already talked to Laminar about this, and with their busy schedule were willing to take a look. They too are unable to reproduce this and have said they feel it may be some form of a video driver issue. There are just too many possibilities.

I'm sorry, Tom, but until any of us are going to be able to reproduce this, then it's going to be truly hard to say where or who the problem lies with and why. There's not much we can do right at this moment.

hi cameron,

it is not me alone - I did not open this threat. If you want to know more then ask me maybe we can find out why this happens to me and some other people. but only to say sorry this is not enough for somebody who wants to sell the best payware for xplane and who claims that his software is full compatible to xplane 9.5whatever. I have a pretty fast machine and this issue has nothing to do with the xplane prefs and it happens only with YOUR C400 and the ufmc (as I told I konw a solution for the ufmc). as I made the Fokker F100 WS which you find on the .org I know that some fonts are creating big problems and the biggest problems if they are antialised. jim used a lot of fonts in his panel I am sure there you can increase framerate but maybe not solve this problem. it is very weird I am on 30fps and all of the sudden it goes to 19 or less and sometimes after a while it comes back to 30+ sometimes not and the xplane fog is coming. today I will try the new whql driver from nvidia. if you are interested I will let you know if it is going to be better or not. but I am sure there is an issue with the C400!

thnx and cheers tom

I'm also affected by this issue! I also can't reproduce it every time, but after flying for a while, maybe for a hour or more, the frames drop to 19 fps.

To restore my frames I need to reload the aircraft. This happens only with the C400.

Nevertheless, the Corvalis is a great bird and I enjoy to fly it!

hi cameron,

it is not me alone - I did not open this threat. If you want to know more then ask me maybe we can find out why this happens to me and some other people.

I can recognize and appreciate that it is not only you, Tom. I can also recognize that it's not the majority, and it's not every time the aircraft is loaded on every machine out there.

but only to say sorry this is not enough for somebody who wants to sell the best payware for xplane

I say I'm sorry, because I am. These kinds of things are frustrating, even more so when I or other developers including Laminar can't duplicate the issue you speak of.

and who claims that his software is full compatible to xplane 9.5whatever.

It loads in 9.5, does it not? It flies in 9.5, does it not? The aircraft is compatible just as is "claimed." No one is being deceiving here. FPS and compatibility are two different things.

I have a pretty fast machine and this issue has nothing to do with the xplane prefs and it happens only with YOUR C400 and the ufmc (as I told I konw a solution for the ufmc).

And again, I'm still unable to reproduce this. So I must ask, if I can't reproduce the same problem on multiple machines, is it really a problem with these two addons alone, or something on the various machines (like drivers)? So, Is it driver specific, or is it not? I can't place blame on anything at the moment.

today I will try the new whql driver from nvidia. if you are interested I will let you know if it is going to be better or not.

Yes, I will be interested.

All the above said, I'm NOT saying I don't care. What I'm telling you is that without something I or any other developer can reproduce, it's going to be very hard to give an answer for this. It's time to get off of defensive mode, Tom. The attacking portion of "If you care," "If you want to be," or insinuating I don't give any form of sympathetic view on this is far from the truth. If you want to help with the tracking down of this that's plenty okay. However, the accusatory remarks need to stop now.

Same here. I usually get Framerates in the low 30´ies, but sometimes Framerate drops to 19 fps. This happens randomly so this is difficult to reproduce. Reloading ACF and the problem is gone.

And I agree, appart from the problem above - great plane!

For those experiencing this issue:

The following is a questionnaire to try and help narrow this down. Please answer the following (please do not reply to this unless your high FPS drops down to 19):

Before answering, please try the following procedure the next time you have low fps:

1. Open X-Plane and open the Corvalis

2. Go to the rendering settings menu

3. De-select the checkbox to keep X-Plane at full screen

4. Close the window and view your FPS.

5. Go back to rendering settings and select the checkbox again for full screen.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. When does the FPS drop usually occur? Upon load of aircraft, midway through a flight, or random?

2. What happens when you go to a different view? Do your FPS improve?

3. Does this always occur in the same view? If so, which one (Cockpit, exterior, 3D)?

4. Did you try the procedure in bold above this questionnaire? Did your FPS improve after?

5. What operating system are you on?

6. What video card do you have?

7. If on Windows, what video card driver version are you using (n/a if on Mac)?

8. Please list your system specs (CPU, RAM).

Thanks for your time!

Hi Cameron,

had just a FPS drop again, while flying around with the C400 today. First thing I did was to select / de-select the full screen checkbox in x-plane rendering settings menu – without success (Started x-plane with de-select full screen checkbox). So lets try to answer your questions:

1. The FPS drop occured after rd. 70 min. flight time after departing from an airfield. Had done several landings on other airfields before without any issues.

2. The FPS increased to good 40-50 fps when zooming out in chase view, drop back to 19 fps when zooming in the plane. Also had 21-22 fps in 2D cockpit view.

3. Always occur in 3D Cockpit and chase view

4. yes, no improve

My specs: iMac 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB, Mac OS X 10.6.3, X-Plane 9.45

BTW: After reloading the plane I had another issue. The soft keys of the Garmin on left side of the cockpit have no longer works, so I could not switch to another mode. Anybody else had this?

I hope this was helpful for you!

Same i have exactly the same problem with the fps. And the Garmin g1000.

Hope this gets fixed soon! ;D

I'm sorry I can't make the screen size test now, but:

1. Random. But until now never after loading the plane. In fact, (re-)loading the plane is the solution to the problem.

2. 19fps in 3D cockpit, around 20 in 2D cockpit, with chase view deluxe immediately up to around 30 again (in all outside views when zooming away a bit).

3. only realized it in 3D cockpit view until now, but that says nothing, because I am almost always in the 3D pit.

4. no. And as far as I can tell from my experience with the first version of the Goose, it won't help.

5. Snow Leopard.

6. NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS

Sorry Cameron if you feel hurt - thats not what I want - the only thing what I wanted is that you take care of the demands of a paying customer - not an answer with: sorry we cannot. And as I see down on this page you started your offensive with asking questions to track this problem.

Thank you - I will answer your questions as soon as I have this issue again.

I made a testflight of 20min with the new and latest whql nvidia driver for the gtx285. I had an short issue that the fps went down from 30 to 19 inflight but before I could start the tests it went back to 30 where it stayed for the rest of this short flight. all this in the 3D cockpit view.

By the way as the others said - nice plane - indeed.

Best Tom

in chase view it was a bit better but not significant - still foggy

3. Does this always occur in the same view? If so, which one (Cockpit, exterior, 3D)?

everytime in 3D view / never use 2D view in this plane

4. Did you try the procedure in bold above this questionnaire? Did your FPS improve after?

yes - no change

5. What operating system are you on?

Win7 / 64Bit

I've had some further discussion with Laminar on this issue, and we'd like some more diagnostics done. Here's what we'd like from those experiencing this issue:

1. When the FPS are down to a low level, please state what your FPS are in: 3D view, 2D view, Exterior view, and Forward No HUD view.

2. What is your CPU usage when your FPS are low?

One important test in addition to the above:

Turn your texture resolution down one level. Restart the simulator and see if the low FPS can be reproduced again. The point of this test is to help see if this is a resource exhaustion.

Thanks!
