  1. Thanks for the reply Litjan. Sounds ligit. However I will say there are real FMS's that do load the global database. The Honeywell FMZ 2000 found on the Global Express and Falcon 900EX for example.
  2. My install of the 737 seems to be working just fine. Awesome add-on. I am currently having an issue with the FMS data which I get through Navigraph via the download manager. Just flew a flight from KNEW to KBOS and everything worked at expected. STAR to an ILS final. Then I attempted to plan a flight from KBOS to EIDW and the FMC says EIDW is "Not In Database". The same for any waypoint in and around Ireland. The last waypoint it recognized was BEXET coming off the NATS tracks. I currently have AIRAC 1613 loaded with the proper identification on the IDENT page of the FMC. I know it's a little out of date, but I'm pretty sure EIDW was there before this cycle..:) I checked the aircraft folder and it appears the Navdata is correctly installed and I did open the wpNavFIX file and noticed that the Ireland fixes were in there. But still reported as "Not in Database". Any clues? TIA
  3. It's a small Ram Air Turbine (known as a RAT) used in the event of a dual engine failure. It provides electricity to the emergency bus and has a small hydraulic pump for gear and flight controls. Usually deploys automatically given certain criteria, but can be deployed manually for ops checks. I have deployed one in real life for an ops check and it makes a heck of a loud racket. Can't be stowed in flight once deployed.
  4. Thanks Cameron and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Appreciate all the effort you put in to make our XP experience better and better. Nano
  5. No John, no other weather-related plugins. I just tried this in XP10 and could not duplicate under exact same scenario, so it may be just related to XP11. FYI, duplicated behavior on a flight from KSFO-KSMF. Just went to chase mode and zoomed out in the vertical and the altimeter changed from 30.06 to 29.92 and weather went from Match real world to CAVOK with 25 sm vis
  6. I just did my upgrade from Ver 3.2.2 and think it is $$$ well spent. However, I have found a strange behavior in XP11. I know it's beta and I'll check for the same behavior in XP10.5x. I'm on rwy 28L at KSFO in the Carenado BE58 and tell the sim to match real world weather. The sim loads the weather which is currently Scattered Cumulus at 20000-22000 ft. Pretty clear day with visibility set to 10 sm. I know this is a current limitation in XP11. Now if I take an external view and zoom out above FL200, I see the clouds start to really fill in to basically a cumulus overcast. Then when I zoom back in to the aircraft on the ground, the weather is completely changed to cumulus overcast and when I go to the weather settings page, "Match real world conditions" is no longer checked. It unchecked it without me telling it to do that and kept the overcast condition. Can someone try to replicate this behavior. Nano
  7. Thanks Cameron. Looking forward to it. The CRJ is still one of the best add-ons in XP.
  8. I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised. Keep us posted on the result if you will.
  9. Not a bad rig, but I believe you can do better by buying parts and building it yourself. I just built an XP only PC with an i7-4790k coupled to the MSI GTX 980 graphics card. The 4790k is not as new as the Skylake CPUs, but for XP the faster clock speed and lower cost made it the best option. I used the Fractal Design Define S case and think it's awesome. Also, do not go lower than an 80+ Gold rating on your power supply if you could potentially be over clocking your CPU or GPU. Which, BTW you definitely should. It's so easy and you can get 15-25% performance boost for free, but you need stable power to do it.
  10. Quite impressive indeed. The DDenn G6000 was at the top of my purchase list, but I believe it just got bumped to 2nd place.
  11. Stay safe guys. Looks like you'll be hunkered down for a while. As long at the power stays on, it's a great time to log some XP hours.
  12. Nice post Veace. I too just built a new rig with a 4790k and GTX 980. A vast improvement in my XPlane experience over my 09' iMac. I'm very happy with my fps as I'm able to run everything maxed out with 40-60 fps in 99% of the airspace. It will slow to 18-25 in places like London/NYC, but all I have to do is lower the screen resolution a notch and all is good even in those areas. Unfortunately, I'm all about eye candy, so I like to have everything on max; and that, at times, presents an fps problem. Congrats on your new rig and hopefully the 737 will be here soon.
  13. You are in luck. The Define S case comes in a non-window version for $10 less. And correct, I didn't purchase an optical drive for this computer. I created and .iso and load that to play xplane without having the disk in the an optical drive. There are lots of videos on the internet on how to do that. For the most part if I'm under 30 fps, it's CPU limited. However, the 4790k at 4.4 GHz is that best you can do for XP. I've overclocked mine to 4.8 and have had no issues at all. Temps top out at 60 and are mostly in the 30s even when flying the sim. In the two days of flying I've done so far, I can say that 90% of the time I'm at 35+ fps. Only around object intensive scenery; i.e. London, Birmingham does it slow to the low 20s. I have GB Pro so there are lots of objects as I fly around the UK and at "extreme" objects they are all there. Even in the low 20s the sim seems very smooth and if I didn't have the fps data posted, I wouldn't really notice it. The pics below are the DDenn Challenger 300 at Aerosoft's Dublin scenery with real-time weather.
  14. I just finished my RedBeast two days ago. I too just switched over from Mac to a PC exclusively for XP. The iMac will still be my main computing rig but XP will now be played on the PC. Here's a parts list to the computer I built. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/nanosour/saved/#view=N32dnQ I got all the parts from new egg and am extremely happy with their service. Joined the Premier for 90 days to get the 3 day shipping. A good deal for $20. Some lessons learned: 1) Although the GTX 980 is great, I would have gone with the 980 Ti if I could have a do over. I'm running pretty much maxed out with the exception of Water reflections and Shadows and get no less than 25 fps. Usually 50-60 in the vast majority of area. Using GPU-Z I notice that I'm routinely at or over 3500 MB of VRAM used. The 6GB 980 Ti would be useful. 2) The Fractal Design Define S is a phenomenal case. Check out you tube for reviews. I love not having a rack taking up all that room in the front. Here a pic of pretty much what I built. http://imgur.com/gallery/hizeQ Youtube video review of Define S 3) If you are gonna go with a water cooler with different fans, make sure the fans are 4-pin PWM fans so they can be controlled by the CPU Fan header on the motherboard. I made this mistake on my original purchase of Corsair SP120 fans for the H105 cooler. Had to return them and get the SP120 PWM fans. Also, the water pump should be plugged into a system fan header for constant pump rpm. 4) No need to pay full price for Windows. Got a genuine product key for Windows 7 Professional for $35 here: http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Microsoft-Window-7-Professional-32-64-Bits-Oem-Product-Key-Code/270948159?gpid=76983190261&gpkwd=&goog_pla=1&gclid=CLem_ZuNrMoCFcKGaQodLp0CCg You can make your own free Win 7 Pro bootable USB from the microsoft website to install Windows. I believe the free upgrade to Windows 10 is good thru July if you should eventually want Windows 10. Also, make sure you get at least the Professional level of windows or you will be limited to 16 GB of RAM support. That's about it. It was fun building it. If it's your first time, check out the tons of youtube vids on PC builds. Good Luck with it.
  15. 550 GB on my D: drive. Entire Global scenery and lots of European photo scenery.

    HDR

I don't find HDR to be that big a deal and do 100% of my simming with it off. You can keep the map light, I'll take the fps. Also, I can't stand the simulated engine exhaust. It looks so fake.
  17. That's awesome…thanks for sharing.
  18. I just took a look at your log.txt file and you seem to have quite a bit of rending options turned on. I can see this from the I/REN settings in the txt file. Also, you have HDR turned on. That's a big time fps killer. From your cockpit photo, you can tell that you are CPU limited and not GPU. Notice CPU at .024 and GPU at .011. In this case your CPU is guiding you fps of 34.77 fps with is a very good fps IMHO. Here are my suggestions: 1) Turn off HDR 2) Set Trees, Road, and Cars to "None" 3) Set Objects to "Default" this will ensure you have airport sceneries show up 4) Turn Clouds all the way down to 10%. 5) In SMP turn off cloud shadows to begin with and make sure clouds are not turned up too high. Now see what you are getting as you fly around. You should be able to run with Screen Resolution set to "High" on 1080 with no problems and pretty high fps. Be advised that weather changes will always have an impact on fps. Many times a sever impact. Finally, know that, unlike PC games, XP is very CPU intensive at times during any given flight. Your CPU is relatively slow for XP. 2.4Gz with 3.4Gz max is quite a ways behind something like the 4790K with stock speed of 4.0Gz and boost to 4.4Gz.
  19. Fortunately I had a back up copy on an external drive.
  20. I've seen the same random freeze issue with 10.41. Have reverted back to 10.36 and SMP2 with no more freeze/lag issues. It's the 98% solution and works for me.
  21. I have to agree. My system is down to a crawl even on "normal" resolution. I'm seeing f-act below 1 and have to force quit the XP to get my system back. Might have to do with 10.41. I'm stepping back the 10.36 to see if that makes a difference.
  22. Kieran, Try also setting you Shadows to "On Aircraft". This too is a big draw on CPU power and I think you'll be happy seeing shadow moving around the aircraft. The other settings give you very little bang for the buck so to speak. Then you might consider bumping the objects/trees up to second from the highest setting (I think it's mega-tons) or even the highest setting as you should have spare capacity for added eye candy. I also find that cars hardly tax the CPU and take effect immediately when you pick a car setting. Which is nice as you can quickly change the amount of cars based on the size of the city/town you are flying over. I find it really bumps up the realism when flying low and slow. Finally, last night I installed a GTX 750 Ti on my sons AMD 6800K computer. Did some testing and was amazed at how much better it ran XP than my 2009 i7 iMac with 512 MB VRAM. The 6800K is considerably lower than my i7 860 in performance, but his machine ran at 30 FPS over KSEA with the settings I mentioned about. I'm looking to build the same rig as you, but with the 4790K as a CPU.
  23. Hi Keiran, From my experience "extreme" objects is what puts the most pressure on my CPU. It doesn't seem to matter whether flying low in a helo, or high in a tube of pain. I can easily see 60+ FPS if there are not many buildings in the current visual. Throw in an 'extreme' number of objects such as Munich using OSM data, and it drops down to 20-22. It would be nice if XP could adjust this setting on the fly to maintain a minimum FPS, but that's just wishful thinking at this time. As for you CPU. It doesn't appear to be the top single-core performer based on a comparison with the 4790K. Certainly not a slacker though.
  24. Hello Skyhawk and welcome to the forum. I too am in the market for an XPlane only PC. I'm coming from a late 2009 iMac i7 with a 512 MB Graphics card and have extensive XP experience back to V8. XPlane performance is primarily limited by the CPU single core performance. In other words, it doesn't make much use of multiple core CPUs. That's not saying it doesn't use the additional cores, but the flight modeling is single core and is by far the most taxing of all XP functions. Given this fact, the Intel 4790K is the best choice on the market today. Check these links for comparisons of 4790k vs FX8320 and 5820K http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-5820K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4790K http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4770K-vs-AMD-FX-8320 Pay particular attention to single-core performance scores. Now onto the graphics card part of the equation. If you want high resolution textures, you'll need to go with a higher performing card with at least 4GB of memory. Be careful to not get lured into just looking at the amount of VRAM. The card also need processing power to go along with the memory or you're just wasting your money. Look at the GPU benchmark rankings found here http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.htmlto see where you want to put your money. I'm gonna throw down on a GTX 980 Ti and call it a day for the next 3-5 years…hopefully. My reasoning is that it's pretty easy to exceed 2GB of VRAM requirement in XPlane and that means you need a card that can handle twice that amount. 4GB VRAM is right on the edge for me so I'm jumping up to the 6GB VRAM 980 Ti. I'm sure this gives you some food for thought. Personally, I'm gonna build my own system with parts ordered off www.newegg.com Good luck with your decision.
