Are you sure the updater is finishing properly each time you run it, or maybe you keep accidentally deleting the KSEA Demo Area folder without realising? I can't see why Laminar would add things to an existing beta, and the updater hasn't added anything to my beta install since i updated to 10.04b1.

Yep, hat switch for trim, just like real fighters. Hands On Throttle And Stick, or just HOS, as i don't have a separate throttle! Push the hat switch forward to trim the nose down, and hat switch left for aileron trim left, and vice-versa. I use the mouse in the 3D cockpit for looking around, might have to look into Track IR one of these days.

Cool, glad my sort of review helped! I can trim nose down easily, but i struggle with getting my thumb high enough to trim nose up. Like you say, i must have shorter thumbs! Hope it serves you well!

Yes i use one. I got tired of potentiometers wearing out on my old Saitek and Thrustmaster flight sticks, so specifically looked for hall sensors this time. The sensitivity is very good, and paired with a non linear control it makes very precise control a lot easier. A downside for me is that it is not as comfortable as my old Saitek Cyborg, which had a multitude of bits you could alter to get it to fit your hand well. As an example, i have difficulty getting my thumb to reach the hat witch which i always use for trim. Its a very well built unit though, and feels very solid, unlike the old cyborg which is not as sturdy. I'd recommend trying to find one in a local shop to see how it fits your hand, but if precision takes priority over comfort for you its a good choice. Hope that helps!

Hmm, not seeing any difference here. I'll keep playing though, higher fps is always welcome! -
Xplane9/10 In Program Files (x86) file on seperate drive
Tonka replied to larjeet's topic in General Discussion
So do you have to install X-Plane in the C:\ Program Files x96 folder, or can i make a program files x86 folder on another partition, and drop X-Plane in there? Is it the folder name alone that is giving this benefit? Looks interesting though, thanks! -
It was there, but was deleted in one of the updates.

I love to see high detail in scenery, such as your examples above, as long as it is implemented well. The use of LOD groups is perfect for this sort of thing, and the additive LOD coming in v10 will make things even easier for high res scenery object authors.

/Off Topic/ Are you aware of the Zones-Photo page page Simon? Switzerland and Austria are worth getting in my opinion.

X-Plane doesn't care how many different sceneries there are, and it does a decent job of only loading the relevant sceneries. There is a slight hit to load times, but nothing really noticeable. A bigger hit occurs if you have lots of airports and are using the Airport Navigator plugin. Each to their own though!

Sorry Will, couldn't resist! : Yep, 380Gb of Scenery, and a couple of planes. The Jag is getting there, just need to make sure i keep enough space on the hard drive for it as more things are added! ;D

The X4 and X6 are both socket AM3 , so it should work fine. However, it would be worth you flashing to the latest BIOS while you still have the X4 installed, just in case its needed for the X6 to operate correctly. Nova is correct though, its a bit of a sideways upgrade, and the prices of the X6's will only drop further when the next gen chips arrive in a month or two.

XSB Doesn't appear to be installed correctly, and the Python Interface isn't loading. With that fresh, un-modified version of X-Plane that you downloaded, add the XSB plugin, again from a fresh download, making sure to follow all the instructions, and try again. Without any extra CSL's or Plugins. 1 - Find your freshly downloaded X-Plane install, 2 - Find the download page for XSB and donwload it, 3 - Unzip the XSB download and find the instuctions or readme, 4 - Move the XSB plugin and folder to the X-Plane/Resources/Plugins folder, in accordance to the XSB install instructions, 5 - Try again. As for the Python Interface problem, Sandy Barbour will be able to help more, but i think you might have the wrong version installed. If all else fails with XSB, you might have a network problem, or something else i am unaware of, so i won't be able to help further.

Does the log.txt give any errors? Attach it here if you are unsure. So are you saying that it is still crashing, with a fresh copy of X-Plane and just the XSB plugin? Have you added any CSL's to the plugin perhaps? Does X-Plane crash at all if you do not fly online, but still have AI aircraft cruising around?

Try downloading a fresh demo version of X-Plane, then install JUST the XSB/Vatsim plugin and try again.

Nice pics of a beautiful sky Pete. I'd consider strapping wings to a lawnmower to see scenes like that!

So somebody comes forward with useful constructive criticism, which includes useful details, and you mark them as spam and call them a troll?! X-Plane is, or should be, about more than eye candy. Its about fidelity of the flight model, in both the core sim, and the aircraft that we make for it. If this guy is correct, and you are using zero cd on the fuselage, the wrong aerofoils, incorrect tail dihedral and only using two elements of the wing, then i think he has some VERY valid points. I appreciate that sometimes alterations, or tweaks have to be made to make things work in X-Plane, but to get the best out of the sim, if you want to model the performance of a particular aircraft accurately, some basic variables need to be correct to begin with. Variables such as fuselage drag, aerofoil section, and control surface and propeller dimensions should be accurate as far as is possible. There are also ways to get the best out of the sim, by taking advantage of the good parts. Multi wing elements can be included in this, especially with multi engine prop planes, with the engines mounted on the wing. All the extra wing elements could be used to improve the fidelity of the power on and power off stall speeds, as well as the aileron deficiencies fatherjack mentioned. Just think about the effect of all the prop wash on the wing of the b-17. These are public forums, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if it is not what you want to hear. Frankly, your attitude in the two posts i have quoted below, comes across as very rude. If you wanted to seriously model the B-17 and get it as accurate as possible, both in the flight model, and the 3d model, you would taking information like that posted by fatherjack and making notes of it all, and making alterations to your model to put things right, or politely explaining why you have done things the way you have and engaging in conversation with your critics to come to a compromise. Not one person, except perhaps Austin, knows everything about X-Plane, and we can ALL learn from others to make our models better, even the XPFR Team. and Several hundred of people who like what they see, and do not know any better when it comes to flight model accuracy perhaps? Sorry to be the one to point this out to you, but if the errors listed are all correct, it is you and your team who is wrong, not the world. I'd like to thank fatherjack for posting his comments. Its a great shame that Arno has been so closed off and rude about it. I for one like to know how accurate the flightmodel is on an aircraft, as i have no interest in flying pretty, yet aerodynamically fake aircraft. In my opinion, the X-Plane community needs more people to validate the flight-models on real word aircraft simulations. A review of an aircraft that only mentions the objects and textures, and ignores the FM is pretty useless for X-Plane, especially for an aircraft for which the details and specifics are available. - Arno, If you don't have the pilots manual from which fatherjack is making his observations, it might useful for you to get it, if you intend to alter your model to correct the realism issues mentioned above. Lastly, Never judge a book by its cover. Number of downloads on the org is NOT a measure intelligence or accuracy. Just because you haven't seen a model created by somebody else, does not mean they have never done so.

You need ot save as apt.dat, not apt.nav. HTH

Have you perhaps got "Auto-hide the Taskbar" selected in the task bar properties menu?

TurboJet setups and X-Plane do not go well together. If your thrust shown in the sim is less than you have set in planemaker, you probably have one of the FADEC options checked. The main problem with turbojets in the sim is the lack of thrust at higher altitudes. The thrust decay as you climb is too excessive. The only way to get around this is with a plugin, or maybe a Gizmo script.

Awesome! We are not worthy!
