  1. Ah, I was just saying links to screenies would be nice - don't do written reviews, because it eats too much time. Your judgement would do for freeware airports. For payware sceneries I would read flighttime56s reviews, anyways. Links to buildings and ortho-/osm-stuff are high on my list, too. Thanks!
  2. Woah, thanks Mario. An up-to-date map would be very helpful in the future! A suggestion for improvement: If you run across a good review with screenshots, can you please add the link? Ehem, I could have said that if you spot good xsimreviews.com review... I have not checked, but you did already exclude the logo-brick airports? Looks like it. Splendid!
  3. Yes, interesting question. Nothing to see on the named devolopers blog since December. So he might be busy. I remember reading that they would do something different than their current line of aircraft. In any case, with the 738, J41 and the T7 they would have fierce competition in the XP market. So I hope they tackle their flagship, the 744. Or the might go for the easiest one, the B1900D/C - which would be the worst approach in my opinion. The MD11 or the 748 might be the better guesses. I would say that the 748 would be the commercially soundest decision. Anyways, with a "developer on board for a few months" they would be quite far from communicating a release date. Very interesting question, tho.
  4. Still in enjoying Toronto CYTZ and Chris's lights magic. Stunning.
  5. I would say, join a VA you like and if you feel the need, try join the team that runs it. Much more fun that way. Building and running a VA (on your own) sucks up too much time you could be flying or do other nice things
  6. Ah, come on, just a bump in the road. Had the same problem checking liveries in XP10 lately. Began swearing, switched on HDR for a quick flight - and the the livery lost its edges. Huh, it was a beta... Isnt XP a constant beta? I never tried to convert the .png files to .dds to check the pre-compressed stuff. Could be that your 256MB VRAM is on overload and detail gets lost a the livery. Please have anyone with a VRAM monster check the livery to backup your new title being ex-whatever. Seems to be a new trend around here lately... Cheers, Mike PS: I run a 256MB VRAM Mac at home. And yes, it sucks. Feel better
  7. Oh, bad. It all depends on the method of formatting. What did "the computer" do? Initialize? Easiest recovery. Formatting overwriting the existing data makes it harder. One run might be OK, industrial spy-safe would be running it 3 to 5 times plus. So chances are good if you fall into the easier categories. But dont write any data to that drive. Make sure you know what happened and ask a couple of recovery services for advise before you try stupid things yourself. And, well, for recovery you need another TB drive... Good luck!
  8. Scary real at ground level...
  9. Buildings are mostly auto generated, just the Toronto specific buildings have been modeled. Chris usually changes the standard ground texture with high resolution tiles - for airports. Dont know if he edited the city centre, too. The boats were generated by a plug-in, the ferry lines could be edited, too. In all it is a really nice and well done scenery!
  10. I was so into it, that I did not bother. From the cockpit all felt 20fps plus, outside views at 400 / 1,000 ft stopped occasionally for one to four seconds for scenery creation. I had to dial the world distance to low, because loading times were next to unbearable, HDR is set to 2x. Passed very low over NYC... For the same flight southward over Manhattan - with a few building enhancements from the .org I rescaled to 1000px / 220kB - those screen shots are 4.5MB in size and very detailed. Yes, I could have made shots in broad day light with clouds - but this is sooo much nicer.
  11. Hi all, I usually fly the CRJ in XP9.7 on a nearly 5yo MacBook. And I love it. Since we got the Airbus A330-200 from XPP painted for my virtual airline and I had a graphic monster computer temporarily around, I gave this plug-less aircraft and XP10.20b9 a chance. I was blown away. Nope, never thought it would happen with XP10. XP10.20b9 68bit to be precise. OK, starting up took ages (six minutes overall to be 3nm out of KJFK). I decided to have a look at Fredes updated KJFK. On final I saw all those houses. Hi KJFK, you look nice, lets go to KLGA... No extra scenery installed - other than KJFK. Could not believe what I was seeing. 125 screen shots later I post a few. What more
  12. Ah, you caught me. I am a simpleton... No logins, no Java stuff, search-able. Thats what I would call organized. E. g., the UK nats site http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=6&Itemid=13.html
  13. Nope, obtaining charts can be a real hassle - the Eurocontrol web site is a nightmare. Better go search for "enroute charts" or "airport chart STAR" before consulting Eurocontrol. http://www.vatita.net/?dir=ajaxcharts&pagina=charts The LIPZ STAR chart is 18 months old, but better than nothing. The UK, Germany and Sweden are way better organized. The US is a dream in that respect.
  14. Hi, just a few quick answers: > STARs, e. g. airportnavfinderdotcom It always depends on the AIRAC that they are running. Maybe those sites work with old data. > map scrolling Have a look at page 17 of CRJ200_Tutorial_1.1.0.pdf > choosing the right STAR Find the transition which is right for you, look at those available STARs for the runway in use, pick the according STAR. Distance can go up considerably when winds are not favorable for you. Thats life... But with the "virtual" CRJ2 (slow and light) you might be able to land with tailwinds on longer runways if time is the matter. > FMS to NAV capturing the ILS Go to heading mode prior to switching or fly by hand > G/S capture Capturing the glide slope being lower is the easiest and automated way, otherwise you have to chase it by hand or further manual input. Again, a few short answers - there is more to tell about each question/answer... Cheers, Mike
  15. Yes, had the same problem a couple of days before with 1.4.5./1.5.2 in XP9.7. Just dial back settings - I still have textures set to extrems, AA to 4x, airport details insane. Objects and distance are down one/two notches. Works now. Oh, I fly the 1.4.5 at the moment. PS: Thanks for the helping message, Philipp!
  16. As real as it gets. Woah - trying the XP10b9 paid off. Borrowing a decent Mac over the holidays, too.
  17. Hm, I am waiting for a thread like "It is time to sell XP9 the the neighbors kid". Then I know XP10 is ready.
  18. CSLs? Hundreds? I have fond memories my newbie night on IVAO: about ten Sea King helis were floating in mid air around me. The next time I connected with better setting and software. Now the other aircraft were sliding by on their bellies... You definitely know that X-Plane 10 got critical mass, when IVAO software actually works and you see other rides then your pre-set Sea Kings. About a year ago I bought XP10 and did not dare to make a flight on IVAO, because XP10 always crashed on me or made other thing impossible. XP 9 still works like a charm. Why change until XP10 actually get 64bit golden? Until then, have a look at this or that I know, eye-candy. Kai Tak with loads of buildings. Do we really want that in XP, too?
  19. Dear Santa, I am beginning to get angry. Being confined to my XP9 environ, I really long for an upgrade. Please, Santa, go argue with my SO and the kids and the mechanic and the bank etc. I really deserve the upgrade. Cheers, Mike PS: Dear Chris, just give me a shout when your employer dumps a new MP on you, so I can recycle your old box. Maybe an 8-core for you? PPS: Luvley work. When you get bored with Australia, NZ is quite close...
  20. Ooops, I deeply regret teasing you (no - no criticism or sarcasm intended) to have you tell me do go elsewhere. You do nice work, I said that before. You may choose your way anytime. Since I run a VA I am looking for good aircraft to paint and fly. If I have the choice - heck, I have it - I always choose the nices aircraft for my VA. I would love to have your 788 in our fleet. Just give me a shout when you think it is ready. And do take your time to make it what you want it to be. For now I go look elsewhere and wont bother you again. Cheers, Mike
  21. Michael, I am sort of glad that it will be delayed. Cant stand looking at fugly walls during those long-hauls when being confined to the cattle compartment... Um, seriously, do we sim flying biggies or are we running an interior designers competition here?
  22. Regarding XP10 performance I read something like the more cores, the better - and 2GBs are plenty for the moment being. I guess that RAM would not hurt when XP10 gets to be a 64bit app.
  23. Double wow! Love it!
  24. Hey Andras, what a big difference it makes! Amazing! Cheers, Mike
