Beautiful Javier, and doesn't your scenery look so good in bad weather/night! A superb vid as usual. Thanks for the suggestion Zach, us iphone users always need that direct link.
-
thank you Goran, Theo and Max. Hand textured scenery + hand textured aircraft = heaven! hey max, I know u frequent the fsb forums, go for it! Plus Ill email my buddy Eric direct..... I'll try Avsim later, gotta get bak to sleep.

Rush, what scenery do you mean? If it's the one that I just posted Chips pic of, it's kmpi Mariposa in U.S. If you can't download it at .org I can email it to you for $15.95 with extra bloodstains and beer cans if u want! ;D

Duchess over KMPI, see below for link to all of Chips beautiful night shots http://xp10designgroup.wordpress.com/2010/09/14/beech-duchess-at-kmpi/

Thanks Andy! Best compliment that. I've only been trying scenery work for just over one month, learning so much every day. even today I've experimented more to perfect the night look, it should pay off I hope. I can't take all the credit, since Chip has contsructed the 3 larger buildings, even though I end up getting the hammer out to cull polys and do the texturing. yes, Chip also thinks I should go payware, but I have a long way to go. For now my payment is lovely thank you's like yours, knowing people are enjoying it. Our next project at KMMH is proving to be spectacular, tested 5 of the 10 buildings created by Chip with good fps performance. the massive hangar complex is impressive in sim, but will require much tweaking- the first incarnation had 100,000 polys!

that is funny. A bit like my signature. why not also put a warning like 'or faulty pc, requires constant power supply! be careful with the amazing WED beta,my first go i lost the changes and had to go to backup.
-
hehe, yes unfortunately I do have a day/night job! Interferes with the important stuff. I'm lucky to pack alot into one weekend sometimes.

Oh my dear God, now I walked back to the terminal and this is what I see! Oliver, you have some explaining to do! The Sundowner already had that 'lived in' look. Now I'm glad I can't open the doors, the smell coming from there is not Sunny at all Fun learning Photoshop and applying textures across cylinders in sketchup ;D
-
Just what did you guys get up to? I work hard, cleaning the clubhouse, and this is the thanks I get?
-
THANKS Cameron, what a fascinating explanation and 'challenge'. Tom has also pm'd me' so I'll check with chip before I add some of this background info to the blog, to illustrate what u go through when pushing the envelope. Ha, used WED1.1beta quite a bit for the first time yesterday. almost lost all my work, probs saving the package...

So Theo, do u know what AC3D is like compared to Blender? it appeals to me' as a next step, or do u reckon I'm better off learning the Beast?! I can only do it once a week, so am happy to trade off hyper accuracy/complexity for faster work. I've read Sergio uses AC3. Enjoy today!

Finally, we've gotten around to posting this review. Yeah, they're pretty good I s'pose. http://xplane10.wordpress.com/2010/09/12/leading-edge-simulations-reviewed-sundowner-and-duchess/ Actually, they're Bonza! Posted a scenery progress update as well today. A new scenery review coming tomorrow. Enjoy Chip N Simon

Looking wonderful as ever Goran (and Theo). Even little nicks from the screwdriver on the screw, yes insane (in a rooly good way).

OK, newest version of KMPI is here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11317 You've got a new clubhouse to have a few beers in, AFTER your sojourn. Thanks to Kiofka for giving me the tip re. Overlay Editor and adjusting fencelines. Learnt WED basics, so another Helipad on the other side of the strip, looks spectacular at night. I shudder to think what the combination of Norcal and the new lighting systems of XP10 will do for the sim! And Theo, if you fly there, be easy on me, my textures are nothing compared to yours! But Sketchup is a real pain to use for textures, agree? Link to the OTHER blog that Chip's established for our scenery work, with some very nice pics of the latest incarnation: http://xp10designgroup.wordpress.com/2010/09/12/latest-kmpi-images/

Yeah Andy, but it'll be good to see the screenies & vid. I'm only generally able to fly on Saturdays (US Friday arvos) from about 4.00pm SanFran time or about 2300 UTC. I finally had time to learn WED more today. Removed a few duplicate airport boundaries that were causing the weird night snow effect. Now it's lovely and dark everywhere, so the lights are looking even better. A new clubhouse built by chip 'only' took me 4 hrs to cull and then texture. Hehe, he loves intricate windows with 50 segments a piece, I got RSI deleting them all... Then got anal-retentive and used Kiofka's fantastic overlay hints to reposition the fenceline to remove hovering fences. So i'll be uploading the update to org in about 14 hrs. Last update will be after I texture a bushfire lookout tower, before I start the 'Mammoth' KMMH Mammoth. Just took off from there, incredible mountains nearby. Can't wait for Norcal to see that in action.

I cant help but be funny here, but i dont really want to wait till 2015 which happens to be the next time july 12th ends on a Sunday. can we make it a little sooner then that? Good one Jack! but isn't 2015 the release date for the CRJ? Plus it'll give me time to perfect the scenery, just enough time...

hehe, so now u know why I've had a video vacation- replaced with a sketchup model tweaking and Texturing workathon. Now I know how Theo feels, keeping up with the Chip Machine is hard work. so now I can formally put out the call- anyone with obscure, useful photos of KMMH, please contact me so we can get this as real as we can! anything, even little things like rubbish bin placement/ shape, i wanna get right. thanks simon

Cool Oliver! now I'm even more frustrated by our timezone difference, to fly n chat with the xpilot crew around my scenery would be wonderful, but Goran knows my curfew! 12am local time is divorce territory, and it's too cold in our garage right now. please take lots of screenshots, so I can at least imagine it! oh, and if u can get more than 10, I'll create an 'inaugural x-pilot fly in' honor board with all callsigns, so this historic moment in xplane history lives on ;D

thanks for sharing Warm! I have plenty of g2xpl files, can xgrinder let yo locate which files relate to a coordinate, to assist editing?
-
Warm, I ain't never gone near dsfs yet! over to others on that one! dsftools etc too in depth for me' right now

I've only done one for kmpi, but found it scarily easy. obtain and edit your image as required, save your png, create a .pol in text editor referring to your png (copy text from a known file), make the scale as needed (25 by 25 works ok). get into oe, bring the draped poly up and stretch carefully, using the runway as a guide. I placed 4 dummy objects on the corners of the runway as a guide, so I could detect dimensions of it. if there is an easier way, can't wait to find out! there is a more technical method in we'd. but this method seemed quicker to me
-
good to see more scenery chatter! All bow to the almighty Draped Polygon! A new scenery review just posted to our Blog, but I was embarrassed with Chip's review of my KMPI! Since I've now shown Chip how he can adjust the texture files, he's getting the scenery bug too - we'll announce our new collaborative project very soon. he's the ex-pilot/draughtsman so his renderings should be sweet.. http://xplane10.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/scenery-review-our-own-others/

yeah nice one PM, the passenger view gives a real feel to it. I've seen others even video the screen with a vid camera to add a further feel of being there, with the shaky effects. anyone had issues with xplanes video recording with the latest beta? it won't work for me', so may have to revert. video features seem to stuff up with new betas
