Sure, no problem; x-plane demo will run OK. It's another thing if you purchase and then start adding scenery and payware aircraft, because you may run out of disk space. José

Thank you very much for your OpenGL tools; they are an enormous help and I've found that VRAM is really stressed. José

Hi, Have you noticed this? http://www.x-plane.com/?article=x-plane-crashes-osx-10-10-yosemite. We will have to wait for 10.35 to see those problems solved. José

Hi, It's been an honour to be part of the beta test team. José

Does there need to be one? OK, let me formulate a question: What is other people's experience about the subject? Best regards, Jose

Hi, I've often noticed that small airports are misplaced by x-plane default scenery and, in some cases, I have replaced them with the help of orthophotos. I would have expected that with the airport in it's correct location one could turn off runways follow terrain contours, since the mesh would reproduce the right terrain elevation; especially when using HD Mesh, with it's higher resolution compared to the default one, there should be no problems with runways following terrain. Helas, this does not happen in many cases, because x-plane artificially flattens the area where the default airport was located and that artificial flattening remains after airport relocation, even if we have HD Mesh. I could find several examples of this situation but there is one small airport in Portugal that I need to use frequently, which is badly misplaced by default and I relocated to the correct location; the ICAO code is LPCO. In this case the default airport sits on an artificial plateau that affects the apron of the relocated airport, hence I always turn off RFTC when I go there. Regards, José

X-plane 10 on a Mac trying to use Trackir5?
Jose Almeida replied to fulcanic's topic in I'm New To X-Plane!
Hi, You need to place the "xlinuxtrack" folder in "/.../X Plane 10/resources/plugins". José -
Hi, I would be interested too; I've been using X-FMC for quite a while but there are still things and concepts I don't fully understand. José

Hi Frank, I am ready to beta test; I own a licensed version of Skymaxx pro and I run x-plane 10.30 on a Macbook pro with osx Mavericks. My computer has NVIDIA GeForce GT 650 M with 1 GB vram. Best regards, José

Hi, I usually adjust the cloud draw distance according to the altitude I am flying because, obviously, I can see further when I am high up. Would it be possible to make SMP change that distance as a function of altitude, so that it would be automatically reduced when we fly low? Since the number of objects X-Plane needs to draw increases at low altitude, simultaneously reducing the cloud draw distance could help manage FPS. José

Swapping is the reason I am anxious to have the hard disk in my Mac Book Pro swapped with an SSD; I am hoping it will improve frame rate when swapping starts to occur.

Well, there is the NOAA plugin, which downloads weather from NOAA instead of Metar. Actually it can be configured to switch to Metar below a chosen altitude.

Thank you guys for this update; so far I have nothing negative to say about it.

Thank you very much for your splendid work!

FREE EFASS UltraWX Weather Engine RELEASED

Hi Jorge, What do you think has changed in Joan's NOAA plugin to solve the Mavericks problem? To me it seems that it still needs to be re-downloaded each time, after deleting all the files from the previous install. José -
I am also on MacBook Pro and with the default Mac definitions I needed to use Fn+F9 to hide X-FMC pannel but I altered the preferences (for the Mac, not for X-FMC) so that now I can hide it with F9. Jose

I will jump to beta test if I'm given the oportunity José

Hi, I am used to adjusting SMP settings to my needs/preferences and as a rule those settings are remembered after a normal shut down, when I restart x-plane. There is a problem, though, if x-plane creshes or if I need to perform a general plugin reload, because in those cases SMP resets all settings to default. Would it not be possible to customize the default settings, so to speak, so that SMP would return my preferred settings even after a crash or plugin reload? José

In my view there are two lines of approach to this problem: 1 - your log.txt file may have clues for what is causing the crash and you may send it to someone with experience and let him make suggestions, 2 - you can make a fresh installation of x-plane, keeping the old one in case you want to make use of the add-ons you have already downloaded. Be sure to edit scenerypacks.ini so that opensceneryx is below airport sceneries that may require it. José

Nano, The latest ZL17 from simheaven incorporate HD Mesh V2, so no I don't think that could be the cause. I use photosceneries for my country, Protugal, where I do a lot of VFR flying, and I have HD Mesh wherever it is available; for both Portugal and Spain I also have w2xpl enabled. My texture deffinition is extreme, such as yours, and most other settings are about half way; I use SkyMaxx Pro, also with settings about half way. Depending on the cloud cover I can get between 23 and 60 fps flying in my country and about the same in most of Spain but if I go to European countries with a lot of mountains my fps drops, due to HD Mesh, I believe; also, as I said before, If I enable w2xpl in central Europe I must be prepared for some loading delays, even if the fps drop is not severe. Flying VFR I can usually stand the loading delays because there aren't many scenery loads during one flight, but for IFR it's absolutely unbearable

gthomas, My computer has an i7 2.6 GHz processor, 16 GB ram and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650 video card with 1 MB video memory. My problems really arise only when I fly into an area covered by w2xpl of high osm density; flying over Germany, approaching Frankfurt, my sim stops for over 10 minutes while it loads the scenery. I have HD Mesh V2 but that does not cause noticeable delays. José

Hi, I run x-plane on a Mac Book Pro, mid 2012, with 16 GB of ram and I can tell you the current beta 0.4 of world2xplane sceneries can take more than 10 minutes to load in countries with dense osm data, see this thread: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=77085. I believe it would be completely impossible to keep these sceneries in an external drive and I am really considering upgrading to an internal SSD; it would have to be 750 GB or more and that costs money, though. José
