hiddenace Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 I was flying my beloved DC-3 in the frozen regions of Alaska. It started snowing and i immediately knew i was in icing conditions. I turned on wing boots and engine ant-ice 30 min later i heard a large snap and my plane became uncontrollable. and plummeted to the ground. does anti-ice work on this bird?
Goran_M Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 Anti Ice does work, but on one side only. This is a confirmed X-Plane bug as it happens in the default aircraft as well.It has been logged and acknowledged by Laminar and a fix will be issued in a forthcoming X-Plane update.Apologies for this. Goran
tkyler Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 (edited) Anti Ice does work, but on one side only This should be fixed in the latest version, beta 7, I tested it on the King Air the other day to confirm. Also there now exists new, individual anti-icing dataref arrays for wing surface heat and engine inlet heat. These should be incorporated into multi-engine aircaft that have individual icing control for each side wing and engine inlet. TomK Edited December 15, 2012 by tkyler

hiddenace Posted December 15, 2012 Author Report Posted December 15, 2012 Another flight down the drain this is Annoying! if Beta 7 fixed it is there an update for a mod for the DC-7 that will fix it!
tkyler Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 (edited) Another flight down the drain this is Annoying! if Beta 7 fixed it is there an update for a mod for the DC-7 that will fix it! It depends upon which datarefs the authors used for the de-icing. Certainly it is worth a "double check". also to add how do i know ice is building is there any visual indicators? No visual indicators, but there is an indicator you can use. Go to the menu item "Settings > Data Input and Output". This will bring up a screen with lots of checkboxes on it. Checkboxes number 125 and 126 on the last column on the right are the icing status variables. Check the right most checkboxes on each of these "icing status" lines. Then when you close the window, you will see some numbers in the upper left corner of X-Plane. These numbers are ratios from 0 - 1 that indicates how much ice is accumulating. In icing conditions, these numbers will steadily increase. When you turn on de-icing, then the numbers should decrease. Above the numbers, you will see descriptions. When you see the same description twice, like "inlet inlet". The first one is usually the left side and the second one is the right side. I just confirmed on the King Air in beta 7, that "independent side deicing" works; HOWEVER, I think the King Air in beta 7 is borked for other reasons not related to ice so some of the switches may not work on the King Air....but X-Plane itself does have both sides de-icing independently now. -TomK Edited December 15, 2012 by tkyler
Goran_M Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 I'll check the new datarefs and add them today. Cameron will have an update out very soon. The only way the end user can fix this is by manually editing the obj file in the objects folder. If you want, and depending on what is involved, I could type up a small paragraph on how to do this yourself. Many apologies for this!
Goran_M Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 Files have been updated and they have been sent to Cameron. There should be an email sent out and new installer available sometime very soon. Please note: This new update will ONLY work with the latest X-Plane update and NOT in 64 bit...yet.Thanks for your patience. 1
Cameron Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 Since these datarefs are only available in X-Plane 10.2 Beta 7, we will be waiting until X-Plane 10.2 reaches final to release this update. Rest assured we'll make this available promptly at that time. Unfortunately, this is a difficult situation where if were were to release this now it would break the product for all non-beta users of X-Plane. Given that is majority of our customers, this is the path we will be taking for this update. I understand this may come as bad news, and I apologize in advance for making you wait until then.
hiddenace Posted December 21, 2012 Author Report Posted December 21, 2012 Goran can you write up a small paragraph on how to fix these data refs?. I do 90% of my flying in the PNW with real weather and this time of year de-icing is critical a hot-fix would be helpful. It could take months before 10.2 becomes final!

We are not doing any form of support or mods for 10.2 until it goes final as stated in post #9.
Goran_M Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 Just to add to that, it's not as simple as I thought to edit a file. I had to duplicate a few meshes and make switches for the left and right wing and then change some datarefs on the actual model of the overhead as well as the manipulators..
realtch Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 Hello, I just tried the DC-3 1.2 64bit and it seems there is still just left-side deicing. Will this be fixed in an future update?
