Flying over the beautiful hills of the Lake Del Valle recreation area, northeast of the city of San Jose. The water reflection and atmospheric effects of X-Plane 10 are amazing with photo-based scenery.

Flying over Redding, California, population 90,000. Redding is surrounded by mountains on the north, east, and west, with agricultural farm lands to the south. In this image, the Sacramento River is on the right. Enterprise High School is below and to the right of the airplane. The Redding municipal airport (KRDD) is in the background to the upper left. The major highway seen on the right side of the image is Interstate 5, the major north-south highway on the U.S. west coast, which stretches from Canada to Mexico.

Flying over Tomales Bay, just a few minutes flying time north of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay Area. The Point Reyes National Seashore nature reserve is to the right as we head south toward the Bay Area in the early morning. The Nicasio Reservoir is in the distance on the left.

Is the terrain mesh a higher overall resolution than the default X-Plane scenery?

With fantastic imagery such as this it's hard to tell one way other other...

Just curious.

Thanks again for your nice comments! RealScenery uses 1/3 and 1/9 arc second elevation data, which is roughly an elevation point every 30ft/10m (1/3 arc second) and 9ft/3m (1/9 arc second), which renders very nicely in-sim. Laminar has to produce scenery on a world-wide basis, so they have probably taken the approach of using a courser (less detailed) resolution, so they have the same consistency of detail world-wide.

A beautiful sunset flight over the South Bay as the city lights just start to turn on and mix with the natural daylight. The city below is the San Jose and Milpitas area, looking north.

The city of Red Bluff, in far northern California, is a small city positioned along the Sacramento River, about 30 miles / 48 kilometers south of Redding. This flight is transitioning from south to north, flying over the Red Bluff Municipal Airport (KRBL). The Sacramento River is in the background, along with the bridges of Antelope Boulevard and Interstate-5.

Flying north toward the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (KSJC). The colorful salt evaporators of south San Francisco Bay are visible in the distance. The Interstate-880 freeway, also known as the Nimitz freeway, is seen as the dominant roadway on the south side of the airport, near the bottom of the image.

Heading south over the town of Dixon, located between the cities of Sacramento and San Francisco. The two dominant transportation features are Interstate-80 on the right side of the image and railroad on the left. The cities in the distance are Vacaville and Fairfield. Travis Air Force Base is in the far upper left of the image and is home to C-5 Galaxies, KC-10 Extenders, and C-17 Globemaster aircraft.

An early morning flight looking south from the city of San Jose toward the cities of Morgan Hill and Gilroy. Highway 101, also known as El Camino Real, is the dominant roadway on the left side of the image as it extends south from the large interchange with Interstate-280 in the lower left. The Santa Cruz mountains are visible on the right in the early morning sun.

Fantastic eye candy, I feel like I'm watching those endless billboard TV commercials [just kidding]

it looks great!  I feel Austin's "plausible world" is somewhat of a joke. I think he should've stuck to the real world. His plausible world Is probably the greatest mistake he has made with this program. But that won't stop me from flying it everyday. I've seen many posts on other forums which people wished he would use X Terra or something similar. In spite of the fact he does not like ortho photos I find they are the only way to fly VFR from point A to point B and know where the hell you're going by way of recognizable landmarks.

Thank you both for the nice comments!

To keep this forum focused on NorCal screenshots, leading up to release, I've started a new topic to address plausibility.

Thank you but it was not necessary to start a new topic with my post.

If I had gone off topic I apologize.

I also noticed that you misquoted me in the forum topic anyway. It was not my intention to start a whole plausibility debate as that has been done already. I was merely trying to elucidate why I would prefer your scenery over the plausible scenery. So please close out the other topic unless you wish to start one on your own.

Thank you

Jim
