A350-900 XWB Maiden Flight livestream
scubajuan_new replied to Peter T.'s topic in General Discussion
Its five hours long . Perhaps we should post the time code of interesting highlights -
Does this mean it will be out the 4th of July?

Like with most MSFS sceneries a straight conversion always leaves a sour taste in the mouth. The lighting is usually awful based exclusively on LIT textures on the ground and objects to create the illusion of the missing lights. In most occasions the buildings and tarmac (to make them visible at night) seem to glow in the dark with a cartoonish appearance. And the ground textures either disappear from sight at at short distance or they simply look like sh@t. Other common problems I have found is that the specular characteristics of the objects are off, meaning reflexions and the way they cast (or not) shadows. Not to mention the difference in elevation used in the different sims when there is slope on the ground, this makes buildings sink on the ground or float in the air. Some if not most of this issues can be corrected but require a considerable amount of time and dedication. And If you are converting a copyrighted scenery all the work can not be shared. I am sure the more experienced X-Plane scenery gurus that frequent this forum can extend the list, but one thing is for sure: each case deserves its unique approach. It is not a matter if it is from the same vendor or not. The only way to find out is to give it a try.

I know about the beta release and I am sure Ben is working hard on it inspired with his baby, and that there will be a stable release when is ready and not a day before. But the crashing of the 32-bit application persists for me, so I am just patiently waiting for de updates to the products that I already have that use it or consider buying new ones. I have never tried Pilot's Edge mainly because I almost never fly in the Continental US and there is no coverage in the areas that I like to fly in. I have been for may years member of IVAO and use VATSIM occasionally, and in neither of them seems to be a X-Plane 10 64-bit friendly solution in sight. So the option of a simplified XP9 installation for this purpose is not such a bad idea after all, to me it sounds better that going Microsoft.

Except X-Plane it self. I am a OSX user and I believe the out of memory issue in 32bit affects Mac users the most. I can't run 32 bit XP, at least not without turning all the nice rendering settings down to a minimum. CRJ is starting to rust sitting on the ramp collecting dust, my online flying has been delayed indefinitely , perhaps I should keep an installation of XP9 just for flying online with decent rendering settings. I understand that the leap into 64 bits is not a simple one and I know from experience that trying to get some work when a new member of the family is on the way is difficult. But not as difficult as when the baby finally arrives, then forget about a good night sleep for a while. I kind of feel sorry for Ben, with the priority rearrangement and everybody bitching about their planes that don't work in 64 bits cuz they need Gizmo. I wish I could help but that is definitely out of my league.

The windows are just painted in, there are no actual windows in the model (just the in the cockpit). Perhaps what you noticed is a slight misalignment of the day/night textures with the Normal Map. There is a slight misalignment of the model's door with the NML (in the 767-300ER PW BWL for sure), but barely noticeable. Also there are different configurations on the doors/windows depending on the variant and switching them around does not work well. That's not the one in the picture . You mean this one? http://forums.x-pilot.com/files/file/217-boeing-767-300er-ge-cf6-80c-model-al/ That seems to come with two variants of Air Canada liveries. Perhaps you downloaded the wrong livery for your model or the wrong model for your livery .

It might be a little too heavy on the frames to have a bunch of these babies flying around at the same time though. Sure they would look fantastic as AI too but I don't think my system could handle more than one at the same time and not look like a slide show. For AI traffic there are really nice packages from the XPFW Project that are both great looking and frames friendly, and still keep normal flying characteristics and basic parts animations, like flaps and thrust reversers, lights and such. Googling XPFW AI I was able to find 737-Classic, 737-800, 747-400, 787-800 and A380. They come with several nicely done liveries and are free.

Can you post a pic of the particular livery you would like? or perhaps I can try to fix the window misplacement issue if I find my self with some time to spare.

In my opinion, the CRJ200 is the best out there still. As some have pointed out has excellent 3D model throughout, very accurate fly model as super detailed systems simulated, custom FMC and the a few super nice eye candy extras, like the working wipers, icing etc. A good second is the FlyJsim 727. It has and awesome 3D cockpit, not the whole plane( passenger/ cargo cabin) is modelled. It flies really nice and is a great plane to keep your radio navigation skills up to date. No FMC here although the CIVA is available but in my opinion having to program a route waypoint by waypoint sucks. It can use XFMC or UFMC if this is a most. The pricing is a bit annoying, having to pay extra for all the versions and liveries. You mention that you already have the ERJ which is a similar plane (to the CRJ, that is) yes it is but not the X-Plane versions. The CRJ is way superior in overall quality and systems implemented. If you have them both the ERJ will be benched for sure. The 777 is a nice plane, has its pros and cons, as far as the inaccuracies in the modelling, I didn't even notice them. The programming is outstanding, like you would come to expect from Phillip. Is the only FMC in the sim world that I've seen where you can program the alternate airport and also helps to navigate on the ground, specially in the large airports where I always get lost hehe. My problem with this plane is that I hardly ever make a flight more than 2 hours long, for me the preflight, departure, approach and landing is where all the fun is. The cruising portion of the flight is kind of boring, especially if the plane flies by it self. I would have to take a seat in the first class cabin and enjoy the inflight entertainment to enjoy a long flight. Peter's Aircraft Airbuses are really good in simulating procedures and systems but the modelling is not the best out there. Some don't even have 3D cockpit and they use the default FMC which is nothing like an airbus one at all. Maybe some day he would partner with a 3D artist and put all those nice systems in a beautiful plane, concentrate in programming what is missing and leave the visuals to a specialist (Japo for instance ) Oh yeah, turbo props, there are a few and more coming soon. There is the ATR (which i haven't seen yet) the Q400, the J32 and the Saab coming soon. I am waiting impatiently for the Saab release. the J32 is very nice, challenging to master and a superb modelling from the master him self. It has it's peculiarities setting it up, but once you understand the procedure is not a big deal. compared to the Q400 no doubts i keep the J32. I think the Saab is going to kick a@@ when it comes out. In the general aviation department there's a bunch to chose from. I don't have many of these, but the ones I have are a joy to fly. The Corvalis TT has a functional G1000 with map and terrain, pretty sweet. The C152 is an excellent choice for VFR flights to enjoy the scenery. The MU-2 looks fantastic and I have only hear good things about it. I don't have any of the Carenado planes, but they all seem very nice. I just don't need another GA plane right now, whith what I have and the default ones is enough for me for the time being. Ah! I almost forget the Mentor, how could I. It is absolutely beautiful and is a joy to fly. I take it out of the hangar when I am in the mood for some aerobatics, race down a canyon or chase a GA AI traffic to attempt formation flying. Is just a lot of fun and another master piece from The Master Javier Rollon. Business jets... LES just anounced the Citation II but it might be a while until it comes out. The Challenger 300 is ok but not all systems are modelled and if you come from the CRJ200 it feels like a toy. But if you could delay your birthday present... wait for the IXEG 737 Classic to be released. I can assure you there will be no disappointment there. Not only it is being made by the X-Plane's demigods, it will have all the bells and whistles and will handle almost like the real thing. Following the development in this forum and seeing what the developers have shown us, no doubts it will be the best thing that happened to X-Plane since X-Plane 10 it self. I hope this helps and happy birthday

CRJ 200 - XP 10 crash after 10 minutes of flight
scubajuan_new replied to mverhaegen's topic in Canadair CRJ-200
is the 1.4.5 version 64 bits compatible? is it possible to get this by request? Thanks -
If you have a bit of patience you will have a nice surprise, there's an amazing freeware version of that airport in the oven. in the mean time you can download the toronto island : http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php/files/file/301-cytz-toronto-island-airport-and-downtown-toronto-xp10/ and here is the thread for the CYYZ : http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php/topic/4143-misc-wip-shots/

I didn't made this video but it features the magnificent work of the demigods and wanted to share it here.

I read somewhere, perhaps in this forum that there are two or maybe more ways to represent water bodies in OSM and that X-Planes global scenery designers only used one of them. That might be the cause of so many lakes, rivers and ponds are missing. I am currently working on an scenery of Acapulco Mexico, and planning to extend the scenery north to place some of the hotels, marinas and harbour in the bay, and also the small military airfield north of the Acapulco Bay. This airfield is also next to a lagoon. The main international airport sits next to a big lake and is pretty significant for visual approaches, specially to the rwy 24 which the final approach is all over the water until almost the threshold. It is too bad that the beech is not represented either and the terrain cuts to water (the ocean) with no transition. I am planning on using orthophotos which in the ocean side can be faded to blend with the water, but in the case of the lagoon it wont have the nice water effects that X-Plane has.

Chris, looking at this and since I believe you keep both installations of X-Plane (mac and win) would you recommend to use the win version on a booth camp partition? I have a MBP15"with 500gb SSD, so when i was running out of disk space the first thing that went was the partition I had. If the performance of X-Plane is so significantly superior under windows I can reconsider and keep a win 7 64 installation and move my X-Plane over to windows. In your test results it seems to be almost twice as fast. I just can't afford to keep both installed at the same time. Thanks

Hello Tom and everyone else. I was looking around the autogen scenery and noticed that X-plane draws sidewalks on the city streets. I would like to know the process XP uses to draw streets so I can replicate for the areas near the airport where streets are missing, parking lots, etc., so it blends in seamlessly with the rest of the scenery. I am aware of the decals used over textures for the gritty effect but that's about all I know about it. I would like to use the default assets so I'd appreciate if someone can tell me which assets are being used for drawing streets the way X-Plane does. Thanks and good day to all. Juan

You should use "LIGHT_PARAM full_custom_halo_night" instead. You can customise the colour, shape and direction of the light beam exactly like with LIGHT_SPILL_CUSTOM. Use LIGHT_PARAM full_custom_halo for lights that are on all the time. It does not check for a dataref so it will also be a bit faster. LIGHT_PARAM full_custom_halo X Y Z A S Dx Dy Dz W X,Y, Z Position relative to the center of the object A Master dimer or brightness S Size Dx, Dy, Dz Direction in which the light shines W Width (Cos(angle), I am not sure if you can use 1 for omnidirectional lights)

Hello everyone. Reading the Q&A thread I found really useful information about LIGHT_PARAM sodium_flood_XYZBTSS and LIGHT_PARAM full_custom_halo and finally undertood all the parameters except for the B parameter in the first one, but the RGB part is still kind of a mystery for me I can only guess that this values are in percentage and don't know how to convert the values on the table in the article below to use them with LIGHT_PARAM full_custom_halo. I was reading this article: Reproducing the color of real world light but when trying some of those values in the RGG parameters I got extremely odd results that resemble a blinding nuclear blast and is not what I was looking for. Ok, so we've got LIGHT_PARAM sodium_flood_XYZBTSS and it's billboard only counterpart LIGHT_PARAM sodium_flood_BB. The parameters on the first one have been explained in detail in another thread (except for the B) and on the other hand we have LIGHT_PARAM full_custom_halo and all its prameters have been explained in full. What i don't understand is the RGB values of the last one. What would be very useful for me is to know the RGB values used in the named lights, since I am using a combination of lamps and would like to keep an even appearance of the custom lights that blend with the default ones. Does any body know what the RGB values of the common lights used by the default lights are. EG. Mercury Vapour, Sodium Vapour, Metal Halide, High Pressure Sodium, Halogen, Fluorescent and Tungsten. I don't want to mess with flashing neon sighs just yet. Also is there a place where I can find all the billboard only lights to be used instead of custom billboards? I would like to keep a consistent appearance, and if this billboards are modified using something like Chris K's Replacement Day and Night Lighting, I would like my lights to be affected by such modifications. Thanks Juan EDIT> I found the answer to the first question in the lights.txt file, thanks anyway.

To dradecki, You can move, make transparent or even delete the default taxiways with WED, this is not possible with Overlay Editor. I like the images, looking forward for this to be released. One comment on the general tone of the orthos: Why do they look a bit like a vintage sepia photos? Hawaii is pretty humid and the lush green is abundant in the whole archipelago.
