sichars1968 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 What on earth have Laminar done with the clouds for betas 9 and 10?With the three rendering settings for the clouds I had got a really good looking cloud effect after much tweaking with the three settings. Now we can only set the first setting and the clouds look absolutely terrible, you try turning this setting up and performance is dreadful and they still look bad!I do hope this is just temporary because the sim is unusable like this. They are lauding the new clouds as one of the big improvements, which they were, and then they do this. I know we are in early beta/optimisation stage so hopefully they are just trying something and will revert to the original set-up as soon as possible. What do others think?Simon Quote
ksgy Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 I'm missing those sliders too. BTW now my FPS doesn't drop more than 5 FPS even if I max out the slider. Quote
Baber20 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 agreed. There is something wrong with the clouds. Quote
GrahamH Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 You are very right. As well as looking strange, my fps goes drastically down as well. I ope they fix this! Quote
larjeet Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) In thought I noticed a difference they look more like smears of mashed potatos Edited January 6, 2012 by larjeet Quote
woweezowee Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) the setting is also not consistent, like with +/- 1% you can get drastically different visuals results. In the extreme: coulds there -> +1% -> clouds gone. Edited January 7, 2012 by woweezowee Quote
inspired2 Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) Has anyone noticed the clouds in XP10 are static (not moving with the wind)? Does it bother you? I'm frustrated... Edited January 7, 2012 by inspired2 Quote
Simmo W Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Thanks for confirming my fears guys. I'm rivetted on b7 then, till you all confirm it's fixed! Quote
MaidenFan Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 I can't imagine why they would take away the cloud sliders and just leave one there. I'm getting these weird white streaks in the sky. I don't know if they are clouds without any detail or what. Very strange... Quote
zoltron_rulez Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Dido! Not only the clouds look bad and lower FPS, the sky background looks unrealistic. I set overcast, low altitude clouds and the result was although the clouds were at the right altitude the sky was blue, not dark gray. Looked really stupid to say the least. Quote
Cameron Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 They do look quite horrible...almost 16-bit like. Quote
mutestyles Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Man i wish i could go back to Beta 7 it looked so good and was fast. Just because so many are on older computers they are trying to please the masses and we are left to suffer with this crap. Ugh. Hopefully a fix is soon. beta 9 is crap :_ Quote
larjeet Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 more like Finger painting has anyone submited a bug report? Quote
mutestyles Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 i should start backing up my Betas on the external hard drive after this one. Quote
larjeet Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Mutestyles I just upgraded to run it But you have definatly got me beat do you actually run 3 HD6970s? Quote
inspired2 Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Guys, I'm really desperate; X-plane has always been a sim where I could "feel" atmosphere. But I don't feel it in XP10 (and all betas) because of static atmosphere (clouds are immovable, no matter what wind is). I wonder if developers are aware of that or maybe they think it's not a bug, but in that case they should fix it in XP9, because clouds in xp9 are moving with the wind. Quote
mutestyles Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Im sure the moving cloud issue will be dealt with in time. Just wish they didnt nerf the renderings so bad in beta 9. Taking away adjustments was not the way to go. Quote
dpny Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 The clouds have never moved in v10. Austin has said this will come later. Quote
mutestyles Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Ben said they are unlikely to bring back the 3 sliders for clouds cuz its better for the masses. So i guess were stuck with the mashed potatoes Quote
larjeet Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 maybe someone can find a hack to revert back to Xplane9 Clouds then we can run REX Quote
dpny Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Doubtful. v10s weather system is completely new, and that includes clouds. Quote
jadedguy Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Hmm interesting... I have noticed some 2D looking clouds in the distance, but in general I'm getting very realistic clouds (real weather). Just flew through an amazing mixture of cumulus and light stratus layers. The ground, lights and vehicles peeking through and dawn/dusk lighting...fantastic. But cranking the slider past 25 kills the frames. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 I have no issues with clouds and the new clouds slider. I went from 25% to 100% and lost about 5-8 fps when I was flying the Carenado Bonanza. I can live with that, though I prefer staying at around 50% Quote
Simmo W Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Cool. Canu post a pic or two so I can decide if it's ok to 'upgrade'? Tx Quote
