bruced39
I've been noticing when flying at night in total darkness clouds will all of a sudden turn white and within time fade to black. Has as anyone else experienced this? And is there a fix coming for it?
sundog
This should only happen if you change the time of day while flying and pan the camera around. Once you fly for a few seconds it should clear itself up. It's a side effect of an optimization to maintain fluid framerates when the lighting conditions suddenly change. However, there is a fix for this slated for our next release.
bruced39
Than you for your reply. I am not changing anything in the sim while flying. When flying at night every now and then a cloud brightens to white then fades after time. Hopefully the upcoming fix will solve my problem. Thank you. sundog
I think it should (fix it) but we'll be sure to give that extra attention in beta testing.
sizziano
I can confirm this still happens even with plenty of free VRAM.
Cameron
I can confirm this still happens even with plenty of free VRAM. That has nothing to do with what was explained above.
sizziano
That has nothing to do with what was explained above. Oh sorry posted in the wrong thread. Regardless it's a condition of which I was informed could cause this issue and I can confirm that at least for me it's not the case.
sundog
This particular thing has nothing to do with VRAM. But as mentioned above we have a fix that's going into testing soon.

Just going off what @JohnMAXX posted in another related thread: " If the are taking a long time to regenerate it's possible you're pushing your system and taxing VRAM.... JohnMAXX
Just a suggestion, as I mentioned before I only see this problem when I'm playing with the time slider while testing....
bruced39
Here is a video of it happening during a flight. Watch the full video and you will see it. It happens on most of my flights. Dave a320neo_1.avi

sundog
I think this was discussed in more detail in another thread, but to summarize - it's a known issue that can happen if you have a large cloud draw area setting in SMP and change the time of day during a flight. It should be fixed in SMP version 4. It will still take a few seconds for distant clouds to re-light in response to a time of day change, but they shouldn't get "stuck" like they can now. I should also point out that this can also happen without changing the time of day.
