Probably not. The screenshots show that it is integral part of the Saab's menu system. The FlyJSim 727, by the way, has the option show the X-Plane default FMS in 2D cockpit mode.

I guess for serious flight simulation (i.e. NOT the XP android apps), only the number of Linux gamers on the desktop is important.

If I understand your post correctly, I take it that you are a real-world Airbus pilot, so I guess I'll simply believe you. It's not a law then, but a planned regulation one should prepare for. My main focus is on the "primary" state that satellite (GNSS) based navigation "will" have soon, according to DFS, and the thinning of VOR/DME/NDBs, which has already begun years ago. During the "Saab Release Week" I had several discussions in several forums with flight simulation users (both XP and MSFS) complaining that online flying without GNSS RNAV equipment is nearly impossible in Germany, so they said the Saab would be nearly useless for them. These documents seem to confirm this problem. If it's not yet a big problem in reality (in contrast to desktop flight simulation), well, that's good

Horani already gave some more details, but here are the sources I have my information from: 1. A DFS presention held 2009 at an ICAO conference in Paris: http://www.paris.icao.int/documents_open_meetings/download.php?maincategory=76&subcategory=96&file=PBN_TF3IP04Germany.pdf On page 2 it says "B-RNAV is mandatory for flights in airspace above FL095 within Germany" On page 6 it gets clear that VOR/DME and NDB are only meant as backups (used on just 1 RWY per airport), but GNSS is the primary, and used on ATS controlled routes. On page 7 you can see the schedule for this "further thinning of conventional navigation systems" (p. 8), i.e. the dates when which VOR/DME/NBDs were or are planned to be removed. 2. I guess it started in 1998 with the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt's ("Federal Aviation Office") "Bekanntmachung über die Einrichtung von Lufträumen mit vorgeschriebener Flächennavigationsausrüstung" which is apparently not available freely anymore. Can be purchased here: http://www.luftverkehr.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=192:c1998-1-073-c085a&catid=63:brd-bekanntmachungen-nfl-1&Itemid=182)

For me, the current solution is sufficient. But I have a technical question: If the default GPS was in fact easier to implement than your own solution, but you decided against it due to its graphics and its poor functionality ... -- and I really agree with that! The default GPS/FMC spoils every high quality 3D cockpit. The default GNS430 is the only thing that does look totally out of place in graphically superb planes like the Jetstream or some Carenado products -- ... doesn't this mean that the "internal" side of X-Plane's navigation tools (the stuff that is behind both the default GPS and the default FMC) can interact with the Saab, i.e. get its current position, speed and height? I'm asking because I'm still thinking of trying external tools, esp. the free, excellent and nearly feature-complete KLN90B. This old-style GPS would be a realistic choice for real 340As. It has a popup window which is resizable and readable very good. And it runs in 64-bit mode, unlike the apparently dead RealityXP tools. Even if it can't control the autopilot of the simulated Saab, it could be useful for storing a flight plan and showing the headings. One would then simply use the HDG mode of the Saab's autopilot to follow that GPS. For this, it just needs to get the current position, height and speed of the airplane, and be able to run in parallel to the Saab's plugins and/or Gizmo without disturbing the Saab. I guess such undesired interferences could be the biggest problem here. However, all that stuff is really not so important, because RNAV flying is now possible. This is an oldschool plane, and it was never meant to fly in today's computerized digital airspace, and that it is now able to do so, is more than we could expect from an A model. So I'm totally happy about the solution with the dialog box, and looking forward to fly this beautiful bird hopefully soon.

You can export flight plans for the X-Plane FMS, but coupling it via XPUIPC (instead of FSUIPC) seems not to work.

Mystery Evening Which nice little airport is this?

Switzerland is my favorite flying area in Europe

Much better, yes!

Don't forget that the Saab 340A was built from 1984 to 1989, and it did not have a GPS or a FMS. It did not need one back then. So if we want to fly the 340A according to today's rules and with today's navigational data, we need some kind of solution, and that's why I am very thankful for LES that they provide one, esp. one which is so unobstrusive.

Hmmm... I'm not sure if I like this particular screenshot. It is very colorful and with lots of contrasts ... It somehow reminds me of FSX clouds and of video games. (Sorry to say that, but that's my honest opinion. You've shown more realistic shots earlier, though.)

I don't know about France, but at least in Germany it is a big problem. Many many VORs have been removed in the last decade. We still have VORs at the airports as approach guides, but the routes you get from ATC usually rely on "virtual" waypoints which are just GPS positions and not related to an actual physical VOR or NDB anymore. So without GPS, you can't fly according official rules. Furthermore, I've read about a law that in Germany you are not allowed to fly over 10.000 ft with aircraft that has no GPS equipment.

Yes! Thank you!

New CRJ 200 *.acf file doesn't work with Gizmo
Mario Donick replied to paulferg's topic in Canadair CRJ-200
If you purchased the CRJ here and that modified .acf is for a CRJ bought from another vendor, I suspect that it will not work. However, I don't really know, just a guess. -
If you equal "high quality" with what the A2A C172 was supposed to be (and surely will be soon after some patching), than you're right. Otherwise, there is the extremly well done freeware C172 by Alan Fletcher (also known as Wide Screen Panel Project), which has by far the most features a C172 currently has in X-Plane. And of course there is Carenado's C172, which mainly shines through her good 3D model.

Thanks for the status update. What are those popular flight situations you are referring to?

<reason> Better wait some hours or a day more than having an unfinished product because they needed to rush. </reason> <emotion> Now give me that plane! </emotion> <reason> ..... ad infinitum.

I'm somewhat angry about myself that I am victim to the marketing efforts of the guys at X-Aviation. On the other hand -- feels like the time when I was a teenager (Well. It's not THAT long ago.) and I had no real important responsibilities. The Saab makes me young again *lol*
-
I think I will only be able to focus on important things again once I have that plane in my hands. Funny -- never been hyped by a commercial product that much before.
-
The Saab 340A has no FMS. The 340A is either flown with classic navigation, or pilots use an external GPS. The Saab 340B has a FMS, though, but I imagine it was a deliberate decision to first do the version without FMS. It took long enough -- a FMS version would probably have taken 1 year longer

Great part about the manual, made me laugh! Price: Nothing known yet, beside that Cameron called it "fair for what you get".
-
If you read again, you might notice that it is the manual that currently takes the most amount of time, so I doubt it will be ready before the actual product.
-
Good luck!

It is compatible. It comes with 3 folders (NT_Societe_1, NT_Societe_2 and NT_Societe_3). In X-Plane 10, only install NT_Societe_1, and you'll have one of the finest flying areas available. I also made a travel guide for this and some nearby islands: http://forums.x-pilot.com/files/file/526-4821-nm-across-the-sea-xp-10-travel-guide-1/ Which reminds me of the 2nd issue that is overdue since 2 weeks ...
