"Neutral-Normals-Set" for the Aerosoft/McPhat ATR 72-500 It`s not as simple as it looks. A real nice paintkit (set of "blanks") , has already been made available. I hope I`ll be able to make a layered version shortly. Vital is the fact this paintkit is missing "neutral" normal files. "Neutral " normal-files are normalfiles having a specular alpha without livery-dedicated textures. When making a livery based on this paintkit and implementing this livery in the liveries folder, this livery will use the normal-files for the default "TRIP" livery., resulting in the fact the TRIP-textures will be visible on the aircraft when sunlight strikes the texturised surface. Without a set of "neutral" normal-files its not possible to make a real high quality livery-paint for this plane without the disturbing effect of the speculars in the normals. The picture below shows the excellent livery vakigary made for us , as you can see the default "Trip" disturbs its beauty. I addition to the paintkit I made a customised set of normalfiles. Better said I made no changes to the normal-effect, I edited the specular layer wich is in them. Thanks to Martin Wright who provided me with the tools to handle these rather complicated files.( Convimx and DXTbmp ) Original normal structure and original specular-layers, with all livery-dedicated details removed. Just add this set to each repaint you make. DO NOT add this set to existing McPhat -liveries.( They all have their own normals wich should be kept in place and not be overwritten) Adding these files to liveries wich have no normals in their objects folder corrects the unwanted appearance of the default normals. These files are free to use for all repainters, Do not forget: Credits: Customised normals (speculars) by Leen "Flybike" de Jager -
Not really. I removed the plug-in.

Nice, not nice, I am not sure. I like the effect of the vibrations when starting engines. I like the bumpy ride when starting from grass. ( an effect Cinema Verite already gives us ) BUT In flight the panel only moves up and down, in other words the panel always stays level with my monitor, there is no rotating movement like we have in the Cinema Verite mode. When using this plug in it is not possible to look around in the VC using the top-switch in my stick. OK we can activate Cinema Verite as well , and then we have the full movement of the panel AND my top-switch works again. At first sight all problems look to be solved. Sorry to say the vibrations-effect however is not active anymore then. This vibrations-effect is in fact the only "extra"-effect this plug-in gives us. I think I stick to Cinema-Verite only for now and really hope I am wrong. Leen de Jager

OK.......... thats a different approach. Nevertheless when a developer , has the means/opportunity to make a bizz out of liveries , why should`nt he. Developers of payware are in bizz, so is selling skins. Who says , developers cannot provide payware-quality skins. Once I bought a sailing boat. It came with one set of sails................the shipyard also offered several other sets. I cannot see a difference. Leaving the "aftermarket" ,of your own product to others, is an expensive hobby. And yes Cameron , McPhat-liveries go far beyond a default paintkit, as many other professional or hobby painters like me sometimes do. They make their own paintkit. Wich in fact every senoir-painter can do, for himself or for others.( including developers) I do not say all developers should do their own commercial liveries. BUT if possible it would be profitable for them.

IF the package is not to expensive its not a real problem. Sometimes I buy a music CD because I like SOME of the songs on it.THere is no need to like them all.

This is a nice discussion. I would say, WHY NOT, selling liveries is a normal commercial activity. PSS (FS2002) did and they got crucified for it maybe, that was a long time ago. Years later McPhatstudios started selling liveries for MSFS-airplanes ( in 2006 , I joined the McPhat-team the year before, *) and we ware applauded all over the world , McPhat sold many, many thousands of livery-packages and still do it this very moment. I am not saying an aircraft should only have a handfull ( four or five) default-liveries in the package and I would not fancy to buy the rest.( I have no need to buy liveries.............) BUT , we cannot expect a developer to provide his airplane with all liveries ( hundreds) included. We cannot expect free-painters to produce all these liveries either. (these days its sometimes even complicated to equal the quality or the default-liveries.) For many years default-liveries were not a serious issue for developers and many default liveries were hurting the eye , we`re talking 2013 now and things are completely different now. Nothing wrong with extra liveries on a commercial base , its an extra service to the customer. Under one condition !!!!!! The original plane should always have a reasonable amount of liveries by default , in the first place. The availability of many liveries free or pay always boosts the sale of the model. Several publishers were happy to see my free-paints available for their models, they told me, they saw an increase in sales . Well known publishers welcomed the commercial activities by McPhatstudios and they still do. At first they were reluctant , later they were waiting at the doorstep with their new models. Pro or contra , its not really black and white. Leen .( * I left McPhatstudios a year ago, and started sailing along other shores, after six years it was time to make a change.)

Ahhhh......Yes it takes a while to get it off the ground. For making screenshots in the air you don`t need to take-off. After starting the engines just slew the aircraft to the desired flight-level and position. ( its a functionality in the MAP ) Leen de Jager

Rules for this screen-shot-forum ? Where to be read? Maybe its a good idea to publish the rules for this screen-shot-forum in a pinned post on top of this forum. Leen de jager

Thats a nice funny thing.

Thanks Cameron. Its perfectly clear , my method works , your solution is more prof. and faster. The result is the same and its not in conflict with the eula. I love the 340!! Leen

Question. I would like to have a High-res-install of the Saab 340 AND a Low-res-install of the Saab 340 side by side in my X-Aviation directory. Making paints (non flying) I must use the High-Res install. BUT there are moments when I just want to fly (better said TRY to fly) and then my old rig says , give me low res. In other words : How do I install the Saab twice , low AND high? ps I know, I can save an install and re-install in another resolution and place the saved one besides the new install. Is there a less complicated solution? And if not , give it a thought?

Making a "total-fuselage" on a large 6000 sheet and making a set-up for the paint on this, cutting and pasting this to the fuselage file is an excellent method. It gives you the opportunity to set-up the complete fuselagepaint (excellent aligned) in a short time. Adding the vertical stabiliser to this total-fuselage makes it even more simple to get things aligned perfectly. A total-fuselage to set-up the paint is really fantastic. Making the complete texture on one sheet and cut and paste the result to the individual files is the best and fastest way to make a paint. I admit, a total-fuselage like this AND a fuselage and tail-texture prepared to receive from it is................taking far more time than the average repaint. AND your rig needs a huge memory. BUT: Having a complete landscape over the fuselage and tail................during your coffee-break.......................thats really nice. Leen

That Air Lingus looks swell. I would like to have it in my hangar. Leen

Hi guys. Reproducing a livery what was in real life on a 340B or a Fairchild, on the Saab 340A , OK. At first sight these planes are so alike , I do not have problems with that (nobody has I think.) BUT...... making complete "Imaginary" liveries..............? Do not expect me to do that. Sometimes I add a small logo or sticker wich was not on the real thing just to make it a bit more eye-catching. That`s as far as I like to go. Last decade I made many ( 200+) liveries only three of them were imaginary or better said phantasy. A "House-livery" for the Project Fokker Jetline ,Fokker F28 for FS9 A Robin DR40 "House-livery" for XP-France Simulation and a "House-livery " for the L.E.S. Saab 340A ( all on request by the developers ) Making liveries wich do not exist ( or existed ) in real life is quiet simple , they are always OK , no-one can tell wrong from right. My only problem is,...............I do not like making " phantasy ". Cheers Leen PS: Till today I made a total of ninetheen liveries for the L.E.S. Saab 340A and I really would welcome other painters to pick up the brushes and fill our hangar with beautifull Saab liveries. This airplane is very well paintable and even suitable for unexperienced painters.

Thanks. BUT: It's number 19 of 29 ??????? I made ninetheen paints for the Saab 340 , NOT 29.

Thanks for the compliment Ezer. I did not realise , its just the way the plane was parked by X-Plane. Maybe the marshaller told him to place the plane at this position , due to works on the platform. Who knows , its possible, its even "plausible" Austin would say. PS For give me for saying , I am not a moderator here. ( as I am at several other forums ) When quoting posts , do not quote pictures direct UNDER the original picture , its useless and it has a negative influence on the loading time of the page.
