Interest Check: Duchess & C23 Sundowner Update?
Goran_M replied to Scubby1359's topic in General Discussion
Really? FS4? I shall equally reciprocate your comments by saying you just invested in a lesson that teaches you that as we progress, so does the quality. This lesson cost you $14.95. A bargain if you ask me! The bright side? You could always load the C-23 up in X-Plane 9.22 (which is when I made it) and you'll see what X-Plane USED to look like before X-Plane 10 came along. Here endeth the lesson. Have a nice day. -
Now that's the classic "old school" response. Brilliant.

Interest Check: Duchess & C23 Sundowner Update?
Goran_M replied to Scubby1359's topic in General Discussion
Ok, I'll weigh in on this one. This has been on my mind for quite some time, and I have wanted to redo both the Duchess and Sundowner for quite a while. The problem is the return on time invested. When I made the Sundowner, it was made with the sole purpose of getting something done that wasn't too complex and was just a fun one to fly. I've looked at both the Sundowner and Duchess and would actually enjoy re-doing them. However, if we're talking about bringing them up to customer expectations of todays X-Plane add ons, there would definitely have to be a (reasonable) price tag attached for current owners. As for the heavy airliner stuff. I can see what you're saying, however, I would never abandon the 742 and 744, regardless of which other developer makes them. I consider competition very healthy and when the competition is tough, it forces the developers to up their game, which leads to the community having more than 1 choice to make, depending on their needs/wants. If a developer wants to make a lite version, then it caters to the lite crowd who just want to get in and fly, without all the planning. In saying all this, and in reading your post, I can say I am a little more swayed to put out a Version 2 of the Sundowner and Duchess, but IF they go ahead, they will have to be side projects to the Citation. For now, the Citation is our top priority. -
Work continues. Jim is still programming and I'm going over 3D mesh and, with Theo no longer with us, I'm continuing texturing also. Definitely getting there.
-
I'll admit to thinking something along the lines of "He obviously hasn't seen what we're working on."
-
You might be surprised. PMDG are the most successful developers in FSX because of their attention to detail in aircraft systems.
-
Any technical issues, you need to post a log.txt The log.txt is in your X Plane root folder and narrows down the crash to what is causing it.
-
Many thanks for your comments. Much appreciated.

It's a big deal because they are revered throughout the FSX community. Some developers feel threatened by them, but the fact is, if they continue to bring people from FSX to X-Plane, it will grow OUR community very quickly. For developers who feel threatened, they have to think about the potential customers PMDG brings. As well as any NEW customers Laminar gets from X-Plane sales, which only serves to motivate Laminar to push forward with X-Plane 11, 12 and however more versions they can come out with. This is a very positive step for X-Plane, any way you look at it.

Sales for the DC-6 might surprise people. Without giving out figures, the DC-3 is selling far better than I thought it would.

This is the first time I've seen this post, so my apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Sometimes we overlook a few forum posts. I'll take a look at your issues and get back to you within the next 24 hours.

Something definitely wrong there. Cockpit should light up with Dome Lights. Try a reinstall.

I'm actually kind of enjoying texturing. Theo's been helping me a little as well, to speed up my learning. I've already run a few screenshots of my work past Cameron and he is more than satisfied. When it comes to scrutinizing add ons, you won't find many people as meticulous as Cameron.

I guess I may as well let you guys know. A few months ago, Theo approached me to let me know he wanted to go to university. I have always been a huge fan of education, and I would never stand in the way of someone wanting to further theirs. However, along with his regular job, this also meant he wouldn't be able to dedicate any time to add on development. So as hard as it was to have him leave, I had to respect his decision. This meant we were stuck without a texturer. Some names were thrown around, but in the end, I decided to start learning how to texture my own 3D mesh. This has not delayed anything because Jim is still coding systems, and he probably won't finish coding before I finish modeling and texturing. I pretty much picked up texturing within the first 2-3 weeks of starting, and we now have a re-textured Fire Tray (Under the glareshield. I had to remodel it from new, close up photos), new gauges (they had a few issues) and I'm also adding a few fixes and new mesh, that will have to be mapped and baked, to the panel. Regarding Theo's decision...it wasn't out of any kind negativity. There were no fights, arguments or disagreements. He just wanted to further his education, and it is a decision I respect. Any news? Yes. It will DEFINITELY be out some time AFTER this coming Monday. Just don't know what day.

C23 Sundowner Problems
Goran_M replied to WIPilot's topic in Beechcraft Sundowner C23 (no longer in use)
Still looking at things and working on some new mesh for an added Garmin. There's been a large change in the LES world (which I'll disclose soon) and I've had to re-organize a few things and overcome a bit of an obstacle. Work is continuing, though. -
This is very unusual as the door opening and closing is completely separate from the aircraft landing. It's a basic, straight forward animation. Seeing as no one else has reported this issue, might I suggest a reinstall.
-
Jiggy is correct. We chose the 430 purely for its size. We did plan on the 530, but things got pretty crowded on the panel very quickly.
-
No. This particular model didn't have an FMC (unless it was retrofitted). It will, however, have the Garmin 430 to make navigation between intersections very easy.
-
Keep experimenting with the flight models per frame. When the aircraft goes nuts in the way you describe, that is usually the culprit.
-
Go into your in sim settings menu. Operations and Warnings Set flight models per frame to 2 or higher. Edit: Btw, I have the same hardware as you. Saitek X52. No problems on my end.

I'm in the process of updating the Duchess and the Sundowner to have the new GPS as well as POSSIBLY some new textures and mesh. Keeping in mind, I have to fit it in with Citation work, so not sure when it will be done. But it shouldn't be long. Most likely about a month. I'll keep people updated in these forums.

C23 Sundowner Problems
Goran_M replied to WIPilot's topic in Beechcraft Sundowner C23 (no longer in use)
I'll give those numbers a try and see what happens. -
Thank you for your comments. Glad you're enjoying it. We do want to do the B variant, it's just a question of when. For now, there are no immediate plans.

C23 Sundowner Problems
Goran_M replied to WIPilot's topic in Beechcraft Sundowner C23 (no longer in use)
I was actually working on this late at night last year, and totally forgot about finishing it the next morning. Thanks for reminding me. I'll take a look and see what I can find. Putting it in my planner. As for the Garmin, I'll consider it.
