What on earth have Laminar done with the clouds for betas 9 and 10?

With the three rendering settings for the clouds I had got a really good looking cloud effect after much tweaking with the three settings. Now we can only set the first setting and the clouds look absolutely terrible, you try turning this setting up and performance is dreadful and they still look bad!

I do hope this is just temporary because the sim is unusable like this. They are lauding the new clouds as one of the big improvements, which they were, and then they do this. I know we are in early beta/optimisation stage so hopefully they are just trying something and will revert to the original set-up as soon as possible.

What do others think?

Simon

the setting is also not consistent, like with +/- 1% you can get drastically different visuals results. In the extreme: coulds there -> +1% -> clouds gone.

I can't imagine why they would take away the cloud sliders and just leave one there. I'm getting these weird white streaks in the sky. I don't know if they are clouds without any detail or what. Very strange...

Dido!

Not only the clouds look bad and lower FPS, the sky background looks unrealistic. I set overcast, low altitude clouds and the result was although the clouds were at the right altitude the sky was blue, not dark gray. Looked really stupid to say the least.

Man i wish i could go back to Beta 7 it looked so good and was fast. Just because so many are on older computers they are trying to please the masses and we are left to suffer with this crap. Ugh. Hopefully a fix is soon. beta 9 is crap :_

Guys, I'm really desperate; X-plane has always been a sim where I could "feel" atmosphere. But I don't feel it in XP10 (and all betas) because of static atmosphere (clouds are immovable, no matter what wind is). I wonder if developers are aware of that or maybe they think it's not a bug, but in that case they should fix it in XP9, because clouds in xp9 are moving with the wind.

Hmm interesting... I have noticed some 2D looking clouds in the distance, but in general I'm getting very realistic clouds (real weather). Just flew through an amazing mixture of cumulus and light stratus layers. The ground, lights and vehicles peeking through and dawn/dusk lighting...fantastic. But cranking the slider past 25 kills the frames.

I have no issues with clouds and the new clouds slider. I went from 25% to 100% and lost about 5-8 fps when I was flying the Carenado Bonanza. I can live with that, though I prefer staying at around 50%
